The marketing on this game (or lack thereof) is both ballsy and brilliant! Zero announcements, zero trailers... just BAM, here it is, free to play, enjoy!

If they had announced this back at E3 I most likely would have brushed it off with little interest in another free to play battle royale game. Instead, it caught me completely off guard and I wanted to be one of the first to try it out!

The key for a game like this is a large initial player base and streamers... with this marketing approach I think they achieved both. Well played Respawn!

It sounds like this game was dropped earlier than planned in order to soften the blow for EA's earnings call. They could point to this as their big BR play to offset their otherwise pretty terrible last quarter.

This sounds pretty plausible. With Battlefront 2 and for the most part BF5 being flops they have to be hurting.

Not gonna lie. I'm a huge, dedicated fan of Titanfall and loved the sequel. Not only would I rather have Titanfall 3, but to learn it's not even in development? Kinda pissed. BR is a fad.

A 'fad' that has been played for the last FIVE years starting with H1Z1 to PUBG and now <insert name>?

Having played pubg (pre-COD) and blackout religiously I'm glad this game came out. It's pretty unique and seems to have a lot of potential.. Send me an invite if y'all want to squad up on xbox.

This game is nuts, but I'm getting better. Got a couple wins last night and had some success this morning. I'm getting at least 2 or 3 kills most games now. The hardest part of the learning curve is remembering how vertical the gameplay can be and utilizing your characters abilities.

Here is a bullet point list of things that I think are helpful, feel free to correct me if my thinking is wrong:

  • Early in the game team members need to find and give Accelerant to the Lifeline Legend. Can get a couple supply drops in the first few minutes this way which usually have at least one purple item.
  • Always stick together, but be liberally spread out. I've noticed death usually occurs when we are grouped fairly tight and the other team is spread out. With heavy shields it's very easy for one enemy to draw the fire of our entire team while the other 2 easily pick us off from different directions.
  • Escape... there are a lot of escape routes in this game. I personally need to learn when it's time to bail out and regroup. In most cases if they see you and engage while you are clueless, it's probably time to think of an exit strategy if possible.
  • Combo Abilities. This is the advance strategy that is difficult right now. A good example is using Bangalore to pop smoke on an enemy and then have the Bloodhound reveal them in the cloud with his ability.
  • Stick and Move: Staying in a large open area and fighting for more than a minute or two is usually a bad idea. If the other team is dug in and it's mostly a stale mate, it's time to move on because more often than not another team is more than happy to come in from the other direction and pick off everybody. In the same way, after wiping out a squad, loot quickly and GTFO... defeat typically follows a victory if you linger.

Those are a few of my early thoughts. The key is actually doing the right thing once the bullets start flying.

We got out first victory by using the beacons that pathfinder can activate. It reveals the next circle location. We were able to stay in circle and get the high ground just waiting for the last team.

I just got my first kill on my 5th round of playing, haha. I'm playing on Xbox, gamertag dre98 if anyone wants to party up. First time playing a BR game so I'm still getting used to it.

While I can see this being fun it is frustrating alone and still don't think battle royal games are my cup of tea. Might just continue to goof around on it while I wait on anthem.

My buddy and I have won 20+ games so far, and I'd say the most important thing is just getting fluid with the movement. A lot of teams I fight just stand still and huddle together. I run Bangalore, and when you get shot at, she runs much faster. I take that as an opportunity to hit the opposing team with a quick flank from the side while my teammate holds them down from the front. I almost always get at least two before ( and if) I go down, and it's an easy cleanup for my teammate.

Get good at sliding, learn how to spread out and flank fast to confuse them. It's much easier to dismantle a team in 3v3 games like this. Try to keep an R301 or R99 for up close battles, spitfire is best for long range on console imo. Ditch the peacekeeper after the initial battles, as people get higher tier armor, it becomes useless late game.

Here's what I need to know:

How do you stay in the game after a victory so that you squad shows up as The Champions for the next round? The few games I've won I've always had at least one random person in our squad and at the end of the game, even victories, it goes back to the lobby. What gives?

Also, is there a quick and easy way to stay with a team of randoms after a game? Again, it always goes back to the lobby and because we weren't a team to start I'm again in a solo party. Can it be done in-game or do you have to use the xbox live tools to find previous players, invite, etc.

Got my first two wins last night! A friend and I couldn't find a third, but got a random teammate who immediately invited us to a chat party (Xbox). We proceeded to win that round, so we kept the team together for the rest of the night. Towards the end we won again. Now here's the weird part: At the end of both wins, we took shelter in the exact same room! That's some weird ring behavior.

Played 17 games total. Won the first 7, lost the next, then won 2, then lost another 2, then won 2. Finished with 3 losses after that. You don't have to believe it if you don't want to.

I think if you are with a skilled console group I could see it happening. PC might be a different story unless you are crazy good.

It's doable on console if you have 2 or 3 good fps players. It's a new game and most people just don't know how to play situations right now. This game rewards skill a lot as long as you get out of spawn with decent stuff, but I expect it to get much harder to do what we did last night as people get better. Like I said in my post above, movement is everything. Bangalore smokes and wraith portals are super useful.

It's definitely doable. My squad went on a 10 game streak friday. Told ourselves at midnight we'd get off after the next loss. Next thing we know it's 3 AM and we still hadn't lost yet. Decided to call it a night and then woke up the next morning and went back to back wins again.

We just had another six in a row right now as well. We play pretty aggressive and have just been steamrolling people. The scout/R301 combo is nuts and we all pretty much roll with that. Squad composition is typically wraith, lifeline, and gibraltar.

Other PC players feel free to add me at FoggyFoggyFoggy. Even if you're totally ass I can guarantee you we'll get some wins. My brother and I have had wins while having random thirds that finish with literally zero damage done.

Really enjoying the game and getting better. Not dominating, but getting wins here and there and starting to rack up the kills. Most of the people I play with are average skill and we have a good time.

good stuff. I also liked your comment about this game begging for custom key binds. I can't imagine playing this on a console. Few more additional thoughts/Q's:

  • After a firefight - instead of charging your shield, take an downed enemies. Saves time and battery cells
  • What's the point of a finisher? I don't see any real payoff, and you're completely vulnerable for 3-5 seconds. Is this the games version of tea-bagging?

One another note guise - I'VE WON 13 GAMES IN A ROW, BEAT THAT

Only point I can see is that when you have the legendary shields, it fully recharges them. That's pretty sweet.
Also, ammo is relatively scarce in the game so i guess it saves it.

I didn't know that about legendary shields - I guess those are yellow? I've only gotten purp helms/chests. I'll have to look that up, thanks.

About 80% of the time I'll get punched out rather than shot while I'm downed.

Got my first win last night. Probably not a coincidence that I was playing with 2 friends and not randoms. We rain with Bangalore, Wraith, and the Healer.

We're not great shooters, but we've figured out how to survive long enough to have a fighting chance. We had a ton of top 5 finishes but only the 1 win. It's definitely a fun time. XBL gamertag: dre98

I've added everyone on this thread who's posted their Xbox GT to my friends list.

When I'm looking for someone, I send out an LFG post. It briefly pings your friends list and tells them you're looking for more players for whatever game. The interface isn't great, but it works.

I'm playing almost every night right now.

One interesting piece of advice I saw today: If you're playing this game like I play, to survive as long as possible, you don't get into much combat. Consequently you don't get much practice with combat, and few chances to improve. If you want to proactively improve at the skill you need to come in first and not second, you should spend some time dropping into hot zones and seek out combat instead of shunning it. You might lose a lot earlier in rounds than you would otherwise, but that combat experience has got to pay off in the long run.

Got a win last night where I was the stud completely carrying my team. And when I say carry, I mean that my two teammates had 0 kills... one had dealt 16 damage & the other had dealt 52 damage. They barely even breathed on the enemies but we still won.

Their biggest contribution was doing a good job of not dying and drawing enemy fire while I used wraith to flank.
