Seems like a plausible scenario, but what would lead the police to suggest suicide instead of accident?

I would personally go with accident before suicide if both of them were equally as plausible.

edit to add: There are pictures of the girls on the apartment balcony that night and it appears that the railing is right at or just below chest-height to the girls, so that would indeed make suicide more likely than a trip and fall, unless it was something more nefarious.

They also say ADP released her cell phone and her keys to a non-family member. Doesn't even seem like they attempted to try and get any data from it, which is pretty sus.

It's also being reported that one of the roomates that was there Friday night has vacated the apartment. There could be several reasons for that.

When I was at A&M, a friend of mine had been drinking. He slid on a railing in the parking garage, lost his balance, and fell to his death.

This is most likely something exactly like that.

However, it's odd that these people gave the family conflicting stories, that no one saw anything in a very crowded area, and no one noticed that she was gone? The police need to do their due diligence, but I fear the family might be tortured by the questions the rest of their lives.

Was this at University Tower at the intersection of University Drive and Texas Ave? Someone fell from the top when I was at A&M, maybe it was 1997?

I see there's a new building replacing the old University Tower building.

I remember that. I was in school at the time. I think he survived.

No I don't think he did.
As someone said he went crashing through the glass.

I wonder if we could look through old editions of The Batt and see an article about it.

Found it - 10/16/1996 issue of The Batt. Last name was Zabihi - fell through the atrium plexiglass, landed in a banana tree, and lived.

Good piece of detective work! I believe you are right, everything matches. 1996 sounds right too...

Here's the article from The Batt. Looks like he did survive!
He works for Cisco in Austin.

I knew i was not imagining things. Brings it all back especially him landing in the tree.

yea i was in one of those box looking balconies at that building back in 2012, about 15 stories up. Maybe its cause im tall, but i was scared to even go near the railing there. it didnt feel like much of a safeguard to me, but I was also sober.

There was an earlier story that I remembered hearing about while at A&M. A track guy falling through a Dallas hotel window at a bachelor party way back in the 1980s.

I doubt there are good specific statistics on something like this, but the number of suicides by jumping from a tall building by a high-performing university female student without a history of severe mental illness (schizophrenia) has to be pretty close to zero.

I guess it did happen 2x then, as I wasn't there during 96, and remember the university tower had that area taped off with yellow tape for weeks in 99-00 timeframe. Hope the 2nd person survived as well, I believe it was the 9th floor they fell from.

I lived there in 2001 to 2002 on the highest floor (not including the half floor penthouse). I recall a story floating around about somebody falling and dying but don't remember the specifics. My balcony would have resulted in a fall through the glass roof. Great view of campus though.

I remember that. I lived in the ghetto in 95-96 and that happened after I left. I remember the kid that died in the parking garage too.

speaking of the ghetto I met a girl two doors down two weeks into my freshman year and she had no roommate. We are happily married raising our kids today. Co-ed dorms are awesome.

I am cautious regarding any railing or barrier, not that I have been near one in ages. But when I have been, I always wonder about who installed it, has it been inspected and/or maintained, and since I have no idea about any of that, I don't go near them.

My son was assigned to Walton as a freshman. His assigned roomate was Levi Windle who died before school started. His death was also due to an accident while he was drunk. I can't imagine anything more sad for a parent

I know he was very much into off campus bonfire as was my son. I know the Windle Posts were named for him. I love how Texas A&M strives to honor students that love the school. I love silver taps and muster

Young ladies Mom as on Fox this morning.
Obviously she's a wreck. But she says when she couldn't get in touch with her daughter and was calling APD, her daughters phone (find my iPhone?) was pinging by a creek. Said APD did find the phone in a purse and it doesn't sound like it was near the body.

1) So she lost her phone in the woods by a creek after leaving the stadium? And said ehhh, we'll go look for it tomorrow.

2) This young lady got away from the party, her friends, and her boyfriend... To go throw her phone into the woods, then return to the party, and fall off the balcony--can't pose for a selfie without your phone. Get smashed up and fall off the balcony. Or hides her phone then yeets herself off the balcony

3) Something happened and college kids either panicked and got rid of the phone and purse.
Burdizzo

4) she was drunk and fell out of the window with her purse. Some homeless person thought she was passed out and took her purse, rifles through it, and tosses it near a creek. Was there anything missing from the purse?

Several scenarios here. Suicide sounds highly unlikely, and that makes me circle back to the APD being lazy and/or overworked.

This is a little "hotel windows in Vegas can't be opened for a reason", but college student-geared high rises with balconies never seemed like a good idea to me. The purse thing is curious; my money would be on the homeless dirtbag stealing it. But there are a lot of questions needing to be answered by anyone at that party.
bonfarr
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Would be useful to know where the creek was positioned relative to the apartment. A homeless person isn't going to go out of their way and walk miles to take a found purse to rifle through and dispose of it. If a half mile or less from the apartment I could see that being the case but if it is a greater distance I would be skeptical. A homeless person is going to find the nearest dumpster and get whatever valuables out of it and leave the purse in the trash.

Edit..looking at Google Map Shoal Creek is very close to 21 Rio so is plausible.

Absolutely devastating for her mom. I can't imagine her pain. Not sure I could come back from that. I hope she gets answers.

Here.
Ellis Wyatt
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There is a creek with "woods" (trees, really) right across the street from the stadium. Tens of thousands of people walk right past it before and after every game. Sometimes, the crowd is body to body walking past. I have no idea if that's where she lost her purse, but it would be really easy for that to happen and a person not realize it, especially if they were drinking.

And I think it would be hard to convince someone to help you go look there in the dark, particularly since the surrounding roads are closed in the time surrounding a game. Again, I don't know if that's where this is, but that's very plausible to me.

I feel for the mother, very genuinely. But I suspect she may learn some things about her daughter she doesn't want to know. The phone had put on DND which, according to the mom, she was not supposed to do. There were also indications the daughter had done some other things (ie. Disabling the GPS) that her mother told her not to do, yet the phone was found this way.

Lots of facts that are still very cloudy.
bonfarr
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The Mom says the phone was placed on Do Not Disturb and not sharing location beginning at 6 PM and she was found deceased shortly before 1 AM. Would she have silenced her phone when the game started? If it was pinging at a creek later then someone had to have started sharing location again. I wonder if it was still on Do Not Disturb when found. It would seem odd that a college student would not take calls to their cell and even odder that they would set it to not share location.

I know sometimes when my son is at the game in Kyle, his phone stops sharing location. also when the battery is low (which is probably not the case here since it had juice the next day).

Not if up to -- some shenanigans. And by that only mean something didn't want the parents to know. Silence the phone during game is ordinary, but taking off share location means up to things --- going to places didn't want the mother to see. That's not even that strange -- but it does mean that usually.

I extremely doubt a college kid would DND their phone during a game. Have you been around college kids these days? They are snapchatting non-stop.
bonfarr
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't see anything that leads me to believe the daughter would have purposely concealed her location to hide activities from Mom. The game started around 6:30 and the phone was on DND beginning at 6, why no one knows. The game would have ended around 10:30 I think and they had to travel from the stadium to the apartment. Mom apparently knew she was in Austin for the game and that she was staying at an apartment with people she knew. She was found deceased outside the apartment just before 1 AM. That timeline doesn't allow for her to be going to a place she wouldn't want her Mom to know about

Obviously the police know more than the people speculating in this thread. APD has some good cops, even if city leadership is terrible. Mom just may not want to hear what she's been told.

College students do lots of wild things at football games.
