Sure, the messaging is more nuanced but he will get that more vanilla message out there. If anything it's easier in a general vs. ginning up support in a primary. (And Dems face the same problem in places like Michigan, with a real rookie).

Blacks staying at home is no problemo for Paxton (and might help with the re-drawn House districts in several places). The bigger question is going to be the hispanic trend lines state-wide. In the primary vs. Cornyn, he got around 52-55% I think. Trump won 55% state-wide in 2024 of those voters vs. Kamala, but I could see Paxton in the mid to low 40's, which will inevitably become the talking point for Dems if so.

Will a telarcco supporter explain what they like so much about this guy? Why is he the answer?

How are open borders going to help us with "affordability"? How is "equity" and villainizing "whiteness disease" going to work out for our kids and grandchildren?

For someone who votes against holding violent illegals, how is releasing them good for citizens? For someone who votes against banning wealth tax or a state income tax, how does that not lead to socialism?

They can't. They typically mention Paxton's adultery as a way to justify voting for talarico. They mention he's a Christian and that Paxton has bad character. By saying these things they're proving they're either incredibly naive or they're just spouting nonsense because they're leftists and want to win.

Adultery is one of God's ten Commandments and I would think that would have some importance to Christians. If Paxton can't be trusted in marriage, can he truly be trusted?

Paxton is a sinner like the rest of us.
We are all sinners. It's why Jesus died for us.

But there is a far harsher judgement for false preachers that lead you down the wrong path.
If you want to vote for Talarico, great. But he is leading thousands down the wrong path. The man is evil, he considers the Bible is propaganda, and has a number of views that are completely unbiblical and abhorrent.

They have been discussed ad nauseam in this thread.

I will admit that I am in a conundrum, I have issues with both candidates. I don't agree with many of the things that Talarico has said and I don't like the character issues of Paxton. Character issues weigh heavy on me, especially in marriage. My wife and I will be celebrating our 62nd anniversary this month and I believe adultery is a serious indicator of trust issues. I will just have to see how the campaign unfolds to come to a decision how to vote.

Congratulations on the 62 anniversary.
That is something we should all aspire to!

I have no conundrum whatsoever.
The old testament is replete of the One God obliterating nations that engaged in deviant practices, child sacrifice and idol worship. This is the anti-God leftist wing of the Democrat party. The biggest warnings in the New Testament are around false teachers. This is Talarico.

And i can't think of a single Talarico policy that i would support as a naturalized legal immigrant

The Bible is also replete with accounts of people who loved and honored God and were great leaders, but still struggled with adultery…sometimes excessively. Having a particular character flaw does not in any way disqualify somebody from being the better choice in political race if they have a history of supporting, for example, law and order over degeneracy and chaos. Everybody has personal struggles and sinful proclivities in their private lives, one way or another.

None of that is accurate. A long term rino incumbent is not easily defeated absent effective campaigning.

A primary campaign and a general election campaign are two very different things.

Please enlighten us all as to how the hundred million dollar primary was so different.

The main difference for the general this time is that Paxton is going to get more black voters than is normal for a GOP state-wide. It will be curious if he comes out with ads targeting this demo next month/October.

Because the messaging is different. In a primary, you have to convince the voters that you are more aligned with the party than the other guy. In the general, you have to convince the middle that your policies are better than the other guy. The "coming to the middle' for a general election is an actual thing. You still have to move to the middle somewhat.

I'm not convinced Paxton gets more of the black vote. They may just stay home.

So was the alternative to nominate Cornyn? The same people I hear argue for this, other than die hard RINO's, then turn around and complain non stop how bad Cornyn is. At some point you have to try something different when it has become clear your guy isn't actually who he claims to be.

Sure, it's fine to want to try something new. But when the "new" loses, you reap what you sow.
(FWIW, I don't think Talarico can win as of now. A lot still has to break his way, and he's going to need some luck.)

You ever looked upon another woman and dwelled on it a little too long? Yeah we'll hold everyone, including yourself, to the same standard if you are holding Paxton to that standard. Have you spoken against God's words and teachings? No, why? Maybe hold Talarico to that standard.

Right now the GOP is fractured over Paxton and Talarico may or may not have a black vote problem. Let's assume it's a wash there.

Are independents happy with the state of the economy? Are they seeing grocery prices go down? What does it look like at the kitchen table? If they're unhappy, do they go with Trump rubber stamp in Paxton or vote Talarico.

If they are happy with the economy, what motivates them? Social issues? Border issues? Does Paxton or Talarico solve those issues or has the economy made that decision for them?

Unless you are one of those liberal wackos that believes just looking at a woman constituents rape, I would say there is a significant amount of difference between looking a bit long and actually having sex with them.

My comment had nothing to do with rape. It was related to the word, "adultery", that the poster used and how that word is called out as sin both in the physical sense but also in the lustful heart sense. They are both adultery.

Those voting for the Democrats think they'll get a house for free, likely taken away from its current owner and given to them because they deserve it.

democrat "affordability" = free housing, free food, free healthcare, free everything for everyone because a benevolent government will just take more from the earners and "redistribute the wealth". It hasn't worked throughout history, but I'm sure it will work this time.

conservative "affordability" = cut government spending, cut off grant and entitlement fraud and abuse, cut regulations, cut taxes, drill baby drill.

people voting for democrats like telarco for "affordability" are just voting us into a socialism we will never be able to vote ourselves out of. tularicco voted against tax cuts, voted against a ban on wealth tax, voted against a ban on state income tax, serves as a "equity consultant" for socialist org. He's dangerous and his pandering to socialists about socialist causes and marxists tactics are who he is; not the lies you see in his commercial as he hops into a rented pickup truck at a grocery store.

Democrats attack Paxton for his character / personal life. Republicans say character does not matter, only voting record.

Republicans attack Platner for his character / personal life. Democrats say character does not matter, only voting record.

Which is why we are left to choose from the less @#$%n up candidates (in general) rather than someone with actual character and integrity. Nobody values character, so nobody we elect has character. All good.

Reading what free parts of silvers explanations, his model is sensitive to a couple of big factors- 1. Historical midterm performance. 2. Voter enthusiasm or lack thereof. 3. Presidential popularity.

So, incumbent parties don't do great at midterm elections, Republicans arent motivated whereas democrats are highly motivated, trump is not very popular, and more concerning, is losing popularity amongst his base. Those people aren't likely to vote for dems, they are just less likely to vote.

That said, the dems will lkely have to win the overall vote by 10% or more margins to take both chambers. Its already uphill sledding to win thr house with the district additions by republicans and they need 5 flips to control the senate, which will be a struggle

In a resurfaced clip of Talarico speaking on Texas Impact's "Weekly Witness" show in June 2023, he credited his faith for "why I am in politics." Asked how his faith influences his politics, Talarico pointed to examples of his church advancing progressive causes, saying, "Justice is just love out in public."

"Our church was really active in LGBTQ rights in the '90s. We caught some attention by letting an atheist join our church in the 2000s, and then in the 2010s, again stirred some controversy by housing an undocumented family, a mother and son, who were close to being deported by ICE," he said. "That was the tradition that I was brought up in. It's what led me to teach public school students on the west side of San Antonio, led me to run an education nonprofit and then led me to run for office."
