Not good

2 week stall to regroup, reorganize, hunker down, and restart

We will be in a worse position in 2 weeks than we are now

Not much they can do in 2 weeks except be concerned that the general population has had enough of the Islamist extremism.

bombing them back to the stone ages should be the very last resort.

General population can't do anything about the regime. They don't have the guns

And, I mean, we're pretty close to the last resort, aren't we? Thinking the people are going to overthrow the regime is nonsense

We had bombed over 13000 targets, it's not like we have stopped. I have worked over there, in a few weeks the temperature will be triple digit, the old will die first, then the babies if we knock out the power plants and desalination plant. Will not be a good look for the midterms.

if they open the strait with no fees for a few weeks for ALL ships, then we take the high ground and continue with talks.

No expert over here. But even if they did "open" the strait during a potential 2 week ceasefire… how much will insurance and other costs be to put a ship through that mess with a potential mine popping off at any second and hostile projectiles with a finger on the trigger? I feel like it won't even make much economic sense and the traffic even if "opened" during that period wouldn't be meaningful. But hope I'm wrong. Maritime energy and shipping is not my game.

there are no real mine fields in the Straits of Hormuz

because we blew up all their mine layers

there are SUICIDE DRONES being fired from Bandar Abbas which hit the tankers

A ceasefire of any kind would include the strait is open and no more attacks on any of Iran's neighbors.
I seriously doubt the Iranian leaderships ability to rein in the fanatics of the IRGC, a ceasfire if it occurs will fall apart pretty quickly.

Thatd be okay in the sense that trump would hold the cards. Let the irgc spoil a cease fire. Give them the rope to hang themsleves with

my only question is, is the IRGC going to actually stop attacking everywhere in sight? Their leadership has been killed at almost every level. You've got a bunch of fanatic colonels with rockets and drones who don't seem to want to take orders from the actual government.

there is NO GOVERNMENT

there is Moojtaba Khameini in a near coma

and then there is the IRGC and General Vahidi who actually is running the operations

there are no real banks working

there are no businesses working (how can you run a modern company today WITH NO INTERNET FOR A MONTH)

many of their factories have blown up

their bridges are now down

the Islamic Republic economy was a disaster BEFORE last January

which LED to the original protests. now they have over 1.4 million rials to one US Dollar

I hope we take out their Caspian ports before we allow a two week cease fire. They can get arms and other critical supplies from Russia and China via the Caspian where there are no western naval capabilities.

Two conditions for the ceasefire:
Open the Hormuz
Give the Russians the uranium

If not, enjoy the light show.

If that proposal that is amenable to all of the mediators is the one Iran floated yesterday, it is a non-starter and they are about to lose a lot of expensive stuff.

Israel blew up a few Iranian navy ships in the Caspian two weeks ago

I'm a no go on tolls.

But I'm thinking that letting Iran selling insurance policies is a consideration. Let them have some skin in the game of keeping their rogue elements in check.

Funds to be held in escrow by a neutral party and earmarked for rebuilding structures (non military obviously) and released with time restrictions that include a minimum balance.

Any attacks they lose the funds and receive retaliatory attacks 10x of the loss of whatever was hit in the strait.

This doesn't speak like a ceasefire to me.

The folks in this part of the world take pride in living in a tent in the sand. They dig in like a tick. That whole region can dig in like their ancestors.

No matter how many bombs we drop.

The religious regime won't negotiate and will die before giving up anything.

Gotta hope the political regime will run em out……

Bomb the rest of the uranium, open the strait, get out and call it a win…..

Futures markets seem to be trading on the idea that an escalation will not be taking place. For what it's worth.

Ceasefire probably sets in at a specific time. Israel destroyed Iran's largest aluminum manufacturing facility about an hour ago.

Kinda a proof of concept type deal. The Iranian politicians probably want to end this thing and are amenable to a lot of Trumps demands. The IIRG does not want it and is so disjointed in their C&C structure they cannot stop elements from taking pot shots.

I would expect the next messaging to be for the political class to take control of the Iranian Army and turn them on the IIRG.

The revolution may not be the normal civilians of Iran, but the Army v IIRG with the support of the US.
Today, unfortunately, many Americans have good reason to fear that they will be victimized if they are unable to protect themselves. And today, no less than in 1791, the Second Amendment guarantees their right to do so. - Justice Samuel Alito 2022

I'll say this for Trump and the world is figuring it out, you shouldn't take his statements literally. But you should always take him seriously. The Pax Americana will only last as long as we have a president that is willing to use our arsenal. The kowtowing and the bribes of the past just signify weakness.

Goldie Gamari who I love- is having a nervous breakdown claiming this is some head fake.

It's not- it is the EXACT SAME PROCESS we used during the Gaza War to go for short term ceasefires which led to longer term agreements.

this is the way Trump loves to operate- and it worked amazingly to get back all the Israeli hostages

How does the IIRG have more pull? Are there more of them than the political class that has had enough destruction?

Yes. The IRGC is larger and more powerful than the regular army and answered (nominally) for most of its existence to the mullahs, not the (nominally) elected government. Recently they have become a power center unto themselves and have challenged the theocracy for control. Getting the regular army and the people to side against the irgc will be critical for Iran to emerge with a different power structure than they have now.
