Yea i used to frequent it back in say 2003-2008 or so. Mighty orq was a mainstay on the stage.
There's an Uchi in downtown Denver.digging tunnels said:
I'm gonna reiterate Uchi again. If I'm gonna get a free expensive meal, this is where I'm going. You can get a steak anywhere. But unless you're rolling in some serious dough, Uchi is a place you go maybe once a year or two. If you haven't been there, just sit by the chef's table and let them bring random bites out to you (omakase). Theyll give you like 10 different dishes. Everything is absolutely amazing. There's just something unique and different about this place compared to other sushi restaurants

I've actually wondered why Denver and Colorado food is so mediocre. Even in nice towns like Breckenridge it is not very good. None of the places would survive in Houston.
For some reason Colorado's idea of authentic local cuisine seems to be Chicago style deep dish pizza.
I forget the name of the place but there's a little pizza joint on the way from my sister's in Denver to her in-laws' place in Breck in Idaho Falls that's really damn good. But that's about it.
The place with the super thick crust and they give you honey? Has a mining theme i think? That place is so good.

Anyone used to hang out at the big easy? Years and years ago id catch some blues and zydeco bands there and tie one on. Good times were had.

Is/was that the sorta divey place right off Kirby not far from Rice Village? So many places we used to frequent before the Mrs. and I moved to the burbs to breed that a lot of them sort of blur together now.
-Gallant Knight
-Velvet Melvin
-Marquis
-Alice's Tall Texan
-Volcano (I think that's the name of the place on Bissonet)
-Blanco's
-Lizzard Lounge
-Sammy's on Main
And I can't believe I'm brain-farting but what was the icehouse that had the Texas-shaped table?
Solid list. I would add The Tavern on West Grey and the Social Pub on Washington for my regular hangouts back in the day.Jock 07 said:TarponChaser said:Sea Speed said:

no better place to get your car broken into then get offered drugs at the McDonald's drive through next door.TarponChaser said:Sea Speed said:

My opinion, which is worth what you paid for it, Georgia James is not good/worth the price. There are easily half a dozen options that are better and cheaper.swimmerbabe11 said:
Georgia James should make the list
Bludorn is super trendy right now
If you insist on Sushi, hidden omakase, MF sushi, or Kata Robata
I still somehow have never been to Rainbow Lodge.

Edit: I only went when it was 1/5th, not the stand alone restaurant, but based on that experience I don't intent to go back.
Rainbow Lodge is dated as hell. Food is nothing special. Reminds me of an old hotel restaurant that's seen better days. Really pretty property though.Quote:

Correct. It was Kay's. It's gone, along with the Tall Texan, the knight, Blancos and Sammy's. Marquis is still there but it's not the same since they fixed it up. Volcano is still cool.

When did this happen? What is it now? Was always the coldest beer in town.

RIP. Add Stag's Head, LZ's, Roeder's, and OG West Alabama Ice House.
All bring back great memories...but the Aquarium was my first go to dive bar when I moved to Houston. Loved that place. Complete with the owner's old disabled husband living in the trailer in the back.Quote:
