Yeah I had to leave Thursday to free up ramp space.

That whole show really messed my week up and I spent most of our time not flying either replanning with the army or trying to get a straight answer on when my 2 jets had to be gone

Looks like a tail rotor gearbox failure.

I don't have any direct experience with the Bell 222, but I think it has an outsize reputation for killing occupants.

tail rotor control linkage failure. Blancoliro showed a still photo of it hanging in the wind. Would have caused a huge vibration that ripped the tail rotor system apart. Killing the throttles and dropping the collective would have minimized the spinning, but it would have crashed no matter what considering the altitude, airspeed and obstacles. This might have been the best possible outcome since no one died. I hope all of the injured recover quickly and fully!

Thy stalled it about 5-10 feet off the ground so it just free fell the last few feet. Gonna be some back pain on that plane!

What did the paint job set you back?

Mine is still in pretty good shape but my brother's could sure use new paint.

Both of them are '67 F models.

Nice ride!

Was quoted $22k at Maxwell's in GGG. That is for redoing what you have, maybe a color change.

I went a "little" crazy, 4 color, new design, Imron Clearcoat Metallics, so $35k out the door. I just had it Ceramic coated last week, so a shade under $37k total.

Thanks for the information!

My brothers plane does already have a contemporary color scheme but whoever painted it did not properly prepare the surface so there is paint peeling and it looks bad in spots.

We will be dropping off his plane to Maxwell on Monday for his annual so I'll make a point to get a quote from them.

And then a plane landing at Newark scraped the top of a bakery truck and took out a light pole on landing.

Outside GGG this morning. These are owned by the guy that got ejected by his passenger after an afterburner failure in his Mig 23 flying over an airshow in Michigan a couple of years ago.

I didn't know he had two again. I think he began restoring his parts bird after the crash and must have recently acquired a new parts bird.

Also has an L39 in the hangar, but not pictured. That's the only one I've actually seen flying.

1,700 mph bomber, can't imagine the fuel burn.

Crash today in Miami.
Amazon prime jet went past the runway on landing, across a highway and into a field it sounds like. Some fatalities.

Attended the airshow at Branson MO today.
Hung out with fellow Col's of the Missouri Wing of the CAF and the B-25J "Show Me".
The Air Force Thunderbirds were there as well.
Last year they had the Blue Angels. Of the many air shows I have attended with the CAF…..I have to say the Thunderbirds far out did the Blues today. And I've always felt the Blues were better. Thunderbirds held much tighter formations and put on a much better show today than what the Blues did last year.

Seems like they tried a go around late, bailed, and maybe made things worse.

I got to do something today I've always wanted to do, go on an aerobatic flight. My buddy's brother is an instructor and also competes. We went up in a Super Decathlon and it was amazing. I won't lie, I was definitely nervous, but the nerves settled after the first maneuver. I've been 200 mph in a car, and today I went 0 mph in an airplane! And backward! I'll definitely go do it again.

Some may remember my father (aggie1944) who passed away in 2016. Mom joined him last month.

In the process of clearing things out I ran across some pictures y'all might enjoy.

Dad always had a plane of some sort. His favorite was his V-tail bonanza. I flew with him all while growing up. Probably where my love of flying came from and the reason I pursed it professionally. For the most part he taught me how to fly.

The plane in these pictures are from his "Little Toot". A plane he built by himself by hand over a period of probably 12 years from nothing but blue prints.

I have a 12-year-old son interested in possibly getting his private license. How do I go about finding a good school for him to take his discovery flight with?

Have a 10 year old that's looking like he's in the same boat. Got him a really cool flight simulator set-up for his birthday. Also, any good recommendation for some sort of AI type software to start practicing communications? I'm in Houston, so I suppose our answers may vary.

We got my son a stick and pedals for his Xbox, along with MS Flight Simulator, for Christmas. He's been working through all the training modules and enjoying it. Good question on the communications.

I got my ticket back in 1986 from an older retired military flight instructor at New Braunfels Texas.
Myself and my dad were heavily involved in the then called Confederate Air Force.
All the guys that flew with the CAF I knew really stressed for me to find a flight instructor who had some age and wasn't being a CFI just to build time to advance his career.
It was difficult for me to find the guy I did. He was actually an ATP instructor on multi engine ratings for guys transitioning out of the Air Force to get their rating.
He would do a few single engine private pilot instructions per year.
He was one tough instructor (still thought he was in the military) but, if you could put up with him, you would come out a better pilot for it.
Hope this helps.

There's an app called Plane English that I've heard many influencers pitch but I've never used it myself
