I'm slow to pay any attention here but, they need to draft every oline man and d lineman, safety, corner and Lb they can for the next 3 drafts. If they don't do that: clown show confirmed.

Your threshold for clown show confirmance is much higher than mine.

You're right. I'm giving them too much slack.

My clown show: confirmed.

The chances of competing without a good to great qb are slim. Some believe in drafting a qb every year until you find one that sticks.

Does anyone actually do this though? No one springs to mind. And even if you draft one every year, that's only part of it. There's only so many reps in practice. And there's even less reps with the first team. At some point, you gotta say "this is our guy" and give him the lion's share of the touches to see if he pans out. And this usually takes a year or so.

IMO, Mills has his rookie season to convince the Texans not to take a QB with their first pick next year. Which I very seriously doubt he will be able to do. If they do use their No. 1 pick next year on a QB, it will take more will power than the texans have ever shown to keep it a level competition. The No. 1 pick will clearly be given the advantage by virtue of his draft position.

Because of this, the odds of Mills being given a fair shot to develop here are extremely low, IMO. And that's why I think it was a terrible pick, regardless of your thoughts on Mills (who I've admittedly never seen play).

Maybe not every year, but every other year for sure. Also, there's a good chance Mills was going to be one of the top QB prospects next year because right now, the options don't look that great. Not saying I like the pick, but there's a real possibility a QB isn't the right pick next year too.

Everybody getting too hung up on what top end QBs are available in the draft next year. Remember, we were possibly very close to getting Tua from Miami. Who's to say the same situation doesn't happen next year, with the possibility to get a Tua-like former 1st rounder that just isn't clicking for some team? Daniel Jones? Drew Lock? They aren't lighting the world on fire, but they're not with very good teams either.

Heck, you never know. Maybe Kliff and Kyler get sideways out in AZ, and he wants to come back to Texas. Surely we can't get fleeced again by that organization.

Will Cal McNair go down as the worst owner of Houston pro teams??
Until he moves the franchise to another state, he can't ever top Bud Adams.

Until he takes a **** on the team's most iconic franchise players because he's a cheapskate, he can't top John McMullen.

Until he decides to completely scrap the team's budget for scouting and player development in order to save money, dooming the franchise to its worst four-year stretch in a 60-year history, he can't top Drayon McLane.

It would not surprise me to see the Texans take another QB with their next pick.

I could see this team trading for Lock and I don't mean that as a compliment.

Can't we just trade for his girlfriend?

Always need to be 6 deep at TE everyone knows that. I'm sure that ass defense will improve on its own

Because it's not a premier position, tight ends are always available a round or so later than their "grade." Feels like the Texans fall for this every year.

Well to be fair this guy can play all of the receiver positions too. But to be fair to you we just took a big receiver 2 rounds earlier so why take another one

I'd be interested in whether a team has ever finished bottom 3 in team defense and then not selected a defensive player in the first 5 rounds of the draft. Has to be a record. Maybe they can hang a banner......

They had 3 6ths so I am assuming they packaged some or all of them.

Edit - they kept their first 6th but traded the 2nd and 3rd ones.

How the hell does this GM make the same dumbs move as the last GM they just fired who made the same dumb moves as the previous GM they fired who made the same dumb moves as very first GM that they fired?
MaxPower

It's fair value, just odd they didn't wait to see if their guy was available rather than waiting 10 picks. Must like 3 or 4 guys they don't think last until they pick in the 6th.

Agree - that being said, the TV is soooo far behind with picks. They get called in really quick right now so there is a chance the pick has already been made.

Next pick needs to be a long snapper or a blocking back to really cement this draft class.

Drayton comments are not fair. Yes it ended poorly but there were plenty of highs as well. Lots of playoff appearances and the first pennant. He also was the force behind the new ballpark.

Much more good than bad.

He fell in love with trying to stay relevant and destroyed the farm to do it. Signed and traded for way to many guys that didn't win anything and left the cupboard bare.

You're absolutely right. Cal on the other hand allowed BoB to do pretty much the same, now here we are.

Yes he paid the price for trying to hang on too long but it's not correct to say they didn't win anything. They lost the WS in four one run games. Sucks but they were in back to back LCS and played in a crazy tough division with the Cards and even Cubs also good back then.

Drayton brought good baseball and fun times back to Houston. I'm not saying he was great and the way he left things was bad but he was an above average owner and doesn't belong in the same category as the others. He was widely more successful than McNair.
