My understanding from listening to Buzbee is that APD emailed him today about Brianna handing the phone back to the owner.

I get his job is to represent his client to the best of his ability. From what little I know of him he is highly capable but he just strikes me as sleazy.

The only *fact* I think we've heard that *potentially* raises a real question is the time between her death and her friends seeming to realize she was missing. But I also had a night or two or more in West Campus Austin back in the day where I hardly knew what I was doing, yet alone all of the folks in my group.
Yep - HS buddy took 7 years to graduate from t.u. and we partied with him a few times around 22nd & Pearl. Easy to do and generally a fun time except for the time I got my car stereo stolen (so 1991, I know).

RIP Leslie

I first saw him in 1995 at the corner of Braker and North Lamar on his tricycle, protesting against the old Albertsons that was on the NE corner of the intersection.

Yep, I lived up in that area, not too far from North Lamar. I used to see him with his "camping cart" at Albertsons/Randalls before he migrated downtown. Saw WAY TOO MUCH of Leslie.

That explains one question but opens more. Wonder when we'll hear from the other girls. Given mom is on the attack I bet we'll see more stuff come out in the media soon

You should be able to see Buzbee's press conference here. I recommend anyone interested in this case to watch it.

In addition to the friend phone/911 call timeline He brings up some good questions:

- why did police wait more than 6 hours after finding her body to investigate the apartment?
- multiple witnesses that heard fight in the apartment just before the incident, but police did not interview any of them
- police declare the cause of death suicide, but only county medical can declare cause of death, and toxicology, rape kit and autopsy not completed yet

- claims police telling the girls and boyfriend not to talk to mom.

Not sure what he is inferring here at the end of the quote. Was she killed at ground level? Or killed in The apartment and dragged to where she was found? Seems to not align with seemingly undisputed info:

"Whoever's phone she was using was standing right next to her as she went over the balcony - if she went over the balcony."

That's some serious mess right there, thanks for posting. I figure most law enforcement forces, particularly in big cities, have a great many incompetent people when it comes to anything other than parking tickets and simple stuff.

I haven't followed, or bothered to check out, any of the timelines but did wonder why APD was so quick to say it was a suicide. I'd figure the best response would be that it was still under investigation.

I don't think this is really a legitimate point by Buzbee.

Suicide, like "homicide" is a manner of death (as opposed to "cause of death") and it is entirely within the purview of the police to work towards assisting in that determination.

Do the police check the official box on the form that goes into the vital records? No. Do they play a role in the determination? Certainly.

We obviously don't know what the police have told anyone privately, but I don't recall hearing or seeing Austin Police actually say the "case was closed" or that they were somehow overriding the role of the medical examiner.

I don't know if Austin PD regrets they held the press conference or not. Buzbee is raising a stink that they went public with information and their opinion, but Austin PD obviously did that only after and because the Mom had been making this a national news story.

I haven't watched Buzbees PC. I didn't watch the Austin PD PC.

The cops aren't stupid. This is not their first rodeo. Buzbee isn't stupid either. Quite the contrary. They (like moist on this board) know words have very specific meaning. I'm confident in conversations with Mom, even at a very early stage, APD was very careful with the exact words that were used.

I could easily see the following... HYPOTHETICAL!!! Mom says, "They said my baby killed herself and jumped off that balcony!". What an APD detective it spokesperson actually said, "Preliminary evidence suggests that she died as a result of a fall from substantial height, nd at this time we do not suspect foul play or involvement by anyone else."

We all know those are two radically different statements, that have a layman's effect of saying the same thing.

The cops are very acute to tell the kids to not talk to Mom (or anyone else) at this point. I think we all know those kids would all be wise to retain counsel, and all statements need to be in writing thru council. The cops are going to piece together a detailed timeline and their going to get everyone's text messages, gps locations, and social media footprints for the day.

Buzbee on the other hand wants them talking. It's good for him. Even small variations in the way a story is told have HUGE ramifications for him. He can use that to build a case that the story is changing over time.

If the phone fight with the boyfriend is accurate (call ends 2 minutes before 911 is called from the ground), this is likely what folks heard.

Have to disagree with you on this. Compared to Buzbee, most cops are stupid. Especially in the era of DEI.

Look at the police chief, her linked in says she got a bachelors degree in organizational leadership 25 years after she started the force. I'd dare to say her academic transcript would be incomparable to Buzbee. And she's the chief. What do you think the detective scored on the SAT or LSAT compared to Buzbee?

Was this at University Tower at the intersection of University Drive and Texas Ave? Someone fell from the top when I was at A&M, maybe it was 1997?

I see there's a new building replacing the old University Tower building.

It was the Southside garage on campus.

There was a young man from Crocker hall that went off the NS parking garage around that time, between the garage and the physical plant.

Yes I also believe someone fell at University Tower in the late 90s and went through the glass roof into the pool area.

Friends of the family of university towers incident. Wheelchair bound and an amazing supportive family so living a wonderful life. Have to say when University Towers came down I wasn't sad after knowing the impact of that fall.

Since we're all guessing I'll take a stab.

Borrows friends phone after the rest of the group leaves to go back out for the night. She talks to her boyfriend about whatever on the phone and they're arguing. She's presumably still obligated from the tailgate. Gets off the phone upset and hands it back to her friend. Climbs up on the railing or onto a table and the friend freaks out and starts screaming at her. Friend tries to grab her to stop her so she's yelling to get off her as someone else heard. Friend loses the battle and she goes over.

Nothing malicious from anyone involved but everything matches the reports.

The cheif of APD is not out doing the investigation….she just relaying info that is being gathered. APD detectives and outside agencies are working on this case. Many with college degrees in their fields of expertise. Run of the mill street cops are not doing this investigation at this point.

If could very well have been a suicide. However, the APD's has appeared to jump to a conclusion in the first few hours without any real investigation. As a parent, I think the police owe it to the family to fully investigate all possibilities prior to closing case files, having a press conference, and hanging the "Mission Accomplished" banner.

Yeah, I feel weird about speculating too much on threads like this, knowing who might read it. Even though we're all going to be curious and inevitably try to relate it to whatever messed up experiences we might have had in our youths.

It does make me think of some experiences where there just had to be some luck involved in surviving with nobody getting hurt. Or seriously hurt.

The APD said they have the video from the apartment. Wouldnt that mean they could also see her fall from the balcony? They never came out and said that specifically but that is my guess.

Although it appears as if they are labeling it a suicide because she wrote a suicide note a few days before dying, made suicidal comments to friends the day she died, and was self harming herself the day she died. Im willing to bet the cops have text records of her texting suicidal comments to friends the day she passed away.

There is also that last call to the boyfriend -- unless he told her to do it `or I don't care if you do' which is nuts to even think -- what you may likely learn is something horrifying is they had an apparently short argument, and she either threatened or just did it aftreward and he will be able to say what the tone was.
