Tried to get my size online a couple times. On a whim I checked the Lubbock store and scored a set.
In the kids section of the bargain cave.

What are the monetary requirements to just collect a point in Wyoming?

Started building points for elk/deer/antelope in WY and CO last year. Adding AZ and Utah this year, trying to point out how much less $ all these points are compared to a Texas deer lease to the wife but I guess I'm a bad explainer. Also I think goHunt has surpassed Texags as my primary timewaster.

Colorado elk first rifle (as second choice) is the plan this year. I have my eye on that January OTC archery deer hunt in AZ too though. Already had to buy the AZ license to get points anyway. Figure worst case if I can't thwack a deer I can bring a shotgun and smack some desert quail. Maybe drop a stink pig too.

Unfortunately that AZ license expires on 12/31. You'll have to buy a new one to hunt in January.

Other than that, I like your plans.

Edit: Check that. The license should be good for a year. I was thinking of the tags between the December and January deer seasons.

Right, be buying another one in 2019 for points anyway though.

And now I confused myself. I thought the license was valid for each calendar year, meaning if you hunted in the fall you'd have to buy a new license for January. But looking at my AZGFD account, my license I bought in February for the draw is good until February 2019, which should allow me to hunt in January 2019 without buying a new license.

Yes, $53... UNLESS you have a Colorado license (fishing, small game, or a big game tag) the previous year. In that case the cost of a preference point is $0. So It would just be $3/app + $10 habitat stamp.

You accumulate no more than 1 point per year. Your points are only cashed in if you draw your first choice. But your points don't count towards your 2nd choice, so you're not going to draw a multi-point unit on your 2nd choice. Some of the other guys on here have a lot more experience with 2nd/3rd choice hypotheticals because I've never gone beyond my 1st choice. All or nothing.
Here's a question for you. Let's say that I want to start building points in CO for Elk, Deer, and Antelope. Since I didn't have any type of license last year, I will owe the $133 this year. If I know for sure that I am only going to buy points again next year (I actually have a Wyoming elk hunt scheduled for 2019), should I buy a $56 license this year also? This way, next year, I can look at it as only having to pay the $56 +$13 = $69 for what I other wise would have paid $133 for next year? Or am I missing something?

Edit:
I actually just found this in the booklet as well.
". If you don't want to pay the fee, you have until March 31, 2018, to purchase a 2017 annual fishing, annual small game, annual resident combination fishing and small game, or resident senior fishing license. "

So it sounds like I can buy a $56 license for the 2017 season plus $10 stamp, and not have to pay the $120 for the three points?

Wish I'd read this closer before... I spent too much time just now deciding if I'd read the regs right, thinking that I'd seen something different here. Figure I'll start collecting points in CO and a couple other states this year.

Colorado draw, yes, buying a 2017 fishing lisence now did work to avoid paying the preference point fees for my daughter. She is away at school and hasn't been able to hunt lately. I want her to have enough points to draw when she is ready to hunt again, so I put her in for just points and I didn't get charged the fee.

Got NM in and points in CO. Expecting a baby in a couple weeks, so September is up in the air. I've got explicit written permission for one trip. We'll see how things are going before I petition for anything else.

Got everything submitted over the last few days. I'm narrowing my focus a bit this year. My main goal is to get my first mule deer buck (if I can draw a tag again- had to settle for putting an arrow in a doe last year, which was great), and to put another bull on the ground (either with the old smoke pole or stick-and-string).

I would like to get up after a Big Horn in the next couple of years. I really enjoyed the experience of tracking the herd and putting my buddy on one this past year, it was a TOUGH hunt. I can't decide if I want to save up for a decade+ and try for a ram, or just go ahead and hunt a ewe in the next year or two. The ram tags are just so hard to get. I know a guy who hit the ram lottery this year with 2 weighted points, while a couple other guys did not draw who all have 6+ weighted points. I'm not sure if I will be able to chase rams anymore by the time I get enough points!!!

I'm sure my mountain goat points will be nothing more than a fart in the wind, but might as well get them incase I ever do get serious about trying. I've got just the guide to take me if I do miraculously draw that some day.

Applied for:
CO - Muzzleloader Deer & Muzzleloader Elk
(will hunt archery elk if I don't draw)
- Big Horn Sheep point
- Mountain Goat point
- Antelope point

NM - Muzzleloader Elk in the Gila again
(drew this tag last year with my dad and got a nice 5x5, not expecting to hit again).

UT - PP's for everything.

NM - pronghorn, mule deer, aoudad, and elk rifle applications

CO - PP for sheep/goat so far, and will probably be putting in for PP for elk and deer, and a tag application for pronghorn

Probably going to put in for points in several other states.

There are places not too far from you where you will draw a ewe tag with 1 point. Some people draw with zero. If I was new to it, I'd kill a ewe then chase horn points. Only costs you a couple of years, and they are very good to eat. Expensive, but good.

Thats pretty much what I'm thinking. My buddy drew an ewe tag last year on his first try w/ no points. I'm not sure I will have time to do it this year (especially if I hit on one of the muzzleloader tags), so I thought I would just get the point and probably go for the ewe next year.

You can always turn tags in and get your points back, elk deer or sheep.

Did not know that...

So, to make sure I am reading this correctly- if I was to apply for an ewe tag and drew it, then decided I couldn't hunt, I could turn it back in for a point (assuming some sort of deadline)?
BradMtn346
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You get the points you had before the draw, but not the point you would've gotten had you been unsuccessful.

So to put it another way, if I draw a trophy elk and a goat in the same year, I'm turning in the elk, because it is based only on points, and hunting the goat. I will be able to hunt the elk next year.

Some of the female only goat tags are pretty easy to draw.

Non residents can draw a cow moose on a second choice.

awesome, thanks for the clarification!

There are times when I do miss living in Texas...

I need to look into the moose tag also, never thought of hunting a cow. I saw a few last summer.

Got Elk, Deer, Antelope, and Bighorn Points for CO

Going to start building points for a Montana Bighorn tag, not going to get my hopes up on that one any time soon.
