Ask Councilman Yancy how his request for info on the Macy's/Jim Lewis change went.

Here's a tip: city employees do not fear the council.

Another day, another instance of an LEO misusing Flock data.

But I'm sure it could not happen here.

Question for people smarter than me....with all the cities seemingly weekly dropping Flock, and the daily abuse news stories, how long before the State axes them like they did red light cams?

That seems like a logical outcome, or at least campaigning on the issue. Or is there a political reason not to do that yet?

I understand the conflict of City Councils not wanting to go against their Police force, but it seems that conflict goes away if the State takes a stand

No possible way. Our guys are pure as the driven snow and would never abuse. All of them. Even the ones we haven't hired yet.

As of yesterday to my knowledge 2 state reps are "pre" filing bills in Texas. As well as 2 US congressman are working on legislation and a U.S. senator is opening an investigation.

Desantis being the usual leader. Abbott almost always takes note of what he's saying.

Nobody is perfect. I have watched CSPD hold officers accountable, and they offer a level of transparency most departments don't. You raised examples I don't dismiss, I also don't have all the facts, so I'm not going to pass judgment from the outside.

I'm talking about the Flock systems. If I catch heat for saying I support and trust CSPD, so be it. That is not a position I will waver on. Everyone should be held accountable. If something happened while I was on council, I would demand that accountability.

You may support unequivocally, but the voters you are hoping to win over do not.

Accountable? How would anybody know? If nobody checks the police but themselves - there is no accountability.

So would you vote to cancel the contract and remove them on your first day of council? Simply yes or no will suffice.
Valen
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't do yes or no's - nothing in this world is that simple.

I'd want to read what the repercussions of breaking the contract were. If it is mitigated and there is a legal plausible way to break the contract then it's a yes end the contract.

Last thing I'd want it to put a target on the back of the city in terms of a lawsuit from flock and waste tax payer dollars.

If I was on council I would not renew the contract. If there was a way to cancel it without repercussions, I'd cancel it.

Sometimes things ARE that simple. Many people, myself included, are tired of people seeking office who cannot answer a yes or no question and refuse to vote for them.
Valen
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If you had asked me whether I like cheese on my hamburger, the answer would have been a simple yes.

I was raised to believe that a man of his word is the only kind of man worth being. So if I am going to put a public comment or a public answer in writing, it will include the context and caveats that belong with it.

I understand you want a yes or no answer. But I value trust, integrity, and honesty. I will not give a bare yes or no only to be criticized later because my definition of "yes" and yours are different. Your tax dollars matter to me. I will not gamble with them by giving a simple answer to a question that is not simple.

Here is an accountability question for you. And I would think a yes or no answer would be simple.
If elected would you support replacing the city manager?

I'm going to respectfully disagree here. I think anyone should be given an opportunity to answer a question with more than a simple yes or no, PROVIDED that they are not just deflecting and grandstanding.

This gives me "senate hearing" vibes where the senator insists on a yes or no question when clearly answering either way would not provide a complete answer.

Let the man talk.

And to be fair, one of the other candidates for the same city council position was asked similar questions a few days ago on here and didn't respond.

Is that not standard procedure for typical politicians?
I was naive hoping this time around we might have a chance for change.
Someone who cannot or will not answer a simple question will not get my vote.
Valen
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm 100% happy to answer your questions, but I woefully disagree that any part of it is simple. Every decision we make as councilman have ramifications and if you're not looking at the big picture or the whole board then you're likely to make similar mistakes like Macy's.

I fully understand I'm not going to earn everyone's vote and I'm not going to make decisions that 100% everyone agrees with. However, I will always try to be honest and have integrity.

Ask me anything you'd like, just don't dictate to me how I'm allowed to answer the questions.

I respect that.
Let's me go at this a different way.
Are you supportive of the manner in which the Macys purchase was handled and if elected would you support staff making similar decisions in the future?
EFR
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I see where you are coming from, but in the end a representative has to make a one word vote. I have no problem when someone says "I would vote yes because…". Explaining yourself is great, but have the guts to pick something and stand for it. I'll show myself out as I obviously won't be voting for this guy and don't see the need to give him any more of a platform.

If they sold Macys that could be $2million right there plus tax revenue. But as more time passes it will rot away and be worth nothing and there goes 7million in entirety - keep on kicking Macys down the road.

Government never cuts funds for anything

It's pretty simple to me to surveil your citizens or not. More nefarious acts in history have been sold as safety that any other rouse. When government shows they cannot restrain itself the power to oppress has to be removed. It's simple liberty. It's simple.

Proposed budget passed 6-1 (Yancy the no vote)
Proposed tax increase passed 5-2 (Yancy and White the no vote)

I am not sure how White voted for the proposed budget which requires a tax increase but then against the tax increase, but whatever. It seems that the council was too dug in to find $2.7 million in budget cuts to keep the tax rate the same.

Whether it's simple or complex, the issue has been around long enough and and been a hot button topic long enough.

Definitely long enough that anyone running for office should have their stance on Flock cameras.

By now, if someone doesn't have a direction, it comes across as obtaining votes are more important than the issue.

There is not a perfect candidate and none of us will agree with anyone 100%. Any candidate should show their their stance on all the issues. As votes we will make who we believe is the best choice.

Trying to straddle the line and be in the middle doesn't make all sides happy. It turns them off

Weird how the mayor passed everything and then said next year would be an excellent time to look into cutting some off the things yancy brought up as they were really good ideas - the fix was already in for this year y'all - whammies on taxes and fees.

can't find 3million to cut in a 576 million budget? Really? Old building that need to be sold - overages in budgets that will count as surpluses next year to be used -money hidden in the electric bills - people wanting new buildings - etc…

I am not supportive of the process that unfolded with Macy's

Win or lose I don't think any council should ever conduct business like that again. It hurt the tax payer and 4 years later is still a stain.

Thanks for the update. I saw that you received the endorsement of the College Station Police Officers Association. Congrats on that! Do you feel like that comes with any future expectations or pressures concerning ALPRs?
