East Fork jumping way above projection as of 9:00 AM Friday . . . looks like 4 feet higher than projected. Crest still at 76.6 for Saturday at 9:00 AM.

My wife has two siblings that live out in Kingwood. Both have been told that they're going to need to evacuate. Here's praying they don't flood again.

I don't remember names, but one would be impacted by Caney Creek and the other lives off Woodland Hills (South of KW Drive).
Was there hail this morning in the north Harris Co/Spring (Creekside area)? Or was it just really loud rain? Would have been between 4-5 am.

Not even close. 40"+ of rain for Harvey vs 15" this week.
Rain acclimated this week in white map. Color was Harvey. Don't get fooled by the numbers. Those are the weather station numbers. The color chart is the rain totals.
I don't see how any rain event can truly be compared to others. Factors are different. The 40" in Kingwood didn't flood us, the back up in Lake Houston and both Forks flooded us. There continue to be large rain totals to the north of us that will flow down through East Fork and Caney Creek.
It's a wait and see for me until someone can accurately explain what the 78' crest means for back of KW neighborhoods.

Is this not different than Harvey in that it's not widespread torrential rain for days but more a result of short isolated rain events causing watersheds the be stressed from upstream rainfall and releasing of water from the lake?

The one of of Woodland Hills, is it Barrington? Or the very south of Trailwood Village? Those are low lying areas. Caney Creek may be Woodstream? If so, the east fork is what they're concerned with. The ones off of Woodland Hills would be concerned with the west fork, which is impacted by Conroe's release.Texas A&M said:

I've been checking the east fork out at East End Park (across from the party beach of Lake Houston) since yesterday...

Still quite a ways to go before it gets into neighborhoods around my area, but where it's expected to crest will be between Imelda and Harvey.
I'm in section 1 of Riverchase and wasn't here during Harvey. When looking at this house, I spoke with the neighbor across the street to see what Harvey did and he told me the 2 at the very end of the cul de sac (which are street level and beyond the cul de sac (if that makes sense) got about a foot of water in them and no other homes on the street were impacted. I'm a few up from those and a good 6' higher (street goes up and I'm quite a bit higher than the street) and he said our houses were fine and didn't even get into the yard. I was here during Imelda and it crested at 73' and water did come up out of East End. I could stand in the cul de sac and see the water flowing in the park, and water would come into the cul de sac for a bit and then go out like a tide. Neither of the 2 at the end got water in their houses nor was it really close to entering (if it were my house, I'd say that was BS). With this, I'm not sure if they will or not.
So, if you're looking at section 1, the houses at the very end of the cul de sacs should be worried. Those beyond should be OK. For reference, I am not in a flood zone.
The math on the map seems to agree with your pictures. East Fork has gone up about 3 feet since 1pm yesterday.
The East Fork map indicates the fastest rise will occur between now and 4pm, then slow and peak at 7-10pm.
The Caney Creek shows it's already crested and is now dropping at Splendora. Who knows.

I don't believe those totals from the white map. The censor a half mile to the west of us read less than 3" of rain. But at my house it was 6" just yesterday. That sensor always seems to read much lower that the actuals that I see.
even if you had 6", its still not even close to what you got during Harvey. that is his point.

It's the same sensors bud. Either way Harvey was exponentially more rain.
But the bulk of Harvey rain was further south than this storm system, correct? This system dumped rain up in north Texas that flowed down this way to fill the lakes. Then we also got a crap ton more rain in 24 hours in areas to the north (Huntsville, Conroe, Livingston, etc) that exacerbated an already full lake. Is that the gist of it?

Harvey dumped rain all over SE Texas at levels that have never been seen before. The areas north saw similar amount of rain over this week, but the areas to the south did not see 30"+ from it. Many saw half as much, if any at all. Harvey runoff was dumping tons of water into an area that was already trying to handle much more rain than where it was coming from. This is tons of water going into an area that saw less rain and lowered lake levels to account for it.
Every storm is different and drainage patterns change. My wife's parents flooded in Kingwood (I can't remember if it was '18 or '19). Before today's rain, one of the houses was projected to be ok, but if they stay they may not be able to leave for a while. The other house I'm not sure of, but they can already see the water less than 75 yards from their house.
Sorry to hear that. They probably flooded in Imedla.
