I would imagine it had to do with the fact this is a hotel, with many rooms that someone could stay in a week beforehand. Metal detectors likely had to be closer to the ballroom.

I don't think they had much physical space to work with. It's street, lobby, maybe a hallway, then I presume the ballroom itself. I doubt they closed the hotel completely too.

ETA: Just RTT's map above. Jeez. They had even less actual physical space to work with than I imagine. You aren't getting "multiple" rings of checkpoints with that.

we don't know the exact layout of the security and you are not making any sense. Let's see what comes out in the next few days. But magnetometers too far from the area you are looking to protect are not helpful.

Beats me. I don't know the security plan. Just saying the physical space they have available to actually work with and set up traditional security measures is pretty limited.
