That being said, CO muzzleloader laws are pretty restrictive, so you don't have that much of an advantage over a bow.

.50 cal min for Elk. .40 for Deer. Iron sights only, loose powder (no pellets), and full bore canonicals (no sabots). Check your book to make sure nothing changed.

Yeah... def looks like a no go on the bow. Aperture style sights seem to be legal.

Time to start shooting the ol smoke pole, just in case.

FYI- CO sheep draw results are posted. Check your account, or you should be getting an email.

I was unsuccessful, tried to draw a local ewe tag. No surprise, as it was my first time trying. Point in the bag for next year.

0-2 so far (struck out on NM elk and CO sheep). Just waiting to see on elk and deer muzzleloader draw now. Hard to eat that tag soup if they don't give you any tags!!!

I've been playing around with some micro diameters but haven't liked the flight. Made up three w 4 fletch and took them out in a big wind this morning.

90yds field tips:

Need some more fine tuning before I screw a broadhead on these mofos and see where they hit. They flew great though.

I got two emails, one for deer PP and one for elk PP. The deer one has a credit card confirmation at the bottom but the elk says it couldn't process my card online. When I logged in and navigated to the Draw tab as they suggested, there was no payment option. I would be interested in learning what you hear from them.

Thanks!!

I was drawn for an antlerless mule deer tag in units 101, 102, and 109 in eastern Nevada. Anyone else hunt Nevada? This will be my first time hunting public land. I'm lookong forward to going out there in September to scout it out.

I am in this same position with identical correspondence from them this morning. I tried calling as well but their lines are busy.

I have the same email.... Going to let it sort out for a couple days and then circle back with them.

Deer went through, elk did not.

Interesting... You guys that are getting PP emails, were those apps for PP only, or are you expecting PPs for not drawing? I put in for deer and moose PPs only (no draw apps) and haven't gotten any emails or correspondence from CO this morning.

My application was for points only this year.

I received 2 emails... both for elk. The first one said Not successful / Preference Point / $3 charge. (and I only applied for points)

The 2nd one was in reference to my 2nd choice if not successful... which was an OTC Archery tag. That one had a charge for $661.

I applied for a muzzy deer tag and have received nothing yet. I checked my account and it looks like the deer draw is prob still pending.

I applied to Colorado DOW as a group with my son for preference points. He got an email stating he was unsuccesful and point was received, but online it doesn't show that. I apparenlty put in for points and a secondary OTC rifle bull tag, and it says I got point and the OTC 2nd Rifle Bull tag.

I don't recall putting in for that OTC tag, and really can't use it this year (no time off). Is there a way to not take that tag and still keep my point?

That's my plan too. Figured with their changes this year they were having technical issues. When I look at my points it doesn't look like the points from 2018 are in my account yet either, even though the emails came out. But I am glad they went away from paying full tag prices for point only applications.

TRUTH

The value of a point is about to plummet drastically. I think you will see point creep get so bad that some units (like our trophy unit) will be 20+ points easily. I won't be able to hunt by the time I would ever get that many. Starting the game at 35 years old, its nearly impossible for me to get ahead now that they changed it .

You might be right. I haven't given that angle any thought honestly. I will be curious to see if there is truly that big an influx of point only applicants. Without much thought and zero research I feel like the number of hunters deterred by the full price/refund process isn't super large if those same hunters can already afford the hunt when the time comes. Maybe this will allow people to build points and save money for the hunt, who otherwise wouldn't have bothered with points with the old system. Probably should consider nailing down my timeline for cashing in my points in case they do start losing value. Thanks for spurring me to think about it a little more in depth.

It is one aspect to consider, for sure. But there are multiple sides to any argument. Just don't look at the draw results today, and see something that draws around 10 points, and expect it to still draw at 10 points in 10 years.

I spoke with a local warden today, and he said they only saw an increase in applications of 25%- which is still significant, but not as much as they were expecting. I'm not sure if he meant for our units or state wide.

He also said they were considering raising the "fee" in the future to try and strike a balance. So it might be $10-15 next year instead of $3. I don't think that will have much impact.

I think you will continue to see a jump in applicants each year, as new kids become of age. Now, out-of-state parents can get their kids in the game for a couple of bucks, instead of loaning CO DOW $661 per person every year. I think it will be decidedly harder for my kids to draw.

Another option would be (if you can) to bank a couple hundred dollars each year and go with a guide. Then you know when yuh can hunt, instead of chasing a lottery you may never catch.

That said- I'm not discouraging anyone from jumping in and buying points. The more people interested in hunting, the better! Especially kids!!!!

Just got a follow up email from CO. The email was sent out in error and it appears everything is taken care of with regards to elk preference point.
