I'm not really sure what the latest argument is here, we've had quite a few large-ish gatherings at our house. People who originally were worried enough about this thing to be "locked down" are tired of it and socializing a lot more.

We aren't nearly back to "normal", even though we should be.

Pay attention to how when the testing goes down the positive rate goes up, and when the testing goes up, the positive rate goes down. We ran short of tests here a couple weeks ago, and they started testing only the symptomatic again as a result. She said "I'm no conspiracy theorist, but in a week they will be hyping the high positivity rate here." It's exactly what happened.

I don't know if the politicians are dumb, looking for something to latch onto, or it's a concerted effort, but the lack of their grasp of statistics and trends is amazing.

well, the new "normal" established around the last week or so, is about 12% positive test rate, in comparison to about 5% for all of May. so there seems to clearly be more people testing positive, as a percentage, even allowing for the two spikes that you point out.

I am happy to hear that, because I honestly did forget the winky. If you didn't get the joke and took offense, you'd be justified and it would be 100% on me.

Interestingly, if this is true, it probably means it flattened a week ago and test results are just catching up.

I have a coworkers who's been waiting all week to confirm he and his wife have it. They have all the classic symptoms and it has been mild, but they are still waiting.

Im curious too. My wife and I both tested on the 28th, but didnt get our positive results until the 3rd. Which day are we counted towards?

Probably all of them, with the way they're counting.

Gov. Abbott: Lack of masks, spike in COVID-19 could lead to 'necessity of closing Texas down'

Quote:

In an interview with CBS19 on Friday, Governor Greg Abbott said a lack of masks and a spike in COVID-19 could, as a last resort, lead to "the necessity of closing Texas down."
He also said he's disappointed some local governments refuse to enforce his recently issued Executive Order.
"It's disappointing," Gov. Abbott said. "And again, I can understand the mindset being a kid who grew up in Longview myself, that this may not be the top priority. A murderer, or a rapist or a robber is far more serious to concentrate on. However, I know this also, and that is if we do not all join together and unite in this one cause for a short period of time, of adopting a mask, what it will lead to the necessity of having to close Texas back down. That should be the last thing that any government wants the last thing that any business owner wants.

So-so count for new cases today and nine deaths reported. Don't worry, they were just old people with health conditions [sarcasm].

Not to mention that none of them actually died in the last 2 weeks.

That's the weirdest thing to me. Worldometers says TX lost 102 yesterday. Did the majority of those actually occur 2 weeks ago and were looking in the past more than we think?

Lost 3000 what? We only 3087 deaths the entire time for COVID

I think that if someone has a stroke, dies, and is tested and has Covid that that would take 2 weeks to report. I think that if someone is in the ICU for 2 weeks with Covid and dies that would be reported as such immediately.

Anyone else notice that the majority of the deaths are Hispanic with black trailing in second and white a distant third?
Is that a possible sign of genetics in play or possibly a tie to socioeconomic status?
ChipFTAC01
How long do you want to ignore this user?

My guess is latter. Positive correlation between socioeconomic status and underlying health conditions and worse insurance/ access to care.

I don't know but there are a lot of other factors to consider. Such as geography, insurance, availability of testing facilities, response to conditions, etc. Hard to see the big picture when we're in the middle of something.

There's also a vitamin D hypothesis. Believe European studies should be out on that soon. Alternative line of thinking is that vitamin D levels are more or less a proxy for an array of other indicators of health.

Assuming other counties are reporting like Harris, I think all deaths are happening 2-8 weeks before they are reported

Wow what is causing that?

I get the vitamin D deficiency but you'd think native Americans would be most acclimated to our climate / sun exposure so doesn't that kinda blow up that theory?
