Bingo.

What lousy journalism to link the two.

Things have gone down hill at KBTX since Mike Wright left. He was always so professional.

It is a hack job to insinuate he's affiliated to the ACTUAL Dallis businessmen in the area. What business is Christos in, other than dealing? Right.

chrisfield, looks like "this very newspaper" is finally accurate:

Agree to disagree. I don't believe it's too much to add a line mentioning that this gentleman, with a very similar first name and same last name, is not the business owner of local cafe Eccell which has recently been mentioned in this very newspaper quite a bit.

Would you like me to do an "find and replace" to swap KBTX with The Eagle in the quoted posts above?

You bashed the KBTX report for being a hack job and lousy journalism.

Does Ms. Salazar following the report of Michael Oder fall under the categories of hack job and lousy journalism and kicking someone while they were down, or is it just lazy journalism? I'm interested to see if you beat up The Eagle the way you attacked KBTX.

I'll say it again: don't deal meth and you won't end up in the news when you get arrested for dealing meth.

Wellboriginal is really knocking it out of the park in this thread.

Wellboriginal,

Actually no I never did and I'm at work easily 60 hours a week. However I'm paying attention to staff, customers, and the facilities. I have no idea what he does and when.

I've got five children to feed and take that pretty seriously. It's frustrating that this association exists.

Costa,

Thanks for your reply. Hopefully you can catch your breath temporarily with the recent closing of Cafe Eccell and have some time to spend with your family.

Haha thanks. I'm actually working harder than before because this time of year is so busy. Hard work takes one's minds off things too. There's a certain therapeutic consolation that comes from hard work.

Oh well, it's just life.....just humm your way through it.

Wellborn - I'm genuinely not interested in bickering with you. But to the eagle article you posted, it actually explains who the gentleman is (and isn't) quite a bit better than the original KBTX article. And KBTX actually went back last night and added a new section based on LinkedIn which makes me think they agreed to some degree that they could have been more clear originally.

The Eagle article states that his family owns the Eccell businesses and that he describes himself as working for them.

How does that describe it better?

Truly I am curious as to what some of you have against KBTX that you would crush them yesterday but have not extended that same abuse to The Eagle for what amounts to a xerox of the original KBTX article.

I don't want to argue, I just want to understand why it is ok for The Eagle to print this story but not ok for KBTX to air it or put it on their website.

How is Michael Oder a "hack" and "lousy", but Andrea Salazar is above criticism?

Previously I though unfair criticisms posted on this board without any substance to back them up only applied to certain restaurant owners, but I can see it applies to pretty much anybody.

wellborn, you keep arguing something we all agree on: we don't find fault with any news organization reporting a meth dealer. But the vague manner in which KBTX did it (before they edited) was poorly done. The Eagle's article was better.

But keep "knocking it out of the park". Lol

Ah, a businessman without a business. Interesting.

Wellborn - this will be my last post on the subject. It's too beautiful a day to spend doing this

Two main differences between today's eagle article and the original last night on KBTX:

1) the eagle article at least establishes (in the first line) that the guy has ties to several local businesses. While costa has come on here and said that is no longer the the case and has not been for a year, the linkedin account does show there were at least ties at some point. So the eagle didn't just lead with the fact that he's a local businessman, they actually attempted to tell us what business that was.

2) the eagle article specially mentions that this man's family (not him) owns cafe Eccell. That's perfect and should clear up much of the confusion others had about this being one of the two cafe Eccell owners themselves.

Again, I think it's telling that KBTX went back last night and updated their story to give more information about who this man actually worked for in the past that qualifies him as a local businessman.

Have a great day! We all have a lot to be thankful for.

Yes, and yesterday you people were ready to take pitchforks and torches over to East 29th around the KBTX building for associating him with the Eccell Group.

How is it perfect and how does it clear anything up? There is still an association between the accused and the family business, but it doesn't specifically say that he is NOT involved with the family business.

A reader that hasn't found this thread maybe wouldn't know that and in a quick scan of the article might assume "Christos = Eccell Group". Again, the same thing you people were upset about yesterday, but now it is "perfect".

Unreal. It's political campaign manager type spin.

Telling? KBTX reads this board. Several of their staffers post here. It has been noted several times that something of local interest was brought up here first and a few days later KBTX suddenly has a story about it on one of their newscasts. Michael Oder probably read this thread and went back and edited.

I still feel bad for Michael Oder. His story gets referred in an unflattering way by numerous posters, but when the local paper does it, everything is fine.

Are there a bunch of KAGS fans on this board or something?

And yes, it has been a nice day. Yesterday was nice as well. I have enjoyed working in the yard (except for where the county killed it for me).

Have none of yall been anywhere in your lives?

This happens all the time.

If a kid from small town in Kansas gets busted for stealing car radios it is small story. If that small kid is son of sheriff or mayor, it is a bigger story.

If a Los Angeles student gets in trouble for cheating it is not much of a story. If he is quarterback recruit for UCLA, it is big story.

Interesting. Some usernames defended Shel Winkley / Frito / KBTX / KNDE and their lack of accurate icy weather coverage; even defended Shel retweeting "cool" pictures of sleet while traffic hazards existed and accidents occurred. Then when a news story is accurately reported, possibly some of the same usernames criticize KBTX. Michael Oder is a good journalist. Most likely, if anyone went back through the nearly 30 pages of this thread, it could be determined that some of these same usernames supported Cafe Eccel, which in the overall scheme of things, will probably not be missed by the majority of College Station residents. Especially, in light of the last few months.
