More money, more money, more money. All these damned ****ers want is more money rather than living within the means of what they already bleed us dry for.

Harris Health did have a $2.5B bond and it passed in 11/2023. They must have just been talking about it, not setting up another one.

And Ellis just said it, if we get hit by a disaster next year, they'll raise taxes another 8%.

It's never enough and Ramsey stated thr additional revenue will be used not for storm mediation. But for general funding.

At this point, just give your pay check to Harris County.

I would hope that the legislature sees the error of their ways and this loophole gets eliminated in the 2025 legislative session. Honestly, they should have known better that this would be exploited by every dim county if possible. To think a loophole this big could be left and not taken advantage of is a rookie level mistake. I can't believe Bettencourt et al didn't fight this (or did they?).

So is the 8% a one-time pop-up and it goes back to the previous rate the next year? Or is the 8% increased rate the "new normal" when determining the rates in 2025?

Using numbers, if the current rate is 10% (for simplicity), the new rate for 2025 will be 18%. When they go to set rates in fall of '25, are they starting back from 10% with anything greater than 3.5% going to the voters, or are they starting from 18% and now anything greater than 21.5% (18 + 3.5) goes to the voters?

Today Court accepted an 8% tax increase. Next Thursday it'll be voted on for adoption. 4-1 vote.

Usually 3.5% effective tax increase is it. The delta between 3 5 to 8% is an extra $89M. No public vote is required by state law when there is a disaster.

So you'd think that $89M would go toward disaster mitigation and improvements. Well you'd be wrong. Of the 89M only 20M is going toward flood prevention.
The 69M remained is going into the general budget.

Meanwhile going to voters is an increase in the Flood Control tax to the tune of an additional 100M. So using the disaster to jack rates but even though it's legal, those funds Aren't required to be spent on flood mitigation.

Democrats in action.

Meanwhile I've already started getting emails from groups "strongly supporting" the new HCFCD maintenance tax line (which is in ADDITION to the 8% tax increase). All the hogs will line up at the trough like good little puppets.

At least Whitmeyer is cutting the crap out of Houston waste. Harris County thinks they can solve all their issues with more taxes.

Can't argue with you on that point. As with all dem-controlled areas though, their solution will always be to take more of your money. It's never a spending issue.

While I appreciate what Whitmire is doing, at the end of the day, he's just going to use it to come back and say "Look how much waste I've cut! Now please support a massive tax increase."

Yup. And if you live in Houston proper you get to pay increased county tax, possible increased flood tax AND increased city tax.

And potentially higher school taxes if the HISD $4.4B bond passes.

They adopted the rate, the vote is next Thursday but it's nothing more than a formality. Hopefully people show up to scream at these crooks.

Don't forget, the Sheriff is asking 50 million for outsourcing inmates to other counties and states. 8% will turn to 12% with the next disaster. Get out now while you can.

I imagine $50M could build a pretty big jail. The sheer incompetence of our "leadership" never ceases to amaze me.

We should build a wall around Colony Ridge and make it a prison camp. Eff em all. If you get arrested in SE Texas, you're going to The 'Ridge. Still shocked not much has come out of that story. Abbott is keeping everyone distracted with the bussing, not wanting to draw anymore attention to his buddy.
