If this is true and Trump is not trolling, then BAD TRUMP.

Here is what he should do instead.

1. Take all the tariff money and put it towards the federal debt. It won't be significant but it will show everyone that he is serious about the debt.
2. If he doesn't want to do it and do something populist instead, send the money to people who are not wealthy and struggling, not to wealthy folks like most of us here. I would like Homeless Steve to get $2000 instead of Trump sending me a check for example.

Its an altogether stupid idea (just like tariffs). But if he DOES do it, your idea above is just more wealth redistribution - no thanks.

I can guarantee you tariffs are costing those of us that are more well off more than those that aren't - after all it is somewhat directly tied to how much you spend.

Any proof Tarrifs have increased consumer prices?

No proof. But I think they will at some point. Let's see if I am right. I am okay with some price rise if we can get jobs back.

Let's say something from China cost $100. A US made product would cost $110, so people prefer the Chinese one though it is of inferior quality (who cares about quality anymore). Trump applies 25% tariff so Chinese product is $125. The US company feels that $110 is too low and they can get away with $120 as it is still lower than $125 for Chinese made. So they jack up the prices. This is just 1 scenario, there are many others.

By and large, those wealthy paying taxes also produce far more for the economy (and the government) on a per person basis than they consume. Most "tax payers" are net tax recipients from the government. Only about the top 10-20-% of us are carrying the load.

Give me examples.

That is what Reagan did with his brain-dead idea of trickle down economics.

You realize that was just the Democrat name for market economics, right? Like... how markets work, as if it was something Reagan came up with...

Trickle down is not market economics.
It is wealth distribution to favor the wealthy. They got richer and everyone else got poor because they prevented anything from trickling down.

Trickledown has been proven effective over and over and over again.

How do I know? Experience buddy. Good ol fashion HMIC experience.

You raise my taxes, I cut my spending both personally and in my businesses. Limit or pause raises, pause investments, pause everything.

Any fiscal conservative with skin in the game and in charge of things will behave in this manner.

To call Reagan's economic policy "brain dead" is sort of ironic, hypocritic, lacking self-awareness.

Trump could send Americans $2k tariff checks: How to invest it
https://finance.yahoo.com/video/trump-could-send-americans-2k-173020363.html

Quote:

US President Trump has floated giving American taxpayers an up to $2,000 check, in a payment "almost like a dividend" funded by tariffs.

PNC Asset Management Group chief investment officer Amanda Agati and Yahoo Finance Senior Reporters Brooke DiPalma and Ines Ferr discuss the potential Trump check.

Good Trump.

its about midterms. Conservatives and right/center indys are going to vote red regardless, dems looking for an excuse to pull red can likely be bought off with a check. Personally I'd rather we apply the funds to the debt, but if it anyway keeps the balance of both houses securely red then I am all for it

Agree. Victory is what matters at this point. First term was sabotaged by Pelosi coming in in 2018. Let's have a full four years this time. But if this is the goal, would giving it in 2026 closer to time make more sense or no?

Such a stupid and irrelevant question but I know you MAGA loyalists love you some tariffs and like to ask that question even when it is not pertinent.

So I'll answer you simply: yes. I have receipts. I have emails telling me how much more I have to pay because of tariffs or I will not receive goods already ordered and paid for previously. I also have emails and online notices telling me how certain costs will go up on future purchases because of tariffs.

I'm sure that won't be good enough for you and well I really don't care. Your question is irrelevant - I didn't even make any claim about how much prices might have gone up. You're just another MAGA sheep doing the same old crap.

Are you serious? It's been posted on here hundreds of times how the distribution of tax payers skews the burden very heavily to the wealthy. The data is very clear, the last few years the top 1% of income earners have paid roughly 40% of total income taxes for example. The bottom 50% pay about 2% with a great fraction of those being net positive recipients after credits and such.

Here and there due to capita ll gains taxes and credits against losses a wealthy person might net out with relatively low taxes but overall, if they're making money in the USA they're paying capita gains and mostly the top marginal rate minus anything their accountant and lawyer can get credit against. Spite the wealthy for their undue influence over politics, but they real do by far pay the most in taxes as a group. The aiRS data on that is indesputable

To be fair BigRob, few Rs meet your standard of conservatism.

Outside of hating CEOs, disregarding company policies on insider trading, and not buying their wife a car for her cause Trump temporarily spooked the market, then I really have no concept on where they actually stand.

Oh, they hate H1_bs too.

Back to the OP, I think Trump said this comment, at least Karoline Leavitt just referenced as similar comment, in regards to these checks as being in response to the Rs cutting the ACA stipends from COVID.

Sending out checks is vote buying and I am not a fan, but there is at least a bit of rationale behind it not simply Trump making it rain.

Seems contradictory.

How so?

Homeless Steve needs money to eat and put a roof over his head.

I am well past that (never was in that situation). I am saving for retirement. Poor Steve has no chance of a good retirement as he will be panhandling at 80.

The vast majority of homeless are insane, drug addicts, and/or want to be homeless. They would blow that money on booze and drugs. Guaranteed.

The economic ROI from these checks is way more impactful giving it to people on this board.

It's not even debatable.

Edit: I think the checks are stupid, period. But at least it would give me most of the $2,500 Obama promised me back in 2010 (not counting for inflation).

Exactly

Hell, I work for a company that recently said that we'll be charging our customers another almost 2billion due to idiotic tariffs.

Stupid and irrelevant because you have a single anecdote of how it affects you?

What you describe is a change in market dynamics specific to you. There is no evidence that tariffs has resulted in a broad tax on everyday Americans.
