just a followup on this, a few emails later it sounds like they are going to make it right by sending me a replacement and ordering a pickup for the damaged watch, so far Spinnaker seems to be stand-up company.

My newest edition! I have always had an affinity for the Imega Railmaster. Obviously, because I love College Station, but also because I now live in Tomball across from the railroad track. The town has a small train museum and models in the downtown area.

The watch looks great, but you know the Railmaster has nothing to do with trains, right?

youre thinking of the Omega Rapemaster. Q branch equipped his with a chloroform dispenser and a really big rug for sweeping stuff under.

Oh and I'm not crazy by the way:

" When the Railmaster debuted in 1957, it was the latest expression of a longstanding relationship between Omega and the railroads. Omega first delivered pocke****ches to railroad companies in 1895. The Railmaster was the first wristwatch designed specifically for railroad employees, scientists, electricians and technicians who worked in close proximity to strong electric currents. Early Railmaster watches were equipped with a special double case that could protect the movement against the adverse effects of electrical fields up to an intensity of 1,000 gauss."

" This "lollipop" seconds hand with its luminous disk alludes to the way the seconds are shown on the clocks in Swiss railway stations and underscores the Railmaster's affiliation with railroading."

I didn't know magnetic fields were a problem for railroads. Thanks for sharing.

Bought an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 9 or 10 years ago. It's been my daily wear watch ever since. Crown broke last year and had it replaced. Saw some moisture inside this past weekend so brought it into a respected Houston watch shop and the tube is broken. Fortunately no moisture on the internals.

They've recommended replacing gasket, tube, reverser, ball bearing axle, co-axial wheel all for $500.

Plus a complete service to the movement for $550.

That's over $1k maintenance on a watch that's worth, how much these days? For you watch gurus is this worth it? Sell it? Shop around for a better deal on the repair?

TIA

A PO is still worth a $3-4000, even at 10 years old. If I were you, I'd send it to Omega for the service/repairs that way you know it's done right. One of my friend's sent his SMP to a local guy in Dallas to have a regular maintenance done and it took the guy months and he's had to send it back a couple of times already. He tried to save a few hundred and it hasn't been worth the headache. Lucky for him, he also has a PO and a Rolex, so he's OK, but it's a hassle.

This is important...if you have never had it serviced, things are going to fail. A luxury watch is a machine.

Watch has never been serviced.

The technician is Omega certified. He might even be sending to Omega. They quoted 6-8 week turnaround.

I would be glad to help you out if interested. I think it's probably worth it to service, but you probably won't get 3-4K for it. If interested, I can find you newer model planet oceans for that price range or anything for that matter.

Thanks for the offer. Not really considering selling it. Primarily wanted some more educated feedback on the repair and maintenance workscope I was quoted. I really do love the watch and am already missing the weight on my wrist. Will give them the go ahead to proceed.

No worries. I think you will be much happier getting it fixed and wearing it more as it probably has sentimental value.

Interesting. Am I the only one that is tired of the faux patina look on many of the heritage or reissues these days?

Not a fan of a drive watch on a mess or nato strap. Also not a fan of a dive watch worn with a tux.

I don't know if they still do it, but Suitsupply used to offer a tux package at a reasonable price.

I didnt read the article I just looked at the watch but I dont see amy patina on that watch, faux or not, at all.
that orange color of the lume is generally an indicator of faux patina.

Quote:

In addition to its use of titanium, the watch's sapphire dome has been slightly slimmed and the dial, which neatly picks up on the trend for "antiqued" timepieces with its "tropical" patina effect, is made from aluminium with a matching bezel in the same material.
