That still doesn't make sense, since that would mean you are throwing in the season. If that's the case you have your top pick next year, and you can probably get the top QB next year. There isn't really a logical reason to take the 7th QB in the draft as your first pick. Take the best talent available that could potentially start.

So as of this morning, the latest I was hearing is Watson will play for the Texans this coming year after serving a possible suspension then be traded next year. Play nice this year with the organization, let things die down and maximize what you can get for him.

So the Mills pick might fall in line with this.

Honestly, interesting pick with all the uncertainty

Hard to understand.

If you're not going to stick with Waton, either trade him before the draft or make it look like you're sticking with him for leverage. Now, you've burned all of your leverage, as everyone knows you're moving on.

There's also the wrinkle that they will easily be one of the worst teams in the league next year. Gonna pass on a top 5 QB next year because of a 3rd rounder you picked this year? Or are they gonna pick a QB in the 1st next year and throw this pick away? Gonna be one or the other.

I think at worst he's a competent back up and at best he's capable of being a starter. Mills is not bad, he just doesn't have a lot of experience. Maybe you catch lightning in a bottle, don't know.

one issue with Watson playing half a season in 2021...

the Texans might win too many games to have a top 5 pick.

that's not the plan for the upcoming season

He played all 16 games this past year and they won 4. I don't think you have to worry about killing our draft stock if he plays in 8.

The problem is, it's virtually impossible for you to know that by next draft, which is when you'll likely have the no. 1 pick. And if you use the no. 1 pick on a QB, Mills is done.

Only reason you make that pick is if you flip the dude in a trade with a team who was unable to move up to get him who really wanted him.... besides that this is a ****y pick. Below average backup qb's can be signed as free agents off the street. Texans need warm bodies at all the other positions on the field

The problem is they're more than just a QB away. Why not just ride with Tyrod or any other scrub and not waste the pick. Use it on someone who could actually help fill a hole.

What's ironic is we already signed the average backup QB in Tyrod Taylor. This pick makes absolutely no sense unless you think everyone else missed on evaluating Mills, even though apparently the Texans never bothered to evaluate or talk to him.

Good lord, I just had a small tiny bit of hope left, and that was stupid of me to let it form as they stomped on it again.
