A few photos of our trip west of the Tetons. When we were there in late May, small grains of some kind, perhaps barley, were just coming up. And potatoes were being planted.
It appeared to us that all irrigation was from canals. And two extremes stood out. One was the rolling country around Driggs Idaho and similar places, and how they were farming slopes we would never farm in Texas. Yet they did not seem to have erosion problems. One surmises that they don't get the heavy summer rains we do. Maybe all their moisture comes in winter snows.
Second is how places like NW of Arco, they were farming flat out deserts. Amazing what you can do with enough water.
We were also impressed at how farmers could pay attention to their farms, with some of the magnificent scenery in the background.
Our biggest photography failure was not getting pics of potato planting. The planters looked like this photo from the web:
And we loved the brand name of some of them: "Spudnik". So here's an old potato shed
