Unfortunately, most snakes are not safe around the common person, regardless of size.

18 box turtle in the garden tonight. Was mowing an overgrown part; luckily, I had the mower on high, and didn't hit him and noticed him.

I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Been a slow snake year. One of these nearly tagged one of my collies. Reared up but did not strike. Was a mellow copperhead. Never struck once during capture.

What's the prognosis if a dog gets hit by a copperhead?
AKA 13-0

Most of the time it swells up, seeeps from the wounds, and they get very irritable grom the pain but 24-48 hours later you can barely tell it happened.

I've had dogs bitten by a copperhead, a moccasin, and what we think was a timber rattler.

The timber did quite a bit of scarring to the dogs leg but full recovery.

The moccasin did a lot of localized tissue damage to a toe on a paw but again, it did heal with proper care.

The copperhead caused a very grouchy collie with a comically swollen muzzle.

The bites Can be dangerous if they affect breathing or are substantial and go right to the heart or inject a lot of venom but figs are tough. Mostly copperheads don't do much.

I had a dog get tagged by a copperhead once as a kid and his head swelled like a balloon. Was actually comical once my dad told me he'd be fine.

Like you said "or inject a lot of venom", I've heard that can be a real issue when bitten by young snakes, since they haven't leaned how to control their injections. They sometimes give you every drop they have.

Paige TX. It's the southern reaches of post oak prairie which is prime copperhead habitat in Texas. I'm also on the edge of the lost pines which is also good copperhead habitat.

My aunt from Florida sent me this to confirm, juvenile racer? At first I thought rat snake but the head and eyes look more like a racer.

If anyone wants to know what a copperhead bite feels like, I can now give a very accurate description.

Technically it's two bites. Little bugger appears to have got me twice.

I saw one while k was in the front yard walking our oldest dog. I take one step forward for a closer look, then feel a burning pain in my left foot, look down, and see a bit of copperhead in the grass by my foot, jumped back, and see the red spots from the fangs. Never had a clue there was a second snake until it had bitten me.

It took a bit to really start hurting and the swelling was slow and steady. It feels like a dull ache combined with a wasp sting, plus you can feel the swelling. It's not nearly as bad as I would have guessed it would be paa as in wise but definitely unpleasant. If I don't move it feels like a dull ache with a bit of burning sensation. Just weird.

Serves you right walking around barefoot on your property after all the snakes in a bucket pics you send, big bro ...

Karma is a copperhead

At least you didn't cut off the tip of your thumb with a table saw, like some other bonehead I know.

That's my little bro. I'll go barefoot if I please…except probably not after dark in summer anymore. I used to think what are the odds? Higher than I imagined it would seem. Though, most shoes would not have stopped the fangs. I'd need something pretty heavy duty
The swelling has stopped at my ankle though my lower leg is very slightly swollen. It is still a dull ache, and quite touch sensitive. Feels a lot like I sprained my foot or ankle badly.

My major annoyance right now is I am quite sleepy but my fitness is sort of backfiring on me right now. My resting sleeping heart rate is 45-50 bpm and below 47 keeps tripping the alarm on the monitor I am on in the ER. So far they have not seen the need for antivenin but if my ankle swells much more they might give me a unit.

The ER seemed to be excited to have a unique but real emergency instead of people misusing it for non emergencies.

Sorry about the bite. For about 5 years I have been wondering when you were going to get bit with the amount of copperheads you post. Hopefully you can get some sleep before too long!

Hang in there Mouth! Hopefully you've got some cute er nurse taking care of you.

The double bite seems a bit curious. Are they fast biters or are those beautiful feet insensitive to pain.
