SB is on Ikon. Hit up your friends with one. They have 8 buddie passes per season (25% discount).

Mine are all spoken for.

All of my buddies don't ski anymore, all have young kids and live in Texas. We only have the 2-day base pass from Ikon.

I almost bought those this summer. I think it's the perspective but the fat part of those tips looks super elongated.

Yeah it's the photo angle but the shovel design does kinda look like you're skiing on a platypus bill, but I quickly got over that with how well they skied when I demoed them last season.

Here

Closest fairly sized mountain to me when I lived in Minot ND. Skied there a handful of times when I couldn't make the hall all the way to big sky. I thought it was a pretty solid mountain for what it was.

My wife relayed that my mother in law was asking for Christmas suggestions. Suggested something ski related. I've already bought new boots, skis, poles and gloves in the last year. Bought some of those clips tics the other day. Only thing I could kind of think of would be another piece or set of base layers.

Any ski related guft suggestions?

10th year in a row with family Spring Break to Steamboat. Getting ungodly expensive. But only have a few years left with kids at home so will keep the tradition.
This is the first year in 20 years we are not doing our annual ski trip to Deer Valley the week between Christmas and New Years. Both kids out of college and working now and cannot get off.....

Enjoy your time while you can!

If you're my age: quality knee braces. Don't need them but they help.

Depends on what you're into.

ZipFit boot liners if the budget is high. Wanting to BC: probe, beacon and shovel. Private lesson at your favorite resort. Boot bag. Backpack. Wall art of your favorite resorts. Buff. Carve if you're into ski tech.

This hits home. Have an 11, 9 and 6 year old and absolutely love flying down the mountain with them. I always look at single couples breezing through the lift lines and then hitting the bar afterwards and i'm a little jealous but I know when they're out of the house and can't ski anymore I'll be the jealous one looking at the dad at his wits end trying to get his kids through the lift.

Man the problem with all of these suggestions is I generally just buy what I want (after agonizing over spending money on myself for months and researching obsessively). Bought a new boot bag last season and ski bag this season.

Question for the group.

I'm skiing next week in CO at Wolf Creek. It's been 2 years since I've skied, but I grew up in Breck and skiing darn near every weekend. Now my life with small children and terrible interest rates has made it hard to keep up with some more of the current new skis and updated "tech" that's out there.

In my younger years, I was all about speed and aggressive terrain with moguls and whipping through the trees. Not so much a mogul demon anymore but still very much a speed demon. I enjoyed timing myself with how quickly I can rip down the groomed blacks last time at Wolf because there was 0 wait in the lift lines. Probably would be best suited with all-mountain set-up and something that can help plow through the powpow.

I'm gonna bring my boots and rent some demo's but wanted to see what the group thinks about potential rec's to look at?

Height and weight? It's probably going to depend on what the conditions are like when you get there as to the best ski for it. You describe mostly what I do. I bought a set of wider carving skis with a good rocker and tips, solid but some more forgiving flex than a real racing ski. they are versatile enough for some powder or crud but want to go fast and turn with authority if it is groomed or even icy. But it seems to me prett much any good all mountain or frontside ski in an appropriate length and width would work for you these days. I don't go near enough to push my own modest setup to its limits.

Heading out to Wolf Creek this weekend and looks like they just had a timely storm blow through. Will be my 2nd time going to WC and I think it is an isolated and hidden gem. Anyone else going this weekend?

WC picked up 3 Today and 5 inches over the last week. It hasn't been a hidden gem for a decade.

I'd ask her for a wax Iron and kit and Learn How to wax my own skis. Itll save you thousands and you'll get better wax and can blend waxes to get a better ride on days w cross conditions.

You'll want a gummi stone (soft/extra soft), vices, bands for the brakes, wax (I'd get purple and a carbon black to start if 3 I'd go purple Black Blue), iron, scraper, and I like a small Diamond file.

Set them up in the vices, and Before you wax, feel along the edges for burrs, and use the Diamond file to gently run along the edge to shave off the burrs. Then take the gummi Stone and run it along the edge (don't set a new edge just run it along the edge) to take off any oxidation/crap. Then you're good to melt wax, spread it, let it cool and then scrape.

Also get a good shop vac lol that lol save you alot of time.

WC this weekend Will be at most a couple of inches.

If you're 6'4 and 215 and want to go fast then you need to be on at least 180+ id say 188 or even 190s if they have them.

At your height you're going to want something stiff or you're going to toe Chatter hard on a Black groomer w grade.

My Rec would be Enforcer 88 or Kendo and or Volkl Mantra. You have the weight and a titanal core will hold up way better than a carbn or poplar wood at wour size.

Next if you're Straighlining groomers you'll probs want something that's rocker toe and flat or partial rocker heel. If you go full rocker camber rocker at your size your effective edge to height ratio is really high which is going to feel unstable and make stopping on grade or moving through turns feel very wonky.

If you want something more than 88 then look at the 94s
Rossy TI are another option at your size.

BC picked up 11 over the last 24 but pretty different Numbers across the hill. 11 at Red Buffalo and Top of Strawberry Park to back side of BG Ridge. 6-8 Centennial and 5-6 top of Arrowhead.

Vail 6-8
Breck 10-11
Keystone 4
WC 3
ngel Fire 0
Steamboat 6

Beaver Creek was already the hill w the largest % above median at 145% before adding the number above.

Down South the Hills that got slammed early have seen the faucet turn off completely (regression to the mean?)

WC - through this friday they will have been dry on 14/15 days. If it snows today (really last night / this morning early) that would be 14/16 with 10 days of no snow forecast. So, potencial for 24/26 days with no mesure le snow fall. Thats savage for them. Luckily they still have early snow but that's not great moving into the holidays. We will see.

Taos - now at 91% of median maybe 1 inch over next 10
Angel Fire - now just over 100% but outside of an inch or two, nothing mensurable since before thanks giving with maybe an inch forecast through 10

Telly picked up 3 (137% median)
Purg reporting 0 (128%)

Snowmass: 8 (126%)

This week/10 Day forecast looks best for Steamboat. They should break over 100% of median by the EOTW with todays Numbers plus 12-15 expected friday - wednesday. Doesn't look like that storm will do much South of 70. REALLY dry weather for the Sangre de Cristos and San Juans but moreso for SDC's.

Through next 10

San Juans/SDC's:

Telly/Purg: 6 expected telly, 1 at purg
WC: another fat 0 through 10
AngelFire: 0 through 10

10 Mile:

Breck: 3
Key: 1

Gore/Sawatch:

Snowmass: 6
BC: 6
Vail: 7

Meanwhile in UT and WY: So far one of the driest early seasons on rcord. Good news is snow forecast or likely for 8 of next 10 days. 15-21 inches expected. Bad News Park City 53% median Snowpack. Solitude 63%, Jackson 63% so they need it.

Anyone got advice or know of a way to get a decent price on lift tickets to Keystone?

TLDR version, my son is a FR in high school. They have off a week in February. He has grown up playing soccer. This season he stopped doing club soccer but was going to tryout for HS soccer. Tryouts started Dec 2nd and season started shortly after and ends in March. The HS coach will NOT let you leave that week they have off. Still practice and games. I would only be able to take a few days off that week anyways so a few months ago to be safe I went ahead and booked airfare on miles super cheap. That way I could cancel if my son made the HS team. Well, my son decided to not tryout. So now I can move forward with finalizing plans to go. Car and housing easy to line up. Now I go to look at lift tickets and they are astronomical!!! $200+ per day for one person. In prior years I had booked the Epic pass they have strictly for keystone/breck for about $70 per day. I just noticed that had to be purchased by december 3rd so I'm trying to find a way to save some coin on lift tickets.

There is no real hack that I am aware of for skiing at Vail Resorts and not being bent over a barrell on the lift ticket prices.

Maybe you can look at Copper instead? A bit more of a drive down i70, but might be a bit more affordable? The Summit Bus system will run to and from there through Frisco.
