Did we confirm what the 2024 pick was? I have read reports that it was the Cleveland pick
The Texans are giving up...

1) the 2nd-best player still left on the board
2) Possibly Caleb Williams or Drake Maye. Maybe Marvin Harrison Jr. or Brock Bowers.
3) and a R3 / R4 swap
...just to move up 9 spots in Round 1.
This was a HORRIFIC trade.https://t.co/N94EAMy0li

I'm sure those teams were looking to move up. Also, I think people need to realize that the trade happened very quickly, so I'm betting once they heard that Arizona was looking o-line, they went ahead and got this trade in place the moment they picked CJ. Personally, I have this as a trade up for CJ and not Anderson. They just took CJ because if they took Anderson at #2 the cost to move back up would have sky rocketed up with 2 QBs that teams wanted still available. Plus with Arizona wanting OT, that means the Texans still might have had a chance to grab Anderson with trading up to 4th (if Indy traded up) or 6th if they were outbid to Arizona. But there was no chance they would have been able to get CJ if they passed on him at #2 without giving up a crazy fortune.Texan_Aggie said:
Agree. Hitting on a QB and/or edge can fix a lot of holes on both sides of the ball.
There's also an argument that we win for losing. If we didn't trade up, Tennessee and/or Indy might have
This is important perspective. We gave up a lot to get what should be elite talent but we also had a lot to give up. You stack draft capital so you package it and get these kind of players.coastalAg said:
Just a reminder, the Texans still have 10 picks left in this draft. They will add two more players tonight early in the third round and will start day 3 off with the 2nd and 3rd picks in the 4th round. That is if they don't use some of that capital to move up.
They also still have 10 picks in next year's draft. From 2022-2024 they will add somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 players to the roster via the draft.
This was an aggressive trade, but they havent mortgaged anything.
Agree, and I admit I had some sticker shock when the trade was made, but after that wore off I'm pretty good with the trade. I'm also betting that we use one of the 3rds mixed in with 1 or 2 later round picks to move back up into the 2ndcoastalAg said:

Says the guy who told me Levis was going #1 overall.Lake08 said:
So instead of trading down and upgrading your roster, you now give up a ton. And btw, look who still is on the board. Idiots, just idiots

Well here's the argument that it's not horrible...
33 is not a 1st. It helps your argument so you include it but it's a 2nd rounder.
And a bunch of possibly and maybes being thrown around.
Reality is they filled their 2 biggest needs with 2 top end talents that are ready to contribute ASAP.
I have definitely run through these scenarios. Stroud + Gonzalez/Van Ness + Mayer would look nice. So would Anderson + Gonzalez + Levis/Hooker.Ranger222 said:
33 could end up being Mayer, Branch or Porter Jr. Could have also been used on one of the top centers. While nothing is certain, that's an additional starter or at least significant snap contributor.
You also gave up a Top 15 player in next year's daft that would have been a starter/contributor.
If you consider 12 + 33 + next year's 1 to be significant contributors, you traded three players for one with a roster that is in the bottom third of the league (and that's being generous).
Anderson may end up being a Pro Bowl player or All Pro, but he needs to be with the package that was given up. Consensus was coming in while we was a top player in the draft, he was not on the level of a Myles Garrett or Bosa brothers, and that's a problem.
Only time will tell if Anderson > than Van Ness + Mayer/Schmitz/Tippmann/Porter Jr + Texans 2024 1st now owned by the Cardinals
He's talking about Levis? Wow, the fact that no one jumped back into the 1st round to take him should show that every team thinks he's a big time project, because every team passed on the opportunity to keep him on a rookie contract for 5 years.Harry Dunne said:Says the guy who told me Levis was going #1 overall.Lake08 said:

Actually, most people really love the move. A lot (like me) were just caught up in sticker shock at the beginning.texasaggie2015 said:
I'm genuinely surprised how many people don't like the move. I love it. It's nice being aggressive for once and taking a big swing.

From the Aggie Football forum Young vs. Stroud thread. I bumped it there, for your viewing pleasure...Lake08 said:Harry Dunne said:Says the guy who told me Levis was going #1 overall.Lake08 said:

Huh? Show me where I EVER said that

This. Use the 2nd or 3rd round pick on a QB. There isn't a no-doubt QB out there, so roll the dice on Hooker or Levis and choose difference-makers in the first round.
Levis in the 2nd or 3rd??? Um, you realize he could go #1 overall

What Vegas odds had Levis as the favorite to go #1?
Young was the overwhelming betting favorite for awhile.
Things that never happened for $100 Alex.Quote:
All I said was that some experts had Levi's going 1. Vegas odds even said that.

Heard a good interview with Caserio this morning where he said (paraphrasing) the Jimmy Johnson chart is great in a vacuum where the players are hypothetical and we're talking about general "value", but when you are actually there with not just a value but a specific player up for grabs & you believe a guy can be a difference maker, you go get him.
In other words if you think a guy is the next JJ Watt, you're OK giving up a lot for him.
I have no idea whether it was a good trade or not. I feel good about the concept of letting the guy you hired because you thought he was great do his job and make a move to get a star and attempt to fill two very important positions in which we have dire need for game changers. In the end it all comes down to whether Caserio is good at his job or not, and only time will tell. But IMO you brought the man here because you believed in him, so let him do his job.
Reports started coming out an hour or two before the draft that the Cards had an agreement in place for trading the 3rd pick. I'd bet this has been under discussion for a little bitIrishAg said:

Yeah, if it wasn't clear, that's what I meant, it happened very quickly so the framework of it was probably already defined. People keep putting conference calls on a Friday morning, and I'm writing things between and during themBowSowy said:Reports started coming out an hour or two before the draft that the Cards had an agreement in place for trading the 3rd pick.
