I'm a single mom and I believe in putting up your own cart. Its not rocket science, but if you can't figure that out maybe you shouldn't have kids.

Yeah I don't understand what the big deal is. You unload the groceries into the car, then push the cart with the kid(s) still in to the return. Then carry/walk the kid(s) back to the car. Just leaving your cart there is selfish and lazy.

I have a small child & I try to park near a cart corral so I can return my cart quickly. If I can't do that, then I keep my child in the cart while returning the cart and carry him back to the car. I don't feel I am jeopardizing my child's safety by doing it this way.

I'm so concerned with my little one's safety that I park in the fire lane with the flashers on while we go in and do our shopping!

When I'm done, I push my cart into the middle of the driving lane and then speed off from terrible the death trap commonly referred to as a grocery store parking lot.

I recommend taking it to the next level of safety and just leaving the kids at home, I mean, they could get hit by a car on the way to the grocery store. Or what if the gas pumps explode, or the roof of the store collapses?

I'd like to point out that it is illegal and unsafe to leave kids in the car alone (even with the a/c on). Even to walk 2 parking spaces away is not acceptable. The only real option for us moms is to park immediately next to the cart corral, which is what I do. But a lot of times you have to park at the very back of the lot. But, it is doable.

???????

By that logic it is ILLEGAL to stand next to your car with your kids in it?

Ever buy gas while your kids are with ?

This is not directed at MommaBear:

You are a lazy A** if you don't put up the cart you used plain and simply. Everyone here knows it. Quit using excuses about why you can't, won't didn't. Flat out it was too much effort for you to be considerate of OTHERS while in the parking lot. You are a self centered Self Important TWIT and we all see you and know this when you do it.

I had to click on this thread just to see how some people would actually defend NOT putting up their carts. I don't know what's worse: being lazy enough to not put up a cart or using your kids as the excuse why you can't. Pathetic.

You know, I just realized I am ok with this. I'm glad the local child molesters and car thieves have easier targets than my family. Thanks for putting yours on the line so I don't have to worry as much. You can call me lazy all you want like a completely devoid of safety-consciousness idiot as long as it's not my kid getting drug out of the car and murdered or hit by a vehicle in a parking lot. Have at it. You just don't want to admit that the reason you have to insult people is because otherwise, you have to accept that you ARE risking your kids' safety for a stupid SHOPPING CART. lazy lazy lazy! lmao.

Nice defense there. I guess your car doesnt come with locks like mine and everyone elses. I LOCK my car while I put the cart up, I do not start it however.

Last time I checked I just have to worry about purse snatchers at that kroger and well, as a male I don't carry one.

Again, it is pure and simple LAZINESS and self centered to NOT be considerate of others. MANY alternatives have been pointed out on here that do not involve risking your children but DO involve more effort on your part.... so put up or shut up.

Sorry, the more kids than you have hands doesn't fly with me.... I've seen my sister in law manage very well with her three. Her kids are 20 months and 22 months apart and her husband was regularly deployed so she was basically a single mom. She is probably the most vocal "put your cart away" person I've ever met.
Allonym

I don't know where you park your car but mine doesnt get 130 deg.

I also didnt say it is NEVER allowed to leave the cart. In particular if you felt you were in danger.

Heck if aliens invaded and the world was going to end then "F" the cart, it can stay there.

I am more addressing the elderly lady who instead of pushing it to the right of her car (and in to the coral) she pushed it to the left and in to the space I was attempting to pull in to (WHILE I was pulling in), then avoided eye contact got in her car and left while I had to hop out and move the cart and put it in the coral for her.

99.9% of the time there is no excuse other than an "I don't give a F***" attitude because I am too self important and/or too lazy to realize how I inconvienience other people on a daily basis with the weak justifications I come up with for my actions.....

Anyone who thinks its ok to just toss the cart aside is fooling themselves in to believing it is ok. The sampling of people here should tell you it is socially unacceptable to do so.

One time at Target this lady stole a parking place I was about to go into. I happend to be leaving the store and I noticed her putting her stuff in her car. She just pushed her cart inbetween her car and the one next to her. As I walked by I just grabbed all my bags and left my cart right behind her car. Felt good. She had to get out of the car to move it. haha. So yeah I left my cart out once.

I love this thread.

I am a rabid cart putter-upper. I've been one through P.K.,(Pre Kid) pregnancies, infant stages, toddler stages, toddler while expecting stages, toddler and infant stages, young child and toddler stages (getting the picture?) If you want to work it out and do the right thing, it is always possible.

Failure or refusal to consider other people is the only reason that I can think of for doing what you should in this situation.

So let's review, Lar:

You defend the laziness of people not putting up their carts and claiming a safety issue if kids are involved as they use that as a crutch to not have to walk an extra 40 feet while holding a kid or two.

And, according to another thread, you are out of milk so you ask if it would be disgusting
quote:
to try to froth up some evaporated milk for my cappuccino? i am out of regular milk and i need to feed my addiction

So you are too lazy to go to the store!

Is it because you are worried the Cart Police will be on the lookout for you?????

meh, lifes too short to worry about this.

I frequently not only return mine but also look for someone else who is finishing their unloading and try to return that one also. Pay it forward.

There are two things I do when I go to the grocery store:

1) Leave my cart in handicap spots
2) Take all the carts out of the corral and spread them all over the parking lot.

I'm for reals.

Seriously, how hard is it to put your cart up?

I still think the carry outs are the lazy ones. That is part of their job description.

You could get one of the GB losers to leave Northgate and bring it to you, but I'm not sure if Carpool exists to have drunks make milk deliveries.

I have to admit, when my kids were little I didn't always put up the cart, but I did at least try to make sure it would not roll anywhere.

But I also got to see a car that had been left running with small children inside and one of those children got out of her car seat like most kids do, and hit the gear shift knocking it into reverse. The car roll back into a fairly busy street, then into a building that was on the other side of the road.

None of the children were hurt thank God, but it was enough to scare me. Not to mention the threat of someone stealing your car while your kids are inside of it.

Now my kids are bigger, and not only do I return my own cart, we usually return 2 or 3 others that people have left while we are at it. I also offer to take people's cart if I see them unloading their groceries, as do my kiddos. If there are carts in a spot where I want to park, I move them first.

Not trying to toot my own horn, just pointing out that instead of getting really mad and letting it ruin your whole day, just see it as some extra exercise as you move a few extra carts and helping out your fellow man a little.

I read some of these posts and I just can't stop crying.....oh the humanity. Way, way, way too many crybabies in this world! Perhaps, if this is a big problem, the store should hire ONE $8 an hour person to return carts instead of letting them stack up everywhere in the lot. Who the hell ever made it a rule that I have to provide free labor for Krogers or Sams or anyone else. I leave the cart behind my car and back over it, crushing it into a neat little easy-to-carry package.

Yes, that is what we should do. Hire more people to do something we could do ourselves in 30 seconds or less, which will eventually drive up costs. Maybe Obama has a program to provide funds for cart returns so lazy Americans can depend on the government for one more thing.

People that don't return carts = Democrats

If you ask for help to the car, the sackers will help you. Just ask. It's not hard to ask, is it?

I'm actually more irritated with folks in the fire lane than with folks leaving carts in a safe (ie., non-rolling away) place.

I know if you shop at Village Foods you never seem to have a problem having someone take your groceries to your car for you. I actually don't mind doing it myself and always put my cart up especially when they are busy, I would prefer them to help the elderly or the mom's with little ones. People that don't put their cart up is a peeve of mine because my car has been damaged by one but really, it only takes a few extra seconds.
