DUMPING in Winter Park right now. Happy President's Day everyone. Trump 2024.

9" overnight and still dumping. About time the western slope gets caught up. Hoping for a great week when we get up there next month.

Steamboat is certainly making up for a recent lull in snow. 46 inches in the last week. Actually sitting above the 30 year median average now. I remember a certain somebody said it was going to be a light snow year since that usually happens with an early season dump. Hmm.....

We debated running over there but stayed up front today. Eating a slice of pizza right now! Let me know if you end up at Purgy's or the beach. Look for the married couple of boarders in maroon pants.

Here at Telluride and they just hit 3' in the past week. Snow isn't quite as light as normal but it's been great. I did a full day lesson yesterday and spent most of the day learning to ski deeper powder and bumps and am way more confident in ungroomed terrain now.

Yeah, stupid amount of snow. We got to WP Saturday and started skiing yesterday. Skied in snow over my knees coming down the chutes in the trees below Panoramic today. It was magical considering it was shut down due to wind yesterday. Absolutely incredible stuff.

At one point in the morning, we were riding the Panoramic lift and it stopped for a couple minutes. A guy skiing down the moguls under the lift completely wiped out. Yard sale. You couldn't see a single piece of his equipment. It literally disappeared into 24" of snow. The next time we rode the lift up, there was a 10' diameter circle in the snow where he had dug around. Guess he found it.

The boy and I in the trees next to Blue Bell….

First time skiing in Montana today at Bridger Bowl and it was absolutely magical. Deep powder with a nice snowfall all day long. $5 PBRs at the halfway house made it even better!

Headed to park city area over spring break.

What is the best school for someone who has no ski experience? Deer valley or at park city ( Mountain Village or Canyons Village)

Been awhile since I was at Deer Valley, but was at PC a couple of weeks ago.

Both Canyons and Mountain have ski schools, but it looked like Mountain was the most popular and also had easier runs in general.

If you are a true beginner, you will probably not like Canyons. Also hope the conditions are better for you then when I was there.

Thanks! It's what seemed to be the consensus while doing research but wanted to check with my fellow Aggies here!

Not good conditions while you were there?

They were way behind on snow, so the upper parts of the mountain were icy and bare. Lower parts were more groomed and had snow making equipment.

With this last storm they are probably in decent shape.

Deer Valley is considered the best ski school, and your kids won't have to ski around snowboarders flying by or plopping down in the middle of the runs. And they do the best grooming, with plenty of easy runs. But it's also the most expensive.

That said, I've had the best experience finding someone in a rental shop who does lessons on days off, but that would be hit and miss. I don't have recent experience doing that, though.

Good for the base, but the highs next week are all well above freezing.

We went for MLK when lows were around -20 and I felt colder at home in BCS that next week than anytime in Colorado (expect putting chains on one morning).

The humidity plays a big role in how the cold feels. I can walk around up here in MT in a light sweater when it's in the mid-20s.

I was on a project in Giddings with an archeologist that grew up in North Dakota and it was upper 20s and sleeting with 20-30mph winds and he said he had never had a cold like that up north.

Nice - I've only been up there in the summer. It's beautiful there - can only imagine how it is in winter. If you did that with an outfitter, can you share who it was?

Telluride Outfitters we met and left out of Village Market.

Nice! Thanks. How did you get up there? Drove in vehicles up the normal road or snowmobiled all the way up?

I just ask because that road can be a little treacherous for regular vehicles even in the summer. I wouldn't think it would be maintained at all or otherwise passable by regular (even off road) vehicles at all in the winter. And it's a good ways up there.

We were up there one beautiful summer day in July and a storm came through (lot of wind, rain and hale). We and everyone else started to GTFO of there and were driving down the road back to the higway as the road was washing out right in front of us. Pretty wild.

Anyway, just curious. I'd love to do that. Beautiful spot.

They picked us up in 4x4 vans at Village Market then we went down 145 about 3/4 of the way to Ames and pulled off at a trailhead where the snowmobiles were staged. Rode the snowmobiles up the mountain from there past the observatory up to a meadow right between Palmyra and the back side of baldy
