I didn't like the play-calling a bit. Elliott was not used near enough and they got too pass-happy.

Have dak, Zeke, and the oline. Need someone that can rush the passer.

It's like a Russel Wilson type rookie season. We'll be alright.

JG didn't distinguish himself tonight. But the spike might have been something that Dak did on his own. I didn't like the call. But it wasn't brain dead decision, it was borderline.

Linehan really lost the plot for awhile. He was scared to run. Why we decided to showcase Butler is beyond me. We've done fine with Dez, T-Will, Witten, Beasley all year. And Green Bay couldn't cover any of them. But the play calling was dreadful. The interception was dumbest play all year. The pass on 3rd and 2 on first drive was dumb. We could have sent a message by smashing it.

Frankly, Marinelli was in over his head for first half. It took way too long to start going chest to chest with receivers. And it was obvious that defensive line could do nothing. He finally tightened the coverage and started sending blitzers and it was effective.

You just can't spot a team 18 points that early. There were about 10 big mistakes in this game. Cowboys made eight of them.

They didn't use zeke enough.

You have the best offensive line and running back in the league.

I saw many 3rd and 2's in this game and the Cowboys passed in seemingly every one of them. Many of them were in packers territory, just line it up and run twice and if they stop you then give them credit.

Our coaching staff and offensive game plan sucked.
Only 22 carries and 1 pass reception. Averaged almost 6ypc..insane

Playcalling in the first half was bad, and even bad in the second, honestly. Cowboys will be alright.

That's a great point about Butler. That missed touchdown because of his alligator arms almost caused my eyeballs to explode. An NFL receiver short-arming a playoff touchdown - he may never get another chance.

Agree on all of your points above. Horrible play-calling and use of Elliott. Didn't mix it up and try any other backs either to throw some surprise at GB. Defense needs a lot of work to get to and win a Super Bowl.

Yes, but it was equally bad in the first half and put the team in that situation to begin with. IMO, it was lost in the second half and could not be overcame in a playoff game of that magnitude. Nearly pulled it off, but you just can't show up playing like that.

Yep. If they would just use Zeke the way they should, it might be a win. Zeke couldn't be stopped.

The thought process a few years ago was that taking OC duties away from Garrett would allow him to be a better in-game manager. Nothing has changed. He still is absolutely brainless when it comes to managing a clock. Spiking on 1st down was brainless. Throwing on 3rd down was nearly as bad.

This game drew even in the 4th quarter because the Cowboys superior talent eventually weighed in. This coaching staff is brainless when it comes to game-planning.
I would say it's more that they go away from the game plan when things get hairy.

The formula all year was Zeke or play action boot on 1st down. Then more zeke. Keeping the defense off balance with balance and killing the clock. It looked like a machine. That's great game planning considering your personnel. The shotgun was used for misdirection, 2 min offense or, an occasional change of pace play call.

Against the Giants and some of the other close games, Linehan couldn't help himself. He reverts to his shotgun wide open passing game. Like the drive that ended with 3 straight passes to JW in the endzone. Zeke wasn't even an option. That drive started with 4+ minutes left.

You don't wan't to get into a score fest with Green Bay while Rogers is hot. Hell, even when he isn't on his game you avoid that scenario. The Cowboys lost because they didn't control the clock. They got into an all out basketball on grass with the wrong team. They made too many mistakes because of it.

This was a game where you knew you had to keep Rodgers off the field, but they chose to go away from Zeke in some key situations in the first half. Killer.

I'd be more willing to call this a great game if the first half hadn't gone down the way it did.

We did put Dunbar in in the red zone from time to time, but I don't think you even needed to put other backs in. Literally needed to just keep calling plays for him, they never stopped him.

A couple co-workers made a big deal of scheduling Feb 6 (or whatever that Monday is) as vacation to celebrate. Now I wish I wasn't on vacation timorrow!! LOL.

I was more annoyed with the defensive game plan than the offensive.

I also feel like the substitution hijinks (15 yd. penalty, 5 yd. penalty and two burned timeouts on defense) cost this team at least 7-10 points.
DannyDuberstein
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The substitution issues bothered me as much or more than anything. It just screamed that they weren't prepared for what Rodgers likes to do. And the Butler thing was just sloppy.

The first one didn't cost them a TO. It was a penalty and extended GB's 1st drive after they didn't convert 3rd down - a drive where the 2nd chance resulted in a TD

Agree, being down 21-3 midway through the second quarter totally changed the offensive game plan. We had to get points quickly and not spend time grinding out first downs

Yep. I don't get it. Any of you who coach football -- can you chime in on why you wouldn't run Zeke a lot more than they did? It was 6+ yards a pop and running clock and keeping Rodgers on the sideline.

Blew the entire season. Now you have to worry about injuries and/or losing players to free-agency (Romo is likely gone so if Prescott gets hurt you are gonna be stuck with Sanchez), etc. etc. for next year. Team was relatively healthy.

Nothing is a given in that league -- and I never assume anything with the GM and HC the Cowboys have. They have a way of screwing up seasons. This one was poorly coached and game-planned for, IMO.

I grew up (and now live) in Mason Crosby's hometown... two thoughts:

1. I guarantee you that not a single person from my high school has done anything of note in the NFL other than Crosby... so friggin glad he has to screw my team with two 50+ yard field goals in under 2:00.

2. My wife just informed me that she use to baby sit for that family and changed his diapers... I'm ashamed to admit I had the thought, "maybe if you'd accidentally dropped him back in the day none of this would have happened!". It was the briefest of thoughts, but I did think it.

Just saw the last throw of the game and I don't know what else the cowboys could have done, it seemed like it was just GB day today, that said I hope Atlanta wipes that stupid smirk of Rodgers face next week. I have never liked him since his crybaby days at Cal when he cried they got the inferior bowl opponent instead of the rose bowl in 2004 and then tceh beat him and his crybaby post game, eff him

Clue that it was their game - when Rodgers fumbled into the back of his player and it popped into the RB's hands.

Hanging onto the ball when Heath lit him up was a bad break too.

Bad way to end an unexpected 13-3 season.

Draft pass rushers/FA pass rush, CBs.

Long time to wait for next season.

That must be reverse karma for their infamous 4th and 20 play under Sherman

He built a team that went 13-3 with a rookie QB and looks pretty stout in the future too...he has turned around his GM abilities

As a neutral I have to say that was a hell of a game. Once GB got ahead and neutralized Elliot I thought Prescott would be exposed. Instead he put them on his back and carried them all day. This one is on Garrett and clock management.
Too bad for the Cowboys this season will overshadow what a subpar coach he is. He's good for another year.
