Well. I feel like a total slacker saying that today was my first hunt in Texas for the season. 40 years of duck hunting and I've never seen anything like it. Just hasn't been anything to hunt. I've had the same small groups of birds sitting on my spots for a few weeks, hoping they would build.
Started the day off on the river bottom. Normally hundreds of woody's by now but we've peaked at 30-40.

Moved to my place out at Somerville for the afternoon. Again, normally a spot loaded with wood ducks, but not this year. I usually get a handful of mallards each season, so very grateful that a few showed.

One thing for sure, the lack of numbers definitely helps you to slow down and appreciate the few that you do get a chance at.

Not a bad way to spend a Monday.
