Oh yeah. If you've been around a strong magnetic field or set your watch on one, it could become magnetized, which would cause it to run fast or slow.

I have a Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Chronograph. Only two places in town that can service it at $650. I'll be selling it if anyone is interested after the maintenance is performed. The watch retails for about $3500. I have the original box and paperwork. Looking for $1800.

After about 3 months, I finally got old circa 1963 automatic back from Mr. K. Went from $250 quote for guy in Copperfield, $125 from Memorial Watch Repair, then $60 and Mr. K. Couple times I went by to check on progress he couldn't find it.

Kinda crazy but guess it was worth it. Glad I wasn't taking pills based on that watch's time,...

yeah, don't go to Mr. K if you're in a hurry. I've had a couple frustrating trips back there myself. He needs an assistant but I can't imagine working for that guy.

Bumping this thread for a question...

...anybody have any thoughts or experience with a website selling both new and certified pre-owned watches called Crown & Caliber? I keep getting ads from them and they have what look to be some solid deals but I'm hesitant to pull the trigger without seeing & holding the watches myself.

If you want a used Seamaster the Watches for Sale board is great on https://omegaforums.net/

Definitely check out WatchRecon; it will include all of DavidSw's posts as well as all of the ads on the reputable watch sales boards. Just make sure you vet the seller as anyone can post on the watch sales boards. Most have several references and if you pay with paypal you should be covered.

Joma is okay, but you don't get any factory support if you buy from them; just fyi.

And personal tastes vary but that bright stitching is part of what I like. Don't get me wrong, neither would be daily wear or go with a suit. I just really dig them.

I like the Panerai America's Cup, too. Would be a great casual watch.

I think I am going to put a new strap on my Vintage Rolex. Currently has a brown ostrich, but I really want black gator.

Also, it has the old acrylic crystal. Does anyone know if you can replace that with a sapphire crystal?
