Does anyone discount new Rolexes? Thinking about going to Deutsch and Deutsch to look at models. Still debating between Datejust, Explorer and Airking.

You shouldn't have a problem getting a small discount on any of these models.

Stainless sport models are seeing a premium right now on the gray market and I wouldn't think you would get a discount on those models. You should be good.

This. The DJ may be a challenge depending on the model (the 41). A Sub, GMT, or Daytona...you'd essentially be Lloyd Christmas getting the news from Mary.

Hello all,

Looking for a view from the experts on this forum regarding the purchase of a Rolex DateJust 41. This will definitely be the first watch purchase at this price point, so I want to make sure that I cover all of my bases before taking the plunge and making the investment.

After viewing the available choices on Rolex's website, I have managed to pick out model 126334 as my choice and prepared to go with it, but I would prefer not to pay list price.

For those of you have bought brand new, does every retail store (i.e. Rolex Store or other authorized dealer) sell at list or do some sell at a decent percentage below list? If the latter, is there a recommended store in town where you can find the best rates on the DateJust watches?

If I can save a decent amount of money, I don't mind purchasing this model or a similar one pre-owned if I can ensure that it comes with any certificates showing authenticity. Have any of you had luck buying a DateJust at any of the certified Pre-Owned stores in town (Bob's Watches, Hal Martin's, etc.)? If so, is there one that you would recommend over another?

Have any of you purchased a Rolex in Singapore? If so, can you traditionally find them cheaper there than in the US? Will be traveling there next week, so would appreciate any insight to understand if it is better to purchase here vs. overseas.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to provide insight.

The wife wouldn't let me get the Seamaster I wanted so I bought this blue Christopher Ward Trident Pro600 instead. Automatic, ceramic bezel, blue wave face. VERY happy with this purchase. Same with the Aviator I previously bought. Would recommend CW to anyone that wants a high quality watch at a reasonable price.

I can't speak to specifics, but used Rolex watches are probably closer to new prices than you expect. As far as authorized dealers go, you'll probably be paying full price. Also, just so you know, watches have reference numbers, not model numbers. Good luck on your search! Hope you find one you're happy with.

I don't think so. I think prices are set in Swiss francs and just adjusted for currency. You should still buy something while you're there.

does anyone know if Swiss watches are cheaper in Switzerland? Im taking a vacation there this summer.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllll no. Wife and I were in Switzerland last month and everything is more expensive. $50 for a basic fastfood lunch.

One of my buddies who lives in Zurich buys his watches when he travels.

Oh yeah. Very expensive. You can get reasonably priced stuff at Coop (a grocery store chain), which is where we normally grabbed a sandwich and chips while we were out. Usually ran about $20 for that. If you go to a restaurant, expect to spend at least $50. Dinner? $100 easily.

The problem with buying a new Datejust is finding the exact one you want at an AD. I've never bought from an AD but, from what I've read, there can be discounts had on these models depending on their demand, of course.

I wouldn't expect more than a 10% discount, if any, on a stainless model with a desirable dial. You should be able to get at least 10%, maybe more, on a two-tone.

I'm a big proponent of the gray market and would encourage you to enlist a watch broker (davidsw, takuya, ocrolexguy, etc.) to find the watch you want and let them sell it to you. You'll save quite a bit on a used DJ as they don't hold their value as much as the sport models.

Good luck.

I'm considering purchasing a Rolex Submariner Date as a birthday gift for myself. I'd like to purchase new rather than used. I'm in the Dallas area. I know this is a Houston thread, but any recommendations on where to shop in the Metroplex? Worth driving down to Houston to shop? And with a brand like Rolex, should I expect to pay retail (website states $8,550 as MSRP) or will people negotiate?

Thanks

You're probably not going to get a discount on that model. No need to drive to Houston unless someone has it here.

Even the gray dealers are selling them for a premium right now.

I had a friend buy from David three weeks ago and he paid $8250 for a used one.

Unfortunately, Subs are in high demand, and if you do find one at an AD without a waiting list, they won't move off of the price.

Now, if you're going to Vegas soon, you will probably find one there, and you'll save the tax ID you have them mail it to your house.

Wow, I had no idea they were that difficult to find at the moment. Any idea what the wait may be? I plan to shop tomorrow and will report back.

I've read where Rolex said they're going to limiting their supply of SS sport models going forward. I'm not sure of the validity of that claim, but it seems to be true.

I'd buy used and have it mailed to me overnight if I was in your shoes. I wouldn't wait for an AD to get one in and charge me tax on the purchase.

Not sure what the wait is. I've heard it's a couple of months, but I haven't verified that, so take it with a grain of salt. If you visit some ADs around your area, you'll have a good idea on what the wait is and whether or not you're willing to wait that long.

As the poster above me said, look in the used or gray market. Go to rolexforum.com and take a look at what they have in the classifieds. That's where I bought my NIB 16610, which was exactly what I wanted. Be patient and begin doing your research on the sellers. You'll find probably 10 sellers that you would feel comfortable working with, and after you have that list, you'll start to focus on the piece that you want. Often, NIB subs (plastics still on) come up for sale that are about what you'd pay at an AD, but you won't have tax or anything like that. Once you see what you want from a seller you trust, reach out and begin negotiating.

I will say this, it's nerve-racking when you commit to purchase a piece and go to the bank to wire the money. There's a few hours from when they confirm they have the money until you get the tracking number where you're positive you got played. But once you get that tracking number, you feel more comfortable and it all goes away the next day when you open the box. If you're like me, you can take it to an AD and they'll pop the back to give you the guarantee you didn't buy a really good knockoff.

Also, you hear how small the classic car community is. Well, the watch community is smaller than that, and any seller selling fake pieces or is not representing pieces accurately is usually run off pretty quick and the mods on the boards are able to sniff out cons before they have a chance to sell it. When you find a good seller with a good history, you can buy with confidence. You're in the DFW area, and I know there's a couple of sellers on TRF that are in the Metroplex as well, so a FTF meeting can be arranged if you'd like.

I've purchased four in the Metroplex: 2 at Eiseman's at Northpark and 2 at Bachendorf's at the Galleria. I had great experiences at both places, but the manager of the Rolex section at Bachendorf's (I forgot his name, but can find it) was the most generous on giving a discount.
