Weird. Anyway, the tweet I posted is Jeff Lindner confirming that the pic everyone is griping about is old and fake news.

The fact that people had any doubt that's an old picture really hurts my head.

Pandemic narrows it down to March 2020. Hurricane narrows it down to May AT BEST. This picture is not older than March 2020.

EDIT: I stand partially corrected.

Not sure that means much. Could easily be older stock footage used on a more recent broadcast.

She was still letting people in Chinatown restaurants sneeze into her mouth at that point.

You can't believe anything any media outlet says in 2020.

You ain't lying. ESPN tweeted something about some WNBA teams walking off the floor for the anthem (allegedly) and Holly Rowe retweeted it calling them out saying the footage wasnt even aligned with the anthem and was not what hapy.

When they tipped off without the players it was the best basketball in the history of the WNBA.

While I'm sure there are some folks that don't wear masks, they are <1% of the Houston area now. It's a divisive issue on Texags but not in reality

While no one can be certain how Elaine Roberts was infected, her older sister, Sidra Roman, blamed grocery customers who she felt had put her family in danger.

Fabricate an entire article narrative based on a hunch. Journalism!

I can't read the full article due to the paywall. Based on the tweet alone it seems they are using a worst case example to emotionally extort people into compliance. Individual stories are largely irrelevant. People and governments shouldn't be making decisions based on what happens to the unfortunate small percentage of people that end up on a ventilator.

I'm doing the grocery shopping since my wife is pregnant. I've yet to see someone at H-E-B without a mask. Same with regular errands. We were at Home Depot yesterday and saw a guy without a mask. I was in the checkout line so around several other people and literally everybody did a double take. That's how uncommon not wearing a mask is right now.

Agreed...I occasionally see someone wearing it wrong, but I can think of 1 time in the past 2-3 weeks I've seen someone just without a mask on. It's a non-issue now outside of forum 16 on Texags

The article was pretty fair, even with the unnecessary finger wagging to shame masking up.

I agree with what others have said, here locally (Houston) I've seen basically total adoption of face coverings since Abbott made it a thing a month ago. Go a little north to College Station and it's about the same. Go East to Alabama, Mississippi or Florida and it's not even a thing.

Not a thing as in everybody wears them, or as in nobody wears them?

I really don't get out much (1x/day for a 5-10min errand, at most 1x/wk for haircut/grocery, etc...) but I see someone without a mask several times per week. The biggest offenders... Hispanic blue collar workers, old white men & young black men.

When we road tripped to Destin at the end of June there was noticeably nobody wearing them east of Louisiana other than a handful of the restaurant waiters and probably all of the grocery store cashiers.

just my impression, when someone says that "people" are or aren't wearing masks that's generally limited to people who look like them or inhabit places that the normally go in their routine

i.e. their bubble

My bubble is small since I have worked from home for nearly 5 yrs, am slightly introverted and am too lazy to venture out too far from my house most of the time. I'm also a people watcher so I tend to observe everyne around me. For the last several months I basically go to Buccees, HEB, Sports Clips and the odd errand.

Sports Clips are all masked up. They won't let you stay in the store and won't cut your hair with out it.
Buccees is where I see the most number of "maskless" people and there are all walks of life floating around that place. Hell, I've seen 2 cops without masks in there. One right before Lina's order and one since.
HEB are mostly masked but I have seen 2-3 middle aged white dudes.
The odd errand has mostly been food pickup, Academy, etc... all within 2-3 miles of my house. I've seen 2 instances of people not wearing masks. Both women (one probably 70+) and both workers in a food establishment.

For those who think the decline has nothing to do with masks, what do you think is causing hospitalizations to fall off?
