Tell it to rewrite without using the prompt in the first paragraph.

I think these AI engines are going to displace a lot of what we use today in a fairly short period of time. We went from Motorola Razr type phones to iPhones in what, 5ish years? Or maybe a better example is what Google search did to the internet.

Ok, so in talking to it, I've found a large amount of non-factual bias that's been trained into the system - I don't understand why it had to give the bolded-italic part of this. This is SCARY agenda stuff. It goes from fact to interjecting the liberal agenda.

QUESTION : What's the difference between biological gender and gender identity

Quote:

Biological gender and gender identity are two related but distinct concepts. Biological gender refers to the sex assigned to an individual at birth, based on their physical characteristics, such as their chromosomes, hormones, and reproductive organs. In most cases, an individual's biological gender is either male or female.

Gender identity, on the other hand, refers to an individual's internal sense of their own gender. It is an inherent and deeply personal aspect of an individual's identity, and it may or may not align with their biological gender. An individual's gender identity may be the same as their biological gender, or it may be different. For example, a person who is assigned male at birth may identify as a woman, or a person who is assigned female at birth may identify as non-binary or genderqueer.

In other words, biological gender is a physical characteristic that is determined by an individual's biology, whereas gender identity is an individual's internal sense of self. It is important to recognize and respect the individuality and diversity of gender identities, and to use language that is inclusive and non-binary.

And this...

QUESTION : What is a woman?

Quote:

A woman is an adult human female. This term is commonly used to refer to individuals who are biologically female, meaning that they have female reproductive organs and are capable of becoming pregnant and giving birth. However, it is important to recognize that not all individuals who are assigned female at birth identify as women, and that gender identity is a complex and deeply personal experience that cannot be solely determined by biological factors.

In some cases, the term "woman" may be used to refer to individuals who identify as female, regardless of their biological sex. This usage recognizes the diversity of gender identities and the importance of using language that is inclusive and respectful of all individuals. It is important to be mindful of an individual's preferred pronouns and gender identity, and to use language that is appropriate and respectful.

Agree. Prior to Google some of the leading websites like Yahoo were trying to categorize the internet and the primitive search was more like going to a card catalog in an old library than what google is today.

Google was a quantum leap at the time and turned the browser wars on their head by making search king. This chat bot feels the same way.

It's pretty dumb and tried to tell me it was Jimmy Carter that cancelled the Shuttle Program and advocated for the SLS rocket, but there is no denying its potential. AI is ushering in a whole new world.

I was skeptical of the talk 5 years ago that AI was going to replace a large portion of white collar jobs but I see it now. Even advanced jobs like NASA flight controllers can probably start being replaced within a decade.

That's one of the big problems with AI. It has the capability of displacing vast amounts of what humans do, and replaces it with the biases of its developer. We thought oligarchs were bad before. Now their brains are amplified a billion times.

Hmm, sounds like your prompt engineering game is a bit weak. Sure, a lot of times the essays seem very middle schoolish, but you can definitely guide it to dive deeper into the specifics and get it to a pretty high quality. But r yeah, there are times that it will very confidently give you wrong answers, so got to be mindful of that and verify the details.

It's interesting because it's using predictive text to form sentences rather than trying to find the best answer based on resources. Sometimes it guesses wrong and (confidently) continues the narrative based on that assumption.

People are talking about GPT 4 though like it's a quantum leap into the future.

Finally got in. This thing is pretty awesome.

I asked it to write a song about Super Mario. This is scarily good.

Verse 1:
I'm jumping on goombas, dodging piranha plants
I'm saving the princess, it's my duty and chance
I'm Super Mario, hero of the land
With my trusty mushroom, I'll make a stand

Chorus:
Super Mario, Super Mario
Jumping, running, saving the day
Super Mario, Super Mario
Gotta rescue the princess, come what may

Verse 2:
I'm shooting fireballs, collecting coins too
I'm defeating Bowser, he knows what to do
I'm Super Mario, a plumber by trade
With my lucky star, I'll never fade

Chorus:
Super Mario, Super Mario
Jumping, running, saving the day
Super Mario, Super Mario
Gotta rescue the princess, come what may

Bridge:
I'm climbing up towers, stomping on foes
I'm flying with wings, soaring through the skies
I'm Super Mario, the one and only
With my determination, I'll win the game

Chorus:
Super Mario, Super Mario
Jumping, running, saving the day
Super Mario, Super Mario
Gotta rescue the princess, come what may

Die Hard is a classic action film that takes place on Christmas Eve, but it is not considered a Christmas movie by many people. The film focuses on the character John McClane and his efforts to save his wife and others who have been taken hostage by a group of criminals. While the setting of the film is Christmas, the main focus of the story is not on the holiday itself, but rather on the action and suspense of the plot. Some people may consider Die Hard to be a Christmas movie because of its setting, but it is ultimately up to individual interpretation.

I played around quite a bit with different prompts, refining the prompt in subsequent attempts, etc. It's not at that level yet.

There's a significant difference between what it does (which is still very impressive) and original thought. Any upper-level college course (and certainly any PhD program) will require works of original scholarship. That means that you can't just regurgitate what is out there. You have to take what is out there and shape/craft a unique argument. The bot is a long way from being able to do that. Even if I give it the "takeaway" that I want the paper to have - it struggles to connect that to the broader topic in anything but the most general/descriptive language.

Don't get me wrong, the results are still impressive. And they might be enough to convince a layperson that the bot (or a person reading from the bot's script) knew what they were talking about. But if you are actually involved in the field - the bot isn't there yet.

It's use of quotes is haphazard - it struggles to identify what the most relevant items to quote are and whether those quotes are truly in line with the argument it is putting forward. I asked it to include data - it included some data, but hardly gave enough context to make that data's inclusion worthwhile. It seems to know that it should use quotes/data when asked, but fundamentally doesn't understand how to incorporate those into its writing. It also does only the most fundamental quote blending - "So and so said 'blah blah blah.'" I doubt it is capable of more - prompting it to only rewrite/blend the quotations doesn't produce any results of note.

I have yet to see it put together a paragraph with more than three sentences in it. It makes fundamental mistakes from time to time - such as identifying a court case that was decided by the European Court of Human Rights as being a case that was decided by a Constitutional Court of a member state of the EU. That's in addition to the times when it is "confidently wrong" in the conclusions it makes, as you noted.

Do I think you could use this to summarize a lot of things and provide a high-level overview? Sure. This could generate Wikipedia articles in a flash (with the drawback that the articles wouldn't have any cited sources). Could you use this in any sort of serious academic writing? No.

Knowing nothing about being lawyer besides what I see on TV, I'd expect most lawyering to be closer to your first example rather than your second. What does this thing cost? Probably less than $600 an hour.

I expect there will always be a need for humans to interact with clients, patients, etc. To try and deal with a liar, a half truth, the real story, the unspoken, etc. But then the research and paperwork side of a lot of white collar jobs could probably be farmed out to AI.

Most doctors when not doing something with their hands are really just walking databases of symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment. Something AI can do, and probably should. The hard part is getting those symptoms and delivering the treatment reliably. Not sure you need a full up medical degree to do that. Everytime I go to the doctor, a nurse does that stuff anyways.

Anyone that spends most of their day looking at spreadsheets are replaced probably pretty easily.

Your are kind of moving the goal post. Your original quote:
Quote:

but it showed a level of research and comprehension of the topic that shouldn't earn a high school student a passing grade

I agree that we are still a ways away from having it include original thought into the essay's. That is more AGI which would also include the ability to extend modern physics and math. With that being said, you could still have this inject original thought via prompts and connect it with the broader subject. Do I think this could write a PhD paper, no way. Do I think it could significantly aide the writing of one, absolutely. Do I think it could write a lower-level college essay? Absolutely, while not blindly but with prompts and just a little bit of injection.

Also, you can simply tell it to make body paragraphs roughly 5 sentences long.

But just with the small amount that I have played with it (and mostly for programming), if I wanted it to write an essay for me, I would do the following:

prompt 1 abbreviated: Give me an outline for an essay on blah blah, with give 20 points to support the argument.
prompt 2 abbreviated: Write a 2,000 word essay using points 2, 4 and 7 from the outline above. In the body paragraph using point 4, combine it with point 12 from the outline.
prompt 3 abbreviated: In body paragraph 3, can you write it from the perspective of someone who has the opinion that "blah blah blah"
prompt 4 abbreviated: Can you rewrite the essay in the writing style of J. K. Rowling

Now, I am just sh*tposting here, but I imagine that after spending the 5 minutes it took to the above, you will have a pretty decent essay that might need a little tweaking. As an engineering student that hated writing papers, this would have been a godsend.

In my experience it's really good at giving Wikipedia level summaries of topics but really struggles with application of problem solving skills (even if you give it a problem that doesn't require outside data to solve).

I asked it a problem about the Weibull distribution where the answer is literally on the Wikipedia page for it and it kept telling me it couldn't answer the question because beta is a stock market term and has nothing to do with the Weibull distribution. So it is advanced and pretty awesome. But it is much farther from taking peoples jobs than you would think.

One other note on the coding - the hard part of coding has always been the pseudo coding needed to write the real code. We just don't realize this because the real code writing requires us to tap our memory and syntax things perfectly which we are bad at. But once you have the pseudo code (essentially the prompt refining), the rest should be easy.

Also, I've had a really hard time asking for code from ChatGPT because so much of the code details are context dependent in the tasks I'm doing. Like without feeding it a sample of the databases I'm working with and defining the fields, it's hard to ask it a meaningful question.

I think at the college level there is some concern. As for high school, I think it will be pretty easy to spot ChatGPT essays vs. authentic ones. Most high school students aren't writing at that level and in the same/similar voice of ChatGPT (Former high school teacher)

Does ChatGPT provide sources for what it produces? That could be another way to combat the use of it in academic work.

Ultimately, it just means a shift in how we view assignments and academic work. Students are always a step ahead when it comes to cheating. It just means educators need to adapt and find new ways to discourage it.

Ted Lasso: write an email that all employees should be on time

ChatGPT: Subject: Importance of being on time
Dear all,
I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of the importance of being on time to work.
As you know, being on time is a crucial aspect of being a responsible and reliable employee. It shows respect for your colleagues and the company, as well as a commitment to getting the job done.
In addition, being on time ensures that we can all work together effectively and efficiently. When one person is late, it can have a ripple effect on the entire team.
I know that sometimes unexpected things come up, but I encourage you to plan ahead and do your best to be on time. If you know that you will be late for any reason, please let your manager or supervisor know as soon as possible.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Let's all work together to ensure that we are consistently on time and able to meet our goals and deadlines.

write a news article about David Hasselhoff and KITT running for president and vice president

In a shocking turn of events, entertainment icon David Hasselhoff and his iconic car KITT from the hit television series "Knight Rider" have announced their candidacy for the presidency and vice presidency of the United States.
The news, which was announced at a press conference on Tuesday, has sent shockwaves through the political world and has sparked a heated debate about the qualifications and capabilities of celebrities running for office.
Hasselhoff, who is best known for his roles in "Baywatch" and "Knight Rider", has been a household name for decades and has a large fan base. KITT, his artificially intelligent car, has also been a pop culture icon since the show first aired in 1982.
The duo has stated that they are running on a platform of "modernizing the government and making it more efficient" and "using technology to solve the country's problems." They have also promised to bring a new level of entertainment and excitement to the political arena.
Critics have been quick to point out that Hasselhoff and KITT have no political experience, and that the candidacy is nothing more than a publicity stunt. However, Hasselhoff and KITT have stated that they are serious about their campaign and that they are ready to take on the challenges of the presidency and the vice presidency.
The campaign team for the pair has yet to announce any specific policies or plans. But they are sure to be a wildcard in the presidential race, bringing a new level of entertainment and excitement to the election season.
It remains to be seen whether Hasselhoff and KITT's campaign will gain traction, but one thing is for sure, it will be an interesting and unique race. The country will have to wait and see if the dynamic duo will make it to the white house.
