Not a smart move by them. They've always had the unfair fire power advantage, That's fixing to flip.

This assumes they want help from the US military. They don't. They don't want to cutoff the money train.

They'll give up this guy but it's all performative. I'm sure the Mexican govt already has a deal made with the next guy.

How do people still not understand this?

There's always money. There's always people competing for it. If you **** up tourism then people who work for their earnings and rely on the tourists will be getting really mad

All U.S. government staff at Consulate General Tijuana and all U.S. government staff in Guerrero, Michoacan, and Quintana Roo states have been directed to shelter in place. All U.S. government staff at Consulate General Monterrey have been directed to remain in the Monterrey metropolitan area.

Actions to Take:
-Seek shelter and minimize unnecessary movements. Remain in your residences or hotels.
-Avoid areas around law enforcement activity.
-Be aware of your surroundings.
-Monitor local media for updates.
-Follow the directions of local authorities and in case of emergency, call 911.
-Avoid crowds.
-Keep family and friends advised of your location and well-being via phone, text, and social media.

I have a friend staying at a resort there and they are supposed to leave Tuesday. He sent me pictures this morning of the smoke. They are miles from downtown, but they were told they cannot leave the resort. I can't get in touch with him anymore.

Good Lord, I hope that Mariano is ok. That man worked just like a piston in an engine and only stopped to take a drink or smoke a cigarette.
Today, unfortunately, many Americans have good reason to fear that they will be victimized if they are unable to protect themselves. And today, no less than in 1791, the Second Amendment guarantees their right to do so. - Justice Samuel Alito 2022

El Mencho and his goons did awful things he deserved what happened to him. Also, El Mayo recently turned himself in as well. As a cartel boss you wind up dead or in a US supermax prison.

You're saying if the cartels mess with tourists the Mexican govt will shut down the cartels. Well they did today. And nothing will change.

Unfortunately, it is predictable. It is a show of force and you're going to have infighting as well. Surprised at the scale but am worried that other cartels will then have to show they have bigger huevos and they are better with better capabilities

I am not worried, cartels killing each other is good.

Well yeah, but if only it was that simple and limited

Yeah, I can see the cartels going to every hotel, particularly in resort areas, demanding the guest book, and grabbing every American in the places.
