That would fit right in in an Aggie football suite for sure! Agreed that the gold square makes the maroon face and bezel pop, pretty sweet. Thanks for letting us live vicariously through you my friend

Yeah I'm going to stay away. Would like to find a cool Maroon watch though. There was talk for some time of a Sinn group buy in Maroon, I wonder whatever happened to that

Is it bad that I get more excitement from this thread than the Tine weather cartel girl thread these days?

No kidding. That one isn't even on my watch list anymore but I'm sure to check this one every time there's an update.

Would a Rolex Precision be a decent buy for < $3k? Is their price point and demand suppressed by the manual wind movement?

Solid purchase.

It's like Dr. Manning in the Poultry Science department always said.

next it is time to upgrade that bottle. would you care to buy a William Larue Weller, Bookers Rye or John E Fitzgerald 20 year?

Ha, do notice that this is the bottle NOT in the whiskey cabinet, but used as decoration on a book shelf…

Though my taste in whiskey certainly isn't high class - favorites being Wild Turkey 101 and Four Roses Single Barrel.

I hate people today.

William LaRue Weller was our go to for years and years in case quantities. If I remember correctly, it was even free for a while. The distillery master made it as his own project and gave it as gifts to reward loyal customers while it was waiting to come to age. That's why it was hand labeled and was always a different proof. My wife made candles and table decorations out of the pretty bottles.

We used to buy copious amounts of Weller products as Weller was the cook-off team house spirit. Along the way it got more and more popular as it came of age. It was still relatively inexpensive, for what it was. I think at the end it got up to $90 a bottle and we stopped buying cases because there were cheaper, yet solid options for a 1/3 the price.

Then the Bourbon craze hit and they realized what they had and it became what it is. None of the stuff I used to drink is really available anymore. It's ridiculously expensive and hoarded. I've switched to Irish Whisky at this point and now that I've found a couple bottles I like, I figure it's just a matter of time until the same thing happens with Irish and I'm searching for something else. The brand I like was just featured on the special addition cover of Irish Whisky of Whisky advocate.

So now good bourbon is essentially the same as good watches for me. I know what I like, but my chances to partake are mostly gone as they're more and more exclusive.

Got the BR diver in this morning. The bronze looks really cool and I'm interested in seeing how it patinas. Very unique looking piece and will get a lot of wear.

I'm in a similar situation. I think Irish whiskies are the best value out there in the whiskey world.

Love the offerings from Redbreast and Green Spot.

I dont even drink anymore but the fun in chasing good bourbon was killed for me in the end. When standard Buffalo trace was being locked up and sold on a 1 bottle basis, it has gone too far. I have q closet full of good stuff that I was working my way through when I gave it up, now it just sits there. I sell q bottle here and there to fund other things I like, like my rolex or a cowan print I just bought.

A lot of the bourbon folks I know switched to rum but that is also crazy now. I really liked armagnac there at the end.

Rum from a particular distillery in Barbados is where I went a few years ago once bourbon went nuts.

And this is how I know it's just a matter of time before Irish Whisky goes the way of Keyser Söze as well. Those are my two go to brands. God help me if the spots disappear. The good Redbreast is already too damn expensive.

To put this into perspective for watch guys not into bourbon. I was getting numbers of Daytona quality bottles of booze for free or extremely cheap before the world caught on. And I had no idea they'd be worth the current prices they are. Or I could have financed my kids college education and my retirement by just storing and selling them.

Such is life.
