It's just frustrating to see the Texas GOP parade of crappy candidates who even Republicans have to hold their noses to vote for. Then we complain about crappy governance. Now we get a couple more months of reports on how close the race is and silence from Paxton because he's better of being quiet than actually running on his record, and having an R by his name means he won't have to do much campaigning.
Paxton isn't going to be quiet til Election Day but right now letting Talarico have as much airtime as he wants is his best campaign strategy. When people tell you who they are, listen. That's what Paxton is doing right now, letting Talarico tell us he's a communist with values that are antithetical to literally everything conservative Americans believe in. Let him get it all out there on tape then start spending money using his own words against him. When football season starts you'll start seeing Paxton start campaigning. Until then let Talarico keep telling voters who he is.
I understand what you're saying but it's not changing my mind that this is a poorly run campaign, at least so far.
Talarico isn't telling voters he's a communist. He's telling them he's a normal Texan that supports a secure border, great public schools, helped reduce property taxes, and is fighting for "affordability" but of course doesn't say how. Every one of these ads should be countered, mocked, and laughed at. Gayer Pee-Wee Herman is running the narrative right now.
Paxton has an unlikeable image working against him, fair or not. People are lazy. Some woman gets on the treadmill at Planet Fitness after work and sees those ads, probably knowing nothing about Talarico, makes up her mind on the spot, and tunes out until election day. That's the risk in play here. Well, he sure seems like a nice young man, better than that corrupt cheater Paxton.
Paxton doesn't have to have his face out there yet. Probably a good thing. But his surrogates should be hammering away. "Talarico says he did this, but here is what he really did" and show his voting record. "Talarico wants you to believe he's just a normal Texan but here are his real views" then clips of his commie weirdo sermons. I think waiting "until football is back on" is a terrible strategy. He's already down.
I hope you guys are right. I really do. But this is the most important Senate contest of the election. Losing this seat in Texas would be a superbowl win for the left. Having this little freak represent Texas in the Senate for at least six years would be an absolute disaster for the GOP nationally. It's symbolic more than anything. Turn the f'ing dogs loose.
