Hochul giving the presser now announcing this.
Indeed these boys and that school are screwed. She is going in hard at the locals as well.
Essentially she is giving the verdicts across the board assessing the girls story as fact, the accused are guilty, the school and the local PD / DA covered it all up.
Question overall is why is this blowing up like this? What's the political angle here? Hochul afraid she going to lose to Bruce? They distracting from something else coming down the road?
Edit: The first question from the press was asking how they can affirm the accusers statements as facts without a full investigation. And why Big Tish did the same online. Her response was that she has faith in Tish. Next question.
Forget about the big elephant in the middle of the room. Pay no attention.
Let me ask you this. Do you believe that the State Law in NY that allows the victim being too drunk to refuse from being raped means open season? Should this law be changed?
Or, is someone who is too drunk from knowing what's going on just someone you shouldn't have sex with?
And, just a little secret, just because someone says they believe someone's story does not mean that they are saying that it is 100% factual, only that they believe that person should be heard. Kinda like believing they're eating cats and dogs in Ohio.
Why don't you want her to tell her story?
It's important to look at those stories and what we know. It's also important that we look at the situation objectively because if we don't we will look up and "rape" will lose all meaning just like "racist" and "sexist" have and that would be horrible for society. Rape is completely unacceptable and anyone who engages in it should be held to account but it also can't be thrown about casually because it is such a powerful accusation.
All we have heard is her story and how she kept changing it. One thing is very clear, she was far more concerned about the consequences to her reputation and how the women in her sorority were treating her for the idea of willingly having a sex party at a frat house than anything else. I have no doubt she was a damaged girl who had low self esteem and was taken advantage of but that's not illegal. What it is is a girl who is insecure and wanted attention and acceptance (as most girls do) and she made a terrible series of decisions that resulted in consequences she didn't want to face.
She had 3 choices at that point and she went through all 3 based on her text messages afterwards. One, she could embrace being the campus hoe and act like she was empowered by doing what she did. This was her first response and it was clear the other girls (esp in her sorority) were not cool with that. Then she tried to hope it would all just go away and ignore it which actually may have worked somewhat (she clearly tried this as well) but she would have had to stick to it and deal with some level of consequences but she wasn't strong enough to do that. So she went with choice 3, she was assaulted. By going with choice 3 all of the other women who were shaming her now would defend her and blame the men. She got tons of attention and sympathy. Nothing was her fault. There were also lots of women who were more than happy to now use her to push their own agendas against men and frats and the school and whatever else. It's not like anyone wants to stand up and say what she did was her fault or that it was acceptable so this was by far the best option.
This isn't new and yet people are acting outraged. Similar (not as dramatic) stuff happened at A&M back when I was in school. Girls get drunk/high and do things they regret. If you have a society that allows women freedom and doesn't require chaperones or restrictions on their behavior some will make very bad choices. So you can either choose to live with that as a consequence or you can take away those freedoms. What is wrong is to give them the freedom and absolve them of responsibility.
BTW, this isn't saying the guys were innocent either. There were some bad dudes taking advantage of a girl and that's terrible. Still she was willing and everyone was drunk and the reality is that random sex effects men differently than women because of how it impacts them emotionally. That's just biologic reality. I have 2 boys who I am confident wouldn't do this in the same situation. Boys aren't perfect though and make mistakes too. If you put a girl who is very willing to do wild porn style sex acts in front of them while they are drunk/high and horny not all of them will have the resolve to do the right thing. It's incredibly important to note that by every account she wasn't forced to do anything she didn't want to do and they stopped whenever she asked. The only things that happened that she didn't want were a few guys that touched her and she swatted away but she was encouraging other guys at the same time, it's not like this was some rational environment. Sounds like one guy slapped her butt and she had hickies but no way to know if she was into that in the moment. To make it even more complicated it is also clear that she had serious interest in at least 1 if not more of these guys afterwards and wanted to keep seeing them. Not sure how these guys were all supposed to figure out what she was ok with other than the "Well, no girl would want to do THAT" when the reality is some girls are willing to do some pretty disgusting stuff and some guys do too.
Such a mess and unfortunately there are no winners in this. The people who are most effected are actual rape victims btw and the next most are young men and women who are just trying to figure out what the rules are for sex and relationships in today's world.
