I'll be that guy. I don't like hearing other peoples music when I'm outdoors. Usually it's not a huge deal - but it can be really annoying depending on volume, proximity and music choice. Just because some (or even most) people like it - doesn't mean everyone does.

Oh I'm definitely opposed to a speaker. Only curious about headphones.

I go with 1 earbud and listen to an audiobook or podcast.

You guys also made Peak Rankings top 20 this year.

Which honestly, sorry, I was surprised, but let's go!!!

I've got the cardo speakers that slip into the ear warmers on my helmet and love them. After using the same system in all of my motorcycle helmets the past few years I immediately looked for a similar system when I decided to get back on the slopes. It's really nice to be able to make or take a call on the lift to figure out where my group is and make plans. I probably played music or podcasts about 35%-40% of the time last year and with the volume kept low didn't notice any problems at all hearing other people around me.

#32 I guess. I don't need anyone ranking Schweitzer anywhere. Parking sucks, lodge sucks, prices suck, Sandpoint had nothing to offer.

Go to Big Sky instead.

Brighton has a great ski school. (and will be much, much cheaper than ski school at the Park City resorts).

Brighton doesn't offer full day ski lessons. They offer 1-6 hour privates at $145/hr + pass or they offer 2 hour group lessons held 2x a day no pass included. For what it's worth, a 2 hour group lesson is worthless. The overall price difference between 2 1/2 days at brighton and 1 full day at PCC isn't as dramatic as you'd think and you get ALOT more from a full day w a lunch split than 2 2 hour half day splits where you go to the base and back and pick up new group members.

If you decide on Brighton, I'd go with a 2-3 hour Private over half day or two half days. You'll progress much further and won't have near the down time. Rule of Thumb is the 3 hour Private at Brighton plus ticket plus gear equals about the same as a full day group at PCC + LT + gear.

I typically advise adults to go Private and kids to go group.

Alta and Snowbird have the top ranked Ski Schools in Utah. Scott Mathers runs Alf Engen at Alta and It's world renound. PSIA always has them up at the top Nationally.

I like the experience of skiing including the sounds of it. If I want music I will take a break and have a beer at the lodge or the mountain top lounge. It's a personal preference thing.

Also, any input on foot inserts? I've read both that good ones help fit noticeably but that people with fairly average arches and foot shape don't benefit much unless they drop big coin on custom fitted ones.

I normally have one ear bud in with maybe a podcast or audible if I'm just doing solo laps.

Thinking of adding a Cardo Packtalk or sena snowtalk this year so that I can talk to my daughter when she's going way faster than me down the hill.

I had never consider one of these, but I'm glad you mentioned it. My daughter has a bad habit of getting ahead or not watching her surroundings. Looks like I have 35% off Cardo through ExpertVoice, but that's still pricey.

I've had both chips and smith's over the years. My chips are the 1st gen so not all that great but get the job done. Smiths are pretty solid for the money, especially if you have a pro deal with them.

I'd be looking at the communication headsets. I'm good with ear buds for listening, but would be nice to have better verbal communication with my daughter.

I went to Taos during spring break a couple of years back with my daughter and the crowds were "ok". Then we drove over to Angel fire one day and it was an epic CF. I told myself never again, but I can only pull my 5 year old out of school so many times.

How's Brighton/Alta these days during SB? I see local Utah kids SB is after Texas.

Bayou City
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Alta isn't bad at all. Ski only.

The only hill in UT that gets really crushed like CO is Park City/Canyons but they have a huge foot print so it doesn't feel nearly as crowded as Keystone or Breck. The cottonwoods are usually not to bad.

Thanks!

I used to ski Brighton, Alta as a teenager every year but it had been so long I've forgotten what SB has been like.

I just know we need to get further away than NM and CO.

Your problem isn't going to be the local SB, it's going to be that you're on TX Spring break. TX Spring break is the worst hands down bar none for every hill in UT/NM/CO.

By Location the busiest hills will be

UT:

#1 PCCR
#2 DV

Alta/Snowbird are going to be more Advanced. DV/A/SB are ski only too so less traffic without the boarder lice.

NM:

#1 RR/AF
#2 Taos
#3 Ski Apache and then sper small indys like Pajarito.

CO

Avoid anything along the front range like It's the plague then Stemaboat, WP, Vail, BC. Vailis less crowded and bigger so it works better, BC never really gets crazy busy. SB is the worst but it's still 1/2 of Breck/Keystone. Aspen / Snowmass are never a wait but they are also $$$. The best CO hill for no SB crowds are probably Highlands/Snowmass.

You could go to somewhere like Big white but that's a Schlep.

Beaver Creek isn't bad other than the first Monday of TX spring break, and that's really only Hay Meadow due to all the lessons. We made that mistake once. Sure it's worse than any other week but we never wait more than 5 minutes to get on any lift on any part of the mountain.

I feel most of the locals avoid every Colorado hill during that week.

I thought about Deer Valley for a moment and then saw Icon excludes them unless you do $1000 pass.

Park City Epic has good deals, but I only looked on that side because AirBNB are plentiful. We are traveling with my older parents and wanted to have a house to ourselves vs hotel rooms.

Dude. Thanks for the ExpertVoice reminder. Forgot I signed up for that last year and it's still valid. Think I'll go with the Cardo.

Looks like that 35% off deal expires in 2 days, FYI.

Northern NM getting great snow. I'm at 6500' elevation and we currently have 22" in the last day and still snowing into tomorrow. Customers at higher elevations saying much more than that. It's just one storm early, but it has been an enormously long time since NM had such a base so early to start a season. Will go a long way if can get decent regular storms.

Anyone have experience with Revelstoke? Went down the google rabbit hole looking at Canadian resorts and stumbled upon this one. I had never heard of it before but apparently has the most vert in North America.
