I don't think Iran has offered that. That is what the Pakastanis are trying to get them to agree to in return for the two week deadline shift.

Not good

2 week stall to regroup, reorganize, hunker down, and restart

We will be in a worse position in 2 weeks than we are now

Yeah I haven't seen where Iran has agreed to that

That should be indispensable condition number one

I hope DJT doesn't fall for this

If they give an extension there needs to be a good faith gesture (opening the strait for the duration, stopping attacks on neighboring countries, etc). I think that's why there won't be a deal, because Iran refuses to do so.

Im sure the govt would, but the irgc probably wont because they are in a death cult

I am not sure Iran has the capability to stop their siloed missile and drone troops from continuing to launch, particularly if the troops don't like who is giving the orders now that all of their bosses have been killed. Kind of like the old Israeli deals with Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Jihad, their ability to abide by the terms of any cease fire are dictated by whichever launch commander is least stable.

Correct. These are irrational, murderous thugs

There is no reasoning with them

Regular Iranians know it and probably wish the IRGc were wiped off the face of the earth

Unfortunately, the wrong people in Iran have the guns

I don't think there should be any deal that doesn't include Iran surrendering the enriched uranium.

Kicking the can down the road, after saying they'd better do something or else, doesn't always help all that much.

Yep. I think you have bureaucrats and politicians who would like to have this thing go away and you have the fanatical people in the IRGC who are true believers in the 12er doctrine and see this as the final struggle to bring back the Mahdi.

Not much they can do in 2 weeks except be concerned that the general population has had enough of the Islamist extremism.

bombing them back to the stone ages should be the very last resort.

what is going to change in 2 weeks? All of a sudden the Iranian hard line leadership are going to be reasonable and negotiate in good faith?!!?!?!

I don't see how this changes anything, other than gives them time to hide more stuff and hunker down.......

I would assume this deadline delay is just for the strikes on Iranian economic and infrastructure targets, not an overall cease fire. So we can keep hitting missile and drone launch/manufacturing sites, the Israelis can keep going with their decapitation strikes, etc. A 2 week general cease fire without giving up Uranium and opening the strait should never be agreed to by the US. We need to keep the pressure on until they capitulate.

General population can't do anything about the regime. They don't have the guns

And, I mean, we're pretty close to the last resort, aren't we? Thinking the people are going to overthrow the regime is nonsense

I'm also assuming that us bombing the bridges and resupply routes we've been targeting now is an effort to not allow resupply and reorganization during any ceasefire or extension.

Blow it all to hell so during any down time they can't reup.

We had bombed over 13000 targets, it's not like we have stopped. I have worked over there, in a few weeks the temperature will be triple digit, the old will die first, then the babies if we knock out the power plants and desalination plant. Will not be a good look for the midterms.

if they open the strait with no fees for a few weeks for ALL ships, then we take the high ground and continue with talks.

Honest question:
Had the regime in Iran shown even a single sign that they are willing to come to acceptable terms? All I've seen are their demands list which don't appear to indicate a sense of what American and Israel find acceptable.

Two weeks of the strait being open would absolutely be worth it. Get some oil flowing and let the global market come up for air for a bit. I doubt Iran will actually agree to that. The strait is pretty much all of their leverage.

No expert over here. But even if they did "open" the strait during a potential 2 week ceasefire… how much will insurance and other costs be to put a ship through that mess with a potential mine popping off at any second and hostile projectiles with a finger on the trigger? I feel like it won't even make much economic sense and the traffic even if "opened" during that period wouldn't be meaningful. But hope I'm wrong. Maritime energy and shipping is not my game.

A sunk ship would not be good for anybody. They know where the mines are.

A ceasefire of any kind would include the strait is open and no more attacks on any of Iran's neighbors.
I seriously doubt the Iranian leaderships ability to rein in the fanatics of the IRGC, a ceasfire if it occurs will fall apart pretty quickly.
