I have...."a friend" that can make that care drive out under it's own power. I know they call that stealing, but clearly that guy doesn't need it.

I have always wanted to have abandoned cars like that, and the ones i see on the road, picked up and towed to my place. I figure I could just file for a lost title at that point. Probably have to do something about the VIN, but that fix is only one pick a part trip away.

Is there any reason you couldn't just pick it up? If I turned it into a ranch vehicle, it would never see the road again and no one would ever be able to locate it.

In the case of the OP, there's definitely a body in the trunk.
Anyone else find this post kinda weird? "I've always wanted to take things that aren't mine because I could get away with it and I don't feel guilty about it"

He's always throwing out unbelievable statements. It's part of the schtick.

That car is doomed. I sent an email to ABIA asking what happens if I lose my ticket. This was the response:

Once you push the service call button on the kiosk machine an attendant will look up your license plate information and give you the amount.

You should lighten up too. One thing that you can go ahead and get over is the fact that lots of people have already had the thought cross their mind and wondered about it. Anyone in this thread that says they haven't had that thought cross their mind is a damn liar, or Jesus.

And judging by the amount of tall tales in the OB, I'm banking on "not Jesus"

I was thinking maybe this guy parked his second ride here while he drove around Africa in a tricked out jeep until the PI chimed in he is up in the northeast.

Told an APD officer that I saw on my way out about it. He said that ABIA scans all plates nightly as they drive through, and if it doesn't come back as stolen they'll leave them there forever before towing.he said there are a couple in the south terminal that have been there months as well.

This is easy:

Rent a legit blue Honda CRV. Take the plates off the legit one and put them on the old one. Wipe the car down so it isn't so damned dusty. Drive out with the garage ticket of the rental. Return and put the plates back on the rental. Leave it overnight so ABIA scans the rental plates and then drive out the following day and make a lost ticket claim. You get both vehicles out for the cost of a lost ticket fee and 1.5 days of parking

Wouldn't it be easier to steal a car that's parked on the street somewhere? That way you know it has been recently driven and you don't have to fix it before you steal it, also you avoid the logistics and additional crime of parking fee theft/fraud. Or you could steal a different car from the parking garage, that somebody left the parking ticket laying on the dash or console? Just steal the car and pay the fee of 2 days or however long the car you are stealing has been there. Of course none of these plans gets around that pesky moral and legal issue of taking a vehicle that's not yours.

Abandoned cars at aiports is/was a huge issue in Australia back in the day. Tourists, students, etc would buy dirt cheap cars instead of rentals, and then just leave them at the airport when they flew home. I had a coworker that did this on a study abroad back in school. He said hundreds of there were 100s of abanonded cars.

I'm not trying to start an argument at all, but the thought to find a way to take the car never crossed my mind. But I did find it comical and it didn't offend me!

I like to think some guy from Minnesota was having a horrible time at work and threw in the towel. Drove to Austin, bought a 1 way ticket to Mexico. Living on a beach somewhere now without a care in the world. Maybe better if that was his ex wife's car. I've always threatened that if I lose it, look for me running a panga in Mexico and sleeping on the beach.

Modern day Andy Dufresne? Breaks out of prison in Maine (for something he didn't do), drives car to Austin airport, flies to the west coast of Mexico...

No argument necessary. For a lighthearted comment way back on page one, just got to be careful with defensive posts like this. They have a very "Ohio State Rep Wesley Goodman" vibe.
