Thanks for looking and tolerating my photos. Final five of the "Switzerland of America" area around Ouray and Ridgeway. Had a blast on the trip, and enjoyed sharing with you.

Neat little town, the jeep capitol of Colorado, and scenes from John Wayne's True Grit were filmed in the courthouse.

West of Ridgeway, and just east of the True Grit "Ross Homestead" in the "Roadside Oddities" version of my photos, the 'Last Dollar Ranch'. I believe those mountains in the background are the same ones you see in the final scene of John Wayne's True Grit. Doesn't look much like Arkansas, does it?

And the owner is apparently down to his last dollar, as it's for sale.

Speaking of money, do you ever wonder what rich people do with the money you spend with them? Well, if you've ever bought "Polo" brand or anything from Ralph Lauren, Ralph would like to say "thanks".

Just outside of Ouray you can take Engineers Pass which will eventually lead you into Lake City, CO. This is where my in-laws own a few acres of land and have a couple of cabins. Lake City is located in Hinsdale County which is the most remote county in the Continental U.S. Beautiful country up there and I really enoy taking my daughter and showing off nature in it's purist form

Also, if you're ever roughing it in the Ouray area tent camping, and want some nice facilities to clean up at, Ridgeway state park is great. Also good fishing there in the park.

Thanks tbone. I love photography, love showing off my limited skills.

And I also think it's a great thing for folks to share their trip pictures and other inside information. When you do a huge road trip like this one was, you really have to pick and choose what you spend time doing. Nothing is as frustrating as missing a great attraction just because you didn't read about it beforehand.

For example, there was an aviation museum in the town of Driggs, Idaho where we spent two nights. I didn't learn of it until we were home. Big disappointment.

Great pics (here and in the other threads).

I first visited Ouray in April of last year for a wedding. As soon as I got there I sent my wife a text telling her it had just moved to the top of our vacation spot. I showed her all my pics and she agreed. But somehow I find her planning a family vacation to Biloxi for this month? I don't get it.........

I am jealous of your trip good sir. Very jealous - would love to make a copycat style road trip with the girls one of these days.

The family have been going to Ouray every summer for the last 5 years. As mentioned above, it's great for 4x4 jeep touring and that Engineer Pass, and the whole Alpine Loop is really a neat thing to do. We always stop at Lake City to have lunch. Beautiful country up there.
