Did we confirm what the 2024 pick was? I have read reports that it was the Cleveland pick

"It's an important distinction that the Texans sent the Cardinals their own first-round pick in 2024, a person with knowledge of the terms said, and held on to the final first-rounder acquired from the Browns. They are essentially betting on themselves, believing their record will not have them picking in the top three again for the third straight season."

"The Texans still own the Cleveland Browns' 2024 first-round pick from last year's Deshaun Watson trade."

This is how I feel.

Full disclosure, I am one of the fans who completely lost interest because or the organizational dysfunction over the past few years.

The combination of new coach and two top picks had me wanting to come back. Stupid **** like this just shows me how incompetent the leadership of the organization really is. Stroud and Anderson are great players…. but they don't make us a contender. We have so many more holes to fill and the combination everything we had in the next two drafts is what was going to start to build the foundation. We couldn't afford to trade 3* first rounders (I'm counting 33 as one) for just one pick.

Or if we did, it needed to be a generational QB. Not an edge rusher with a really high floor.

Well here's the argument that it's not horrible...

33 is not a 1st. It helps your argument so you include it but it's a 2nd rounder.

And a bunch of possibly and maybes being thrown around.

Reality is they filled their 2 biggest needs with 2 top end talents that are ready to contribute ASAP.

Agree. Hitting on a QB and/or edge can fix a lot of holes on both sides of the ball.

There's also an argument that we win for losing. If we didn't trade up, Tennessee and/or Indy might have

Will Anderson is a premium prospect with an almost universal top 3 grade, so if we can speculate on 2024 picks by name, then we can refer to Anderson by name and not just as an Edge.

How many reports were there about how shallow the pool of elite prospects and even first round prospects are in this draft. The 3 vs the 12 has more value in this draft than others. The 33 vs the 65 and the 73 they have in the third may not have much additional value.

Calling a second round pick, basically a first round pick, especially in this draft is just fitting the narrative to your viewpoint.

There are way too many fantasy nerds turned draft experts on Twitter these days.

Fact, we have Anderson. Player many considered the top player in this years draft.

Hypothetical, Texans being in position to draft the top player or top 3 player next year. I think this argument for not liking the trade is fruitless bc as I pointed out, there's a great chance that would not be an option next year.
Ag_07

And at the end of the day it's drafting. Everyone wants to look at it and evaluate it using certainties when in reality there are no certainties.

Stroud could be a complete and utter bust of shlt show QB, but so could Young. Hell every pick the Texans make this year could be a bust. BoB actually accomplished this a couple years which is actually quite impressive.

The best you can do is look at your needs and find a way to get the best player to fill those needs. I feel like that's what they did.

I'm sure those teams were looking to move up. Also, I think people need to realize that the trade happened very quickly, so I'm betting once they heard that Arizona was looking o-line, they went ahead and got this trade in place the moment they picked CJ. Personally, I have this as a trade up for CJ and not Anderson. They just took CJ because if they took Anderson at #2 the cost to move back up would have sky rocketed up with 2 QBs that teams wanted still available. Plus with Arizona wanting OT, that means the Texans still might have had a chance to grab Anderson with trading up to 4th (if Indy traded up) or 6th if they were outbid to Arizona. But there was no chance they would have been able to get CJ if they passed on him at #2 without giving up a crazy fortune.

Just a reminder, the Texans still have 10 picks left in this draft. They will add two more players tonight early in the third round and will start day 3 off with the 2nd and 3rd picks in the 4th round. That is if they don't use some of that capital to move up.

They also still have 10 picks in next year's draft. From 2022-2024 they will add somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 players to the roster via the draft.

This was an aggressive trade, but they havent mortgaged anything.

The Texans have two 3's and two 4's as well as six picks over 5-7. If they don't move into the second you still have a chance at a lot of decent talent.

For everyone crapping on the trade, they got 2 of the top 5 players in the draft vs getting 1 of the top players and other guys you didn't have as high a grade on.

If they actually get 12 drafted players, you get everything y'all are whining about.

This is important perspective. We gave up a lot to get what should be elite talent but we also had a lot to give up. You stack draft capital so you package it and get these kind of players.

33 could end up being Mayer, Branch or Porter Jr. Could have also been used on one of the top centers. While nothing is certain, that's an additional starter or at least significant snap contributor.

You also gave up a Top 15 player in next year's daft that would have been a starter/contributor.

If you consider 12 + 33 + next year's 1 to be significant contributors, you traded three players for one with a roster that is in the bottom third of the league (and that's being generous).

Anderson may end up being a Pro Bowl player or All Pro, but he needs to be with the package that was given up. Consensus was coming in while we was a top player in the draft, he was not on the level of a Myles Garrett or Bosa brothers, and that's a problem.

Only time will tell if Anderson > than Van Ness + Mayer/Schmitz/Tippmann/Porter Jr + Texans 2024 1st now owned by the Cardinals

So instead of trading down and upgrading your roster, you now give up a ton. And btw, look who still is on the board. Idiots, just idiots

Agree, and I admit I had some sticker shock when the trade was made, but after that wore off I'm pretty good with the trade. I'm also betting that we use one of the 3rds mixed in with 1 or 2 later round picks to move back up into the 2nd

I have definitely run through these scenarios. Stroud + Gonzalez/Van Ness + Mayer would look nice. So would Anderson + Gonzalez + Levis/Hooker.

I am also justifying the risk some because I am a fan who is tired of being miserable. They have at least made a statement that they want to win and Demeco has two foundational players to groom.

He's talking about Levis? Wow, the fact that no one jumped back into the 1st round to take him should show that every team thinks he's a big time project, because every team passed on the opportunity to keep him on a rookie contract for 5 years.

Heard a good interview with Caserio this morning where he said (paraphrasing) the Jimmy Johnson chart is great in a vacuum where the players are hypothetical and we're talking about general "value", but when you are actually there with not just a value but a specific player up for grabs & you believe a guy can be a difference maker, you go get him.

In other words if you think a guy is the next JJ Watt, you're OK giving up a lot for him.

I have no idea whether it was a good trade or not. I feel good about the concept of letting the guy you hired because you thought he was great do his job and make a move to get a star and attempt to fill two very important positions in which we have dire need for game changers. In the end it all comes down to whether Caserio is good at his job or not, and only time will tell. But IMO you brought the man here because you believed in him, so let him do his job.

This. Use the 2nd or 3rd round pick on a QB. There isn't a no-doubt QB out there, so roll the dice on Hooker or Levis and choose difference-makers in the first round.

Levis in the 2nd or 3rd??? Um, you realize he could go #1 overall

Can you read? All I said was that some experts had Levi's going 1. Vegas odds even said that. I never said he was going 1.

What Vegas odds had Levis as the favorite to go #1?

Young was the overwhelming betting favorite for awhile.

Levis odds went from like +2500 to +500 in about 30 minutes a couple days ago…which never happens. And you are correct on Young for the last couple weeks. He was odds on favorite for 1

Levis was never the favorite, not even close.

The odds dropped like that because someone on Redditt posted Levis was telling everyone he already had a deal with the Panthers.

I've talked myself into the trade up and I'm very satisfied with it now. I think a lot of people probably felt that 2nd rounder was a bitter pill to swallow… but the chances of getting a real difference maker at 3 are vastly higher than 12 and 33 (and require you to hit both to probably make up for what that 3rd pick can bring)

So, I was kind of surprised when looking at the difference between Nick Bosa and Will Anderson when they were drafted. The biggest physical difference is that Nick was 13 pounds heavier than Anderson.

Bosa is a little taller (1/2 inch taller)
Bosa is 13 pounds heavier
Anderson has a little bit longer arms (by 7/8 of an inch)
Anderson is little faster in the 40 at 0.19 seconds (4.79 for Bosa and 4.6 for Anderson)
Bosa is a little fast in the 10 yard split by 0.06 (1.55 vs 1.61)

For some reason with all the random talk about Wilson being more along the ideal size for DeMeco than anderson, I never really went and compared Anderson and Bosa. So again, I was surprised that they're close on measurements.

Yeah, if it wasn't clear, that's what I meant, it happened very quickly so the framework of it was probably already defined. People keep putting conference calls on a Friday morning, and I'm writing things between and during them
