How long do you want to ignore this user?
I thought about lying and saying I was window shopping at houses on HAR (which I do fairly often)
but honestly, I was watching a Houston Ballet video where they are having the soloists do videos..I was hoping to actually watch some dancing, but... it was just a dude talking about how stir crazy he was so far. I got the alert, lost interest, and came back to Texags.

Yep. I went out to just drive around and get some fresh air. *******s
They have been, but I doubt this alert has anything to do with that.

Have you not seen the dozens of maps out there showing which states, counties, etc. seem to be staying put the most?

I was out in Katy and looking back I got it within seconds of crossing the Fort Bend Co to Harris Co boundary. Can't say it doesn't make me a bit suspicious...but in reality I've expected govt to have been tracking cell phones for 20+ years.

Did anyone else get an amber alert style message on their phone?

I was literally just looking at the numbers reporting and noticing that Harris hadn't updated their confirmed cases yet today (still showing 189) when this popped up on my phone.

Is your phone wallpaper taken from you sitting on your crapper?????

Last I heard it was 2 locations for testing and each have 250 tests per day.
They did not say how many days that would last. They did say that when they ran out, they would have to wait for federal gov to distribute more.
Are they still sending them to the CDC, or can they run them locally? And what is the turnaround time on this? Still a few days?

Keep it on for tornado warnings. I thought I had turned off everything but weather alerts, but I guess a 3 day late message was important enough to go out over the weather system too.

You probably have emergency alerts disabled on your phone.

I didn't get it since I turned off all alerts. To test, I turned on the "state and local" alerts and received the one about coronavirus.

KHOU has a headline about a 14 day quarantine for anyone coming into TX from NOLA or NYC. But when I click the headline, there is no additional/new info after 1:58 pm.

What's the rest of the story?

From Gov. Abbot Press Conference.

In my opinion those rules should be in place indefinitely virus or not.

Abbott declared that anyone traveling from those parts is instructed to 14 day self-quarantine and DPS will be checking up on them for compliance

I can kind of envision how they might do this for people who fly in, but did they at all address people who drive in? Particularly from NOLA?

Edited for people who DRIVE in.

This is from the Harris press conference from .. Tuesday? I think, so forgive me if my information is outdated.
They were still sending them to the CDC and the turnaround was 2-4 days.

From KHOU

By the numbers:

- Texas is conducting between 2,000 and 5,000 coronavirus testing on a weekly basis.

- 1,425 positive coronavirus cases confirmed as of March 26, but Abbott said number will increase.

- 21,424 tests done in the state.

- 18 deaths due to coronavirus complications.

- Approximately 90 counties in Texas has identified coronavirus cases.

- 100 patients currently in hospital due to coronavirus.

- Abbott said more than 3,000 beds available to coronavirus patients if needed

Give it a ****ing rest dude. we get it that you don't think this is a big deal, but it is what it is
TXTransplant
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Because, testing, at most, 0.017% of the population of TX each week is telling us how many people are actually infected, right?

At that rate, it will take us between 5740 and 14350 weeks to get everyone tested.

Would you rather wait and shut everything down when those 3,000 beds are full? Because they will be if we don't stay home.

My doctor told me today that they're still requiring fever, cough, AND contact with someone who had it to get a test. She said she has several pts that she suspects may have minor case but no known contact, and the county / UTMB won't approve them to get tested.

She also said she has an older pt in the hospital.

Yep. I'm from MS. Which has just under 3 million people in the entire state and 485 reported cases.

The greater Houston area has a population of almost 7 million and only has 420 reported cases.

We aren't testing enough.

I mean, it makes sense why they are being strict.

It looks like based on the numbers (1,425 positives/ 21,424 test taking), that only 6% of people being tested are positive. That seems really low, and I think that's actually gone down (I seem to remember it being around 10% a week or so ago).

But even if we use the national average, I believe it's right at 15% positive for all tested, meaning 85% showed at least the symptoms you listed, but still didn't test positive.

That would mean a lot of doctors may suspect someone has it, but in reality it's a cold, flu, other.

So when they have clear backlogs on producing and reviewing tests, they are probably focused on increasing the ratio of positive tests by keying in on what the think are the real symptoms.

Everything I've heard or read about the testing sites is you have to meet the following criteria:

Quote:

COVID-19
Criteria for COVID-19 testing:

Patients must have symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath) and/or have one of the following risk factors:

Older than 65 years of age
Have serious underlying health conditions (heart disease, diabetes, lung disease/asthma, HIV, immunocompromised)
Healthcare workers with suspected exposure

This is what was posted about the Fort Bend County testing site, but I remember hearing the same thing about the Harris Co drive through sites.

Seems like they are only testing people who have symptoms AND are over 65, have pre-existing conditions, or are healthcare workers with suspected exposure. That's not exactly a broad sampling of the population.

I don't believe that's the requirement for Harris County.

I can't find the article right now, but I think they were reporting stats out from the free drive thru testing and it was mostly women under 65 who got testing the first day or 2.
