In those Heuer forums, it says he mostly wore a Rolex if anything.

Apparently never really wore that one

Quote:

According to his son, once he received the Patek Philippe, he discreetly put it in his pocket and got back to the business of racing. Shelby wasn't into racing for the riches and accolades. He was only in it to win.

The ref. 1463 itself is extraordinarily well preserved. Shelby, not being the most materialistic person, rarely if ever wore the watch, and later gifted it to his teenage son Pat.

In the end, I just like the look of that Calibre. Don't have a Panda in my collection.

I had an early 70s era Heuer Autavia. Awesome watch, but beware - depending on the movement, it might be hard to find people willing to work on them and finding parts if something goes wrong can be a problem

upon further research, it sound like the original is like 36mm, so that would be an issue.

The re-issue from the early 2000's looks pretty cool though. Not the same as vintage but I don't want something that small.

The Autavia is very sharp too. Ken Mile's wears that one in the movie.

The Autavia is 42m. Check it out if you want a piece of history. As I said though, beware

I can help unless you can buy at an AD. If you can I'd go that route.

... and water is wet. This has been going on for years. In fact, I would say that just about all of them have a source they sell to on the grey market.

On one hand the entire process is rigged against the average joe, but yet on the other hand this "scheme" really maintains and increases the value of the watches we already have.

I like that band.

Did you put it on? or did you buy it like that?

reminds me of the Todd Snyder Timex Mods. I think they came from about the same era.

These are a little less "busy", but similar look:

Has anyone seen the prices of the gold Daytona with the green dial? They are selling for about $65k (almost $30,000 over retail)

Blue one not as popular for some reason and you can't even get it any more!

Been a while since I've worn the X-33 so I thought I'd share. It's kind of the weird stepchild of the Speedmaster series but that's probably why I love it.

I really like some of the Todd Snyder Timex reissues. Probably worth half the list price once you add it to the cart, but really sharp designs.
Wow, i have just decided to think about getting back into the luxury watch market over the next couple of years. I have had two Rolex over the years, a 70's era Datejust that is sitting at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, and a Submariner I sold 10 years ago or so. I just havent been big on watches lately, but am really looking to get a Yachtmaster when the day finally comes.

That said, i just think its hilarious i have read this entire thread over the last couple of days, and while its generated serious watch envy, on the last page and the last few days, look at what watch shows up? The $125 Timex special I have been sporting for the last few years. its actually been a great watch, well worth the VERY low price tag. Its been in deer carcasses, wading for trout, and everything in between. I have an Eco-drive I wear occassionally, but this Timex gets 99% of my time.

Nice! And good taste in bands . You know, it's funny I get more comments and such with that cheap Timex than anytime with a Rolex over years of wearing them.

I have a Tag Carrera that has stopped working, second hand "ticks" but stays in place, y'all have any recommendations for repair shops in town? Thanks

Where are y'all taking your watches to get them serviced around town? I have a Rolex Submariner Datejust that the bezel is twisting freely both way.

So I know he meant Sub Date, but that's still funny. Particularly on this thread.

I would suggest Mr K but I think he's still got a watch I dropped off during the Obama Administration.

******* keeps telling me the parts haven't come in.

No need for a thumbs down. There are a lot of watch nerds on this thread, so it's refreshing to have someone who just has a nice watch that's just looking to it fixed.
