Supposed to be 54 at Beaver Creek on Monday when we get there. Yuck!

Bachelor gulch was already pretty icy yesterday FYSA. That happened to me last year when I went to Vail late Jan, no bueno.

Into the void, but such is the internet life. I share, so I share more.

I'm out on the mountain tomorrow for 24 hours to clear my head. Then back for father/daughter dance Friday night at church with the 6 year old.

High to low, a lot has happened since NY with that post. It ended in a miscarriage. It's such a nothing burger, but an everything burger in the grand scheme of things. Anyways, skiing tomorrow night and Friday morning to just not. We decided to tell our 6 year old this weekend on the mountain and gave her a big sis sweater. Then Sunday night happened and it all flushed at 18 weeks. Wife has a slew of doc visits and wrecked. Bleh. Just *****

Sorry to hear that. We went through 3 of those over the course of about 18 months and had moved onto specialists. A few vitamins and some over the counter stuff and magically we got pregnant by the grace of god.

He's now 10 months old and we look back on how rough that time was.

Only support I can provide is chin up, try again, and see some trusted doctors. Pregnancy is a miracle and sometimes just needs a little nudge.

Very sorry to hear. We went through it too - twice in a row. It was extremely difficult (crushing for her). But we stayed the course and ended up with twins the next time around, which seemed fitting. Biggest thing is to support her (obviosuly), keep yalls head up and you'll get through it.

Brother my heart breaks reading that. I think it's far more common than anyone talks about but it is so hard emotionally, i can't even imagine 18 weeks. Take care of each other and your little girl and keep getting into those mountains for healing.

Same. Everyone treats it like you shouldn't talk about, but I know so many people who have had to go through it.

8" at Purg in last 24 hrs. Good day, glad I didn't shovel snow today at house, it all melted!

Yeah, it was 2 days good skiing during and after the snow, and we're on our way home today. It's already getting warm, and melting off everything. Only two good crashes this time, both my fault for a bit recklessly flying off a roller without being quite able to stick the landing on the downhill terrain.

I hope the new snow lasts a few more days at least.

Absolute cluster F at Schweitzer today. 14" in the last 24, bluebird day, busiest day on the mountain this year. Avalanche crew has the entire back bowl shutdown still.

A camper van got stuck on one of the switchbacks this morning and it was a stand still for miles. Luckily we were ahead of them.

First time skiing with the family was spring break 2022 at Beaver Creek. It snowed the night before and continued into the morning. We hop in my wife's two wheel drive Tahoe to get up the mountain around 7am. We start up the switchbacks from Avon and there is a suburban turned sideways. I had to make the split decision of either stopping and probably never getting started again or squeeze around doing 15. Chose the ladder and thankful we did because no one else got by for 45 minutes.

The person was ok just stuck in the ditch fyi.

Was there on the 20th-23rd. Everything was open. All groomed though as they haven't had snow for a week before we got there. Looks like they're getting 3-6" this week. Should be good unless you're looking for 18" of POW!!

Just picked up some new to me Black Crows Captis. I've been on some Rosignol pursuit 200 170cm for the last three seasons. They've been great but as I've gotten much better at speed and turns I wanted something a little longer and stable. Not to mention a bit wider for powder. Pretty excited to test them out this next week.

That pancake compressor has been with me almost a decade.

Oops.

On the topic of avalanche charges, at the end of November I was at Breckenridge and they were setting off charges in the Horseshoe bowl directly above where I was skiing. The exact area wasn't open obviously, it was provably about 1000' away. I trust they know what they doing but damn was that weird and a bit eerie to me. Never seen them do that above an area that's open. They opened the bowl later that day too.

a bump on the thread, but just yesterday started considering doing a Spring Break Ski Trip.

Would be the first time for my 2 young kids and my wife does not have much skiing experience at all.

Was thinking Park City and found a spot walk distance near Cabriolet Lift in the Canyons Village area.

I figured it would be easier to fly into SLC than Yampa (HDN) for Steamboat. Am I off base? Do you all have a recommendation for inexperienced first-timers on the slopes as in Steamboat versus Park City? Kids are 5&7

Be careful out there. My uncle broke rib 6 on his right side and got a black eye in a crash on our trip. He'll be fine but was too banged up to ski the last day. I'm glad helmets are now so popular as it could have been worse without one.

I am curious if they make padded gear for older skiers like they do for bikers?

SLC to PC and HDN to the boat are both pretty short easy drives and both good choices if avoiding a crap shoot through the pass / tunnel on I-70 from Denver.

Not there but can say it's pretty damn warm down here in the springs. I suspect it's quite warm up there as well with a lot of melt/refreeze spring conditions going on right now.

Do you prefer one spot over the other? I skied steamboat back when I was a kid. Had to ski down the mountain in blizzard, hah. Also, I figured flights would be more economical from DFW to SLC than the regional airport of Yampa. So far, I've only been digging into Park City.

Salt lake to park city is super easy. Did it twice this season. Just know that the Canyons side of Park City has very little "green or beginner" area. It may be enough for a first timer only there for a couple of days but if you're wanting more beginner stuff you need to make your way over to the park city side. And riding the lifts over is not going to be easy for beginners.

We have done lessons twice on the canyons side and it was great. Just want you to know the park city side may be better.

I've been going to Steamboat 1-2 x year (ski season and summer) for 20 years as I have family there, so I'm very biased. I've only been to Park City in the summer once and skiing once. It's nice and convenient. I will say though, if you're looking for spring break, flights to HDN over the same week as Texas's spring break might already be full.

Yes, I quickly looked at the trail maps and chair lift map and had the same conclusion about it looking like I need to be near the Mountain Village instead of Canyon Village. Either that or be willing to drive to to Mountain Village

Again, it can work for a couple of days but by the second day my kids and wife were ready for something new.

As a dad who has done the beginner trip with young kids abs a wife just remember to be super patient. I thought we'd never do it again but here we are four years later taking multiple trips. Skiing with your kids is awesome!

Hard with some icy spots as of yesterday. Would recommend skiing on the shaded part of peak 10.

Heading to Copper Thursday for a long weekend. I haven't skied since 2021 but I'm looking forwards to it. Looks like a warm week and possible some snow Thursday-Saturday. What are y'all seeing?

Add this to your decision making. The trek from Denver airport to the rental car is long! SLC is right there with no shuttle.
