I was looking forward to this, but personally I don't like that there's no actual physical disk version, I know I'm in the minority but I still like to buy physical media.

And there seems to be a lot of content locked behind the $100 version.

My gaming backlog is big enough I'll probably wait for a sale on this one.

They edited the error in your link where they removed "no physical disc." I think it is a disc, with the download code to allow preload. A physical version is one with a disc, by definition.

Quote:

Players who pre-order digital versions of Grand Theft Auto VI will be able to begin pre-loading on November 12, 2026 to ensure they are able to play at launch on November 19, 2026. The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading.

Resale. I bought COD 6, played it some. Didn't love it and sold it. Can't resale a digital copy or download code.

Agree. I could see buying a game early a couple days before it releases to preload (and AFTER the review embargo is up). Anyone preordering GTA6, a digital only game, 6 months before it's release date isn't working with a full deck.

X-Rays show that you have a stick in the ass

Maybe the person wants to pay now while they are thinking about it. Maybe the person wants to help Rockstar Games' cash flow ahead of the release. Maybe pre-ordering now gives them hope that one day they might actually get to play the game in their lifetime. People pay a lot more "pre-ordering" a November crotch kick by Aggie Football (what gullible dumbasses)

I pre-order games I know I'm going to get that are low-risk of disappointing.

Generally, they have pre-order perks (content, skins, free month of online service in the case of GTA+, or early access), and secondly, it allows me to pre-load the game without worrying about it.

Sure, I won't pre-order a game I'm on the fence about, but come on, this is GTA6.

Yup... it's still GTA and that won't change until Rockstar completely craps the bed (which they have yet to do).

I understand the concern that "modern developers" have invaded Rockstar too... but so far the trailers in both quality and content appear to be in line with what we expect from the next GTA. We will see come November, but so far it looks like they all understood the assignment.

Rockstar hasn't done anything, yet, to make me think they have completely bought into the woke enough to let it ruin their games. RD2 came out in 2018, at the height of woke, and it wasn't. They are one of those few studios who has earned the good faith of gamers and not done anything to lose it.

This will be a day one purchase for me, unless I start hearing something insane coming from the early access guys on YouTube.

2018 was definitely not peak woke and RDR2 was started sometime around 2012. It's yet to be seen if Rockstar has been changed in meaningful ways but there is reason to have some concern considering the guy that was the main writer and creator for all of their best games in recent history (Dan Houser) left after RDR2.

I've been disappointed with Rockstar's path largely since GTAV when they realized they could milk GTA Online in lieu of providing meaningful single player content. RDR and GTA IV had amazing DLC but they figured they can make more money off of Shark cards in GTA online and scrapped all future single player content expansions.

My point still remains. They haven't done anything yet. If they do something whacky with GTA6, I'll be one of the vocal dissenters. Until then, i'm not getting worked up.

As for GTA Online vs single player, that doesn't bother me too much. The nature of GTA isn't an RPG, so I really just play the story and then call it. I'm not looking for an in-depth, decade long supported RPG like CD Projekt Red does.

Physical media is practically pointless these days when there are gigantic day 1 patches.

I know we're talking about video games here and a lot of games do have day 1 patches, but there's still some games that you can play without a day 1 patch.

There's definitely reason to still buy physical media:

The physical media doods buying up old game consoles and carts like you can just play on your computer.

I'm cracking up, with all these videos of so call gamers talking about how bad GTA 6 is going to be. It's all click bait and horrible takes.

I'm waiting till December to buy the game since I have half the month off. No need to buy it now since its digital download only.

I simply don't understand this. It's such inconsequential money but maybe I'm out of touch.

The hassle factor of getting in my car and wasting the gas to go to GameStop to resell it costs more than the money I would earn from the resale.

I buy game online, play it, and then delete it. For 15+ years now. Maybe longer.

I was never able to get into GTA V. Liked all the earlier ones, but V just didn't click. Can't remember why because that was so long ago. Actually so long ago that I remember it being a midnight release and there being a line at GameStop for it. Pretty sure it was the last midnight release I remember.

Will wait for reviews on this one. Speaking of which, have they released any actual gameplay from it yet or was it just the trailers.

I would give it another shot. I started it several years ago and wasn't into it. Picked it up again last year and it's pretty awesome. Trevor Philips needs to be experienced. Maybe one of the best characters ever in a video game. Totally wheels off chaos.

That's boring, I enjoy playing games several times, especially when the story line can be changed based on how you want it to end. GTA. Fallout, Red Dead, Far Cry, Wasteland, Mass Effort are just a few examples.

I'm a massive replay guy, but generally because I tend to play RPG's.

The number of different save files I have across all my Bethesda and FromSoft games is a little ridiculous. Hell, I'm on my 4th replay of Cyberpunk, at least.

Now, how many of those replays do I actually end up completing? That's very rare and only really applies to FromSoft games.

Meh. Can't usually change it enough that I don't have to click through a bunch of the same dialogue again, already know all of the puzzles, etc. That sounds boring as hell to me.

No thanks.

That's one thing that's beneficial about having a terrible memory like I do. Play an awesome game. Let it sit for 2-3 years and go back and play it again and it's almost a brand new experience.

Was coming sooner or later. PC has been all digital for, what, 15+ years now I think.

It appears that 85-90% of console gamers are buying digital games now. It doesn't make sense (from a business perspective) to keep supporting physical media.

Especially when the physical media doesn't truly mean anything down the road. They can just take the game away from you.

I get the re-sale argument, but that's not that much money made back.
Fenrir

I'm not against digital entirely by any means. Physical is basically pointless for online only games. However, I do like physical for some games that I know I come back to. I've got the ability to digitize my PS4 library. I'm pretty sure half of the games I've been playing on PS5 are just PS4 games released for PS5 (this is kind of a **** console generation).

Sony is pretty anti-consumer with their digital storefront though. They've completely walled it off. You cannot buy game codes from third parties and haven't been able to for a long time. You have to buy it through Sony and their sales suck in comparison to what you can get on PC . If this is the route they are planning on going I doubt I'll be buying any future Sony consoles. Their first party output really isn't moving the needle for me anymore anyway, at least not enough to buy some overpriced console that requires a subscription service to play any online games and has abysmal sales.

I stopped re-selling games to GameStop and instead starting putting them on Facebook marketplace and was usually able to make a decent % back from games I stopped playing.

The other piece of this was my brother and I buy some of the same games, but also will buy different games and trade them back and forth. It's a nice way to experience a variety of games I may not have bought otherwise.

Also right now you can look at multiple places to find a game - PSN, Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, Walmart, Facebook marketplace, etc. You have options for where to buy and because of that you might be able to find a game on sale or discounted at one place. This is going to all but eliminate that.

What will be interesting will be if the PS6 has a disk drive or not. Will current ps5 physical games then be completely useless?

It won't. See announcement above. That's a telegraph it won't have one. Maybe you can pay extra for one like with PC, but that's doubtful too.

I guess I just don't understand the dismay over this when it comes to discounts / pricing.

Steam sales make PC gaming absurdly low cost.

The PS Plus sub is a phenomenal deal. I think I'm paying about $12 per month to play the PS catalog plus whatever new games are on it which are dozens with 4-6 new games added every month. And many of them are premium titles.

It's never been this cheap to game and all without physical media and people are worried sick about the resale value of an old game. To me, it's stepping over a quarter to get a dime.

Again, I may be completely out of touch with the common man on this but the PS Plus sub is the best deal going for console gaming.

Granted, if Xbox goes under then PS could raise prices being the only game in town.

The last physical PC game I bought was Skyrim... at launch. And I remember calling around to every Gamestop and finding a couple left at the Gamestop at Golden Triangle Mall in Denton. Put it on hold and picked it up.

Thank God I never have to worry about getting a copy of a game, anymore. I love getting digital copies so I can play them immediately and not take up any space.
