CR he might be a little less on the mass, not much, but he has atleast 5 inches more spread and atleast 3 in per side more on beam lenght. That makes him right at 170......

My horse is starting to get tired of being beat here. But, he has stamina.

Why solicit peoples' opinions if you're going to completely disregard what they say?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
The whole point was to post pics of a good deer to get everyone excited about the upcoming season. i had no intention of disregarding what you guys would say until you starting coming up with 145".

Look bozo. A f****** G4 is a G4 period. If you don't have the damn sense to add your scores up right it ain't my fault but you are apparently an idiot. I understand EVERYTHING about scoring but thank you for playing. If that deer is 170 my dick is 24"

MA, do you really think Colt doesn't know what a G4 is? Seriously. Do you?

If you look at is again you will see that it is not a true drop tine. it looks as though the buck might have injured his antler during velvet and caused it to point down instead of up.

You guys are getting a little fired up here. Argue all you want but no need for *'s.

I'm not sure colt knows anything about scoring a deer or what tines are what. It is an abnormal point not a G4. Call it what it is or lose what little credibility you might have had.

Now see Master this was all in good fun until you went off and did that. I hate Aggie on Aggie hate. I guess you feel like a real man behind that computer. Because of this you will now challenge me to a face off of deer scoring. dumb ass

Master Aggie I just wanted to say thank you for adding nothing of any value to the this thread. I went back and looked and all you have done is mock. So for that sir I say "Thank You".

That is because it is so easy to do when presented such nonsense.

I'm just glad this got back on the topic of arguing about something that can't even be verified. I was afraid ya'll were going to start trying to "score" Milton Berle's dong.

Well...I'll weigh in just to be on the record. I'd feel pretty confident calling him at 158". I've been fooled a few times, but you learn to score when hunter's pay by what the guide scores the deer. Mass and main beams truly are the most difficult part of accurately scoring a deer on the hoof. I had scored the 10 pointer posted above at 153", but the mass measurement threw me off by almost 5 inches.

Nonetheless, nice deer with a great drop/abnormal point (we would call it a drop in northern Webb County).

all I have ever said was that it was less than 170 and that I think it is between 158-165...that's it.

That 206" that LD shot was not near Choke Canyon.

Okay, instead of working i put together this little picture. As most of you know in south texas the average deer ear length is 6" and the eye would give you a circumference of about 4.5". now granted I have never actually measured an ear or and eye. I took the length of the ear and laid it across the spread and you can see it is at least 26"(4 and a 1/2 ear widths). I took the eye measurement and the bases are at least 6 2/8" (or 1 and a 1/2 eyes). Also i took the eye and applied it to the last point where you would measure mass and it is still at least 4.5" (1 eye width). so the arguement of he doesn't carry mass or he is only 22" wide is thrown out. Now do you really think this deer has 23" beams if his spread is 26"?

Based upon my calculations and the fact that this buck was able to grow a handlebar mustache and a goatee...I'd score him a solid 180.

RB - now go back and use your guesstimate of 6" bar to check the tine lengths. I do not see a 10" tine on this deer. The G3 on the deer's left main beam is pushing 9" maybe. Let us know what you get for each tine...
RBoutdoors
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i thought of that, but it is pretty difficult to measure a curved object with a straight line.
12thManStrength

i'll take a shot at it...

LF antler:

G1: 4"
G2: 8"
G3: 9"
G4/E1: 6.5"
MB: 25"
H1: 6.25"
H2: 5"
H3: 4"
H4: 4"

RT antler:

G1: 3"
G2: 6"
G3: 7.5"
G4/E1: 5.5"
MB: 25"
H1: 6.25"
H2: 5"
H3: 4"
H4: 4"

In. spread 26"

164" is the guestimate based on your 6" rule. This is giving you 25" beams and mass that is absolutely maxed out. There is no way IMHO that deer as 6.25" bases.

I originally thought he was mid 150's but i will say after all this i believe he is about 158"-161". It is a good deer and hopefully he is still around for yall to take.

Colt and RB, how do you guys know each other? Same lease? Brothers? It's like you 2 vs the world on this deer and ya'll are both hell bent that the thing is way more than what it actually is. Just curious.

RB,

I'd say mid 160's. He ahs good mass, nice spread and his tines are longer than most give credit for, so again I would say mid 160's gross.

Damn nice buck.

To back up Brently and the rest of China. This sounds just about like Tilden, the way you score those deer when you want to shoot one. Turn that 140 class 3 1/2 year old 10, into a 7 1/2 170 class 8pt that will be eaten by cyotes come nightfall. It must feel bad to know you spent all that money on feed and the best you produced was a 150 class buck that hit his horn on the feeder and grew a drop tine. Too bad it won't have it next year and you wont even realize it is him when you shoot it as a management buck for having short tines.

Okay I went back and measured the tines on this deer. I cut the known 6" guess into small peices and placed them around each tine.

here is what I came up with.

G1 - 4.92
G2 - 8.2
G3 - 9
G4 - 5.3
H1 - 6
H2 - 5
H3 - 4
H4 - 4
MB - 25

G1 - 4.9
G2 - 9.8
G3 - 11.5
G4/E1 - 8.2
H1 - 6
H2 - 5
H3 - 4
H4 - 4
MB - 25

Inside Spread - 26"

For a grand total of 175". Now if there is a 5% error either way that is 8" up or down. giving us a range of 167-183.

Take it for what it is.

You keep saying 6 inches. His ears are not broadside so they are not truly 6 inches in the picture. Calculate it with 5.5 or probably closer to 5 and see what you come up with. I bet upper 150's
RBoutdoors
How long do you want to ignore this user?
you are kidding right. if you look i choose his right ear and actually added a little bit for error.
RBoutdoors
How long do you want to ignore this user?
also 5.5" would fall into the 8% error that i calculated earlier.

I am not trying to make this deer grow. I am just trying to prove a point.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Neither ear is pointed perpendicular to the camera. You cannot base every tine's length and the width of that deer off of a 6" ear measurement!

why is this the best picture you have of this deer if it has been seen by a lot of different people and it walked under Colt's stand?? Seems like there would be some better pictures or at least some video footage not taken through binoculars.
