Migrators showed up. Had a ton of birds in the field, they decoyed to the mojos way better than any birds all season.

On my way to having a bird dog.

How do you simulate a dove hunt with retrievers? I've been told it's hard because of the amount of gunfire on a dove hunt.

Or are you isolated enough that there aren't a million shots going off and confusing the dog?

Get some shotgun poppers and a bird thrower and simulate it by yourself before you introduce him to multiple guns going off. Make sure you teach force fetch first, once puppy teeth are gone. Until then just make him have fun and fetch a dummy with a 30' long lead line in a long narrow place like a hall way or narrow dog run. Worked for me on my Draht.

Hoping for dumb easy yankee birds this evening and tomorrow. This weather is amazing for it, in Central Texas, that is for sure!

Wish we had some public spots in far east Texas - we make our annual hunt in Brown county and it is just too Much damn fun to just do one weekend a year

We had a great day on Thursday before the front moved in (pic from that day). Today not as great.

Very weak showing tonight, birds just weren't flying. Maybe they'll show up in December.

We had good birds Sat night after that front had gone through. A late flurry seems to be our pattern the last few weeks. Maybe 1 or 2 shots before 6pm and then they swarm in groups of 4 to 6 until legal shooting ends. They are not shy to the decoys amd some fat northern birds are here.

This has been my best year so far, since keeping records. I think it helps to have 2 locations to alternate between and only hunt 1x a week at either. Trying to make 2 more hunts before the season ends, as I am setting my season PB in terms of doves dropped.

Some fatties in there.

I need to find a damn lease up here that isn't over hunted to high hell.

I wish we had some white wings, but it's always 100% mourning dove.

This season hasn't been as good as the last two years. I'm hoping they'll pick up during the second season in December/January.

Our last few hunts this week had very few birds left. I think they have all flown south. We will probably attempt one last hunt, Sunday evening, just to be out there. I don't know about y'all, but this was an amazing season for me. I was able to hunt a lot more times than I normally do.

Headed to Hebronville with a big group for an annual hunt. Not sure what to expect but will be fun regardless of numbers.
About 300 mourning dove and one nice rattler. Good hunt but zero white wings

Saw quite a few driving between NB and Seguin yesterday along Huber Rd. We had a booth at the Buck Fever event. Anyone ever been?

Heading to Freer area today, toting along the shotty. As mentioned above, not sure what to expect numbers-wise.

Limits on my buddy's place outside La Pryor the weekend before last.

Swam in the Nueces.

Made dove nuggets for the guys.

Life was good.

Got one last hunt in this morning for the season, only brought home 5 but I lost a couple and missed a few more that I should've hit. Still had a better time than I will watching the football team here in a few hours.

Was a solid season overall, but numbers for our spot in Burleson County were slightly down from the past 2-3 years.

Hunts this year:
9/1 - 15 birds
9/7 - 8 birds
9/11 - 15 birds
10/3 - 10 birds
10/17 - 5 birds
10/24 - 5 birds

On a different note, this dove hunting thread stayed active a lot longer than years past. Seems like there's plenty of years it doesn't get to 100 replies and falls off the first couple pages by a few weeks into the season, so I was glad to see people stayed after it and enjoyed reading yalls hunt reports and commentary.
