Less than 35-40 seconds, I can buy the spike. But not with 49 seconds. That is very premature, and we saw exactly why. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to foresee exactly what happened as a very real possibility - not converting a 1st in 2 plays and leaving the hottest qb in the league a lot of time (and 2 TO's) while only needing a FG.
Something similar to quick play they ran on 2nd should have been dialed up and ready. This is an NFL team running a 2-minute drill. Not that hard to get a quick play off and give yourself a chance to gain more yards with only taking 5-7 more seconds.
