Because me taking my dog to the park to play fetch at 6AM on Saturday morning is really a big ****ing threat to spread the virus. **** Turner, **** Hidalgo, and frankly **** Abbott right about now too.
You're smart enough to know that these restrictions weren't put in place because of people like you. They're for the dumbasses who refuse to keep their asses at home.

People like you are just collateral damage.

A crazy fact about NYC is that over 200 people a day are dying at home, and most of them aren't even getting tested so they never go on the list as a Covid19 death.

You don't touch it, but a bored ass kid will climb all over it, the fence, the gate, you name it.

And I think, as mentioned above, the fact that there are less and less options to go to means more and more people are going to want to go to the few places still open. How do you socially distance 20 5 year olds running all over a tennis court?

I think they are also trying to emphasize that "stay home" means "STAY HOME".

It doesn't mean take your kids to the park (where there might be other kids) or let them play in the driveway/cul de sac with other kids, etc.

It hasn't come up in this thread, but in the Coronavirus forum, there was a lively discussion a while back along the lines of "Is it ok if my kids play with my neighbor's kids in the cul de sac? I tell them to stay away from each other, but they don't listen, and they are just kids trying to have fun. We can't keep them cooped up forever."

Can someone explain locking the tennis courts as has been done in my (and surrounding) subdivisions? I'd like to understand the risk vectors.
The risk is 911 having to deal with Karen calling multiple times to report Sharon and Tonya playing a match between rounds of mimosas.

I think this is the real reason. Tennis poses zero actual risk.
unless it's two grown men playing, then tremendous risk.

Not entirely. Pretty sure one player could cause the virus to get on the ball, then the other player gets it on their hands when they touch the ball. And when you're out sweating and exerting yourself, there is a lot of touching your face and breathing hard (which disperses droplets everywhere).

I'm not saying the risk is high, but it's not zero, either. No sense in hyperbole either way.

And right now the govt thinks their job is to protect us from ourselves.

And I have no doubt some people are stupid/reckless enough for that to be necessary (see the 99 idiots in Cypress who went to church on Sunday).

Get bent. I've been following the rules for four ****ing weeks now basically. I want to know why They think locking the park that is basically just wide open grassy area at 12th and Yale is going to change one ****ing thing about community spread. They've already roped off the playground, but now the fields, wide open ****ing fields, are a *********problem.

Yeah, I'll continue to sneak onto some courts with my son that we found 10+ miles from home. Because we, you know, live with each other. And we can assess the risks for ourselves (and they are ZERO)

It is literally insane. People have lost their ****ing minds.

The more the authorities overreact and shut down stuff that poses zero risk, the faster people will say THE HELL WITH IT and stop observing even common sense practices.

They're just worried about big crowds congregating for a weekend for parties and stuff, which is why it's only for this weekend. You're not the subject of their ire.

You know what Mezcuns do on Easter?

Well they go to the park and take lawn chairs, pinatas, ice chests, grills, volley ball nets, soccer goals, etc and have big parties.

That's why. It's not hard to understand.

So ticket them and tell them to disperse!! Not close down and lockout wide open ****ing fields to individuals.

What's next? Close the trails because you may come within 6ft of someone walking?
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Well if the trails are in parks they're already closed.

Look it sucks but again what's the big deal with just avoiding the parks for one weekend?

People are morons and picking and choosing what is closed just isn't an option. Just close it all that way no one can claim they didn't know.

Stay home, grill out on the patio, drink some cold ones, and make the best of it.

The big deal is I already work from home and have for over seven years now when I'm not traveling. Some of y'all might think this whole work from home thing is cool and neat for this six weeks or whatever, but you have no idea how much the weekends, and getting out to the park to let my dog loose and have fun, and social interactions mean to people that already do it full-time. So forgive me if I'm pissed off that the city is too ****ing lazy and worthless to do their job of enforcing their whole social interaction **** on the offenders and not blanket **** everyone else over.

Unfortunately during a declared State of Emergency, the government does not concern itself with how citizens can go out and enjoy themselves and blow off steam. Everything is about damage control.

Hence they should do their jobs and go after the offenders. Not blanket directives that impede on others abilities to move around freely while maintaining their social distancing dog and pony show.

But what incentive do they have to not just shut it all down? What about keeping them open should be a concern to a government in a state of emergency?

I think if they are just doing it for the weekend, which seems to be the case, we should consider ourselves lucky.

From Sly, himself

Quote:

"I know the Easter weekend is traditionally a time when families flood our parks for barbecues and Easter egg hunts. This year, I am asking everyone to stay at home and continue social distancing," Mayor Sylvester Turner said. "I desired to keep city parks open for the holiday, but we had 615 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, along with two additional deaths. We must do everything possible and work together to blunt the progression of COVID-19."

City parks and trails will reopen on Monday, April 13th at sunrise. However, all park playgrounds, basketball courts, exercise equipment, skateparks, water playgrounds, as well as City-owned golf courses, driving ranges, the Memorial Park Tennis Center, Lee LeClear Tennis Center, and the Homer Ford Tennis Center at MacGregor Park will remain closed until further notice. Neighborhood tennis centers will reopen on Monday morning. The Parks Department's Curbside Meal Distribution program will still take place on Friday at its regular time of 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 49 community centers.

Their incentive is ticket people for the bull**** they normally do to try to get some revenue since their speed trap bull**** won't bring on any for awhile.

But, it's not supposed to be an incentive for the government. They serve the people.

Dude give it a break, we get it that you are pissy about missing quality time with your dog.

The comment about big families is spot on. And yes I'd like to see them ticketed as well, but that requires additional police to monitor the parks and then break spacing to write tickets etc. It's one weekend and it makes sense in the long run, no telling how many people have gotten sick from the park but people would this weekend as idiot families break rules because they don't think they have to follow them

Again. State of emergency. Meeting ticket quotas and making budgets is not a concern right now. The primary concern, as directed by the state of emergency is to prevent and mitigate spread of the virus. And they are just doing it for 1 holiday weekend.

As much as I dislike Turner, he has been one of the few mayors of a megacity to not go full lock down.

No. I'm sick of the ****ing government wielding bull**** power and authority that they think they have.

Truly amazing home many people that claim to be conservatives around TexAgs are so willing to just sit back and not voice opposition to governments and police overreach.

If the Fed was closing the parks, I would be there screaming with you.

But it's the city government, and city parks.

Sorry, but they do have that power.
