It was already an informal lottery process anyway. My coworkers who have gotten the vaccine through Harris Co have said you literally have to stay on the website all day and keep clicking until an appt comes up. One said he thought the only reason he got in was because the website was malfunctioning, and he happened to click right as it came back up.

Getting the vaccine right now is mostly luck, and the process doesn't really favor the demographic who need it most (65+). How many people that age and older sit at a computer all day?

I'd volunteer for jury duty in that case, if I could.

My apologies I completely misread something that wasn't there. I interpreted your comment about volunteering for jury duty as people going to jury duty getting to the front of the vaccination queue which is a fact that isn't posited anywhere.

It is. If you click "none" on the occupation question, there's then a new drop down were you pick your specific field.

That's what initially stopped me from getting to the registration page.

But then the next page won't let you select anything in the drop down boxes - there's nothing there.

Unfortunately the site isn't working. It doesn't allow you to proceed to registration after acknowledging the privacy statement.

I let it sit there for about 5 minutes then it moved to the next page

They initially rolled out a website where you could actually make an appointment. But, there were so few doses available that you pretty much had to sit at your computer all day and keep refreshing until one came up. Plus, the website kept crashing/having technical difficulties. So, they decided that wasn't fair.

This "waiting list" is what they've rolled out to make it more "fair". No one can schedule an appt directly. You put your info in, it gets prioritized based on age, occupation, and (maybe) the health questions they ask. That puts you on a list that is supposedly randomized and Harris Co Public Health will contact you when your name comes up.

FWIW, you can get on the waiting list right now even if you don't qualify under 1A or 1B status. Supposedly when more categories are approved for vaccination, then they will include you in the selection process.

However, they have said that when/how early you get on the wait list does not impact when you are selected. It's all supposed to be random, after they prioritize for occupation, age, and pre-existing conditions. Website doesn't say which of those they give most/least priority to.

I was able to vaccinated yesterday. My wife had an appointment but I did not and showed up with her and was able to get one. There was 0 line and took all of 25 minutes including waiting 15 minutes post injection

I'm not sure this is legal. You'd better take this post down. We can't have vaccination places thinking for themselves and wasting doses on people without appointments.
