If we can take tariff revenue and distribute it back out to taxpayers who will buy more tariffed goods generating more revenue and more handouts!

Where's the two teas guy when you need him!

If Trump wants to consider this, now is not the time. Save if for a rainy day between now and November 2026.

There's too much other winning to be had right now.

A poor attempt at compensating for a bad idea.

What was the bad idea?

Why was it bad?

Sorry that my post was pretty vague.

I am not in favor of tariffs.

The world would be a better place with free trade.

So would world peace, governments that have no corruption, etc.

I have no problem with Trump giving away tax rebates for whatever reason. If he collects enough money in tariffs to pay for this, than I'm ok with it.

I'm already taxed enough.

Our elected officials need to learn to balance the budget without playing games with my spending habits.

If this is true and Trump is not trolling, then BAD TRUMP.

Here is what he should do instead.

1. Take all the tariff money and put it towards the federal debt. It won't be significant but it will show everyone that he is serious about the debt.
2. If he doesn't want to do it and do something populist instead, send the money to people who are not wealthy and struggling, not to wealthy folks like most of us here. I would like Homeless Steve to get $2000 instead of Trump sending me a check for example.

The American habit of not saving and blowing up any spare cash they get their hands on needs to be curbed and curtailed.

Trump could send Americans $2k tariff checks: How to invest it
https://finance.yahoo.com/video/trump-could-send-americans-2k-173020363.html

Quote:

US President Trump has floated giving American taxpayers an up to $2,000 check, in a payment "almost like a dividend" funded by tariffs.

PNC Asset Management Group chief investment officer Amanda Agati and Yahoo Finance Senior Reporters Brooke DiPalma and Ines Ferr discuss the potential Trump check.

I was being sarcastic.

I don't need any tariff dividend but if the job market remains sketchy and healthcare costs are to be controlled, a little stimulus doesn't give me heartburn.

I was poking fun at the poor math most are capable of.

Pay down the debt, work on the infrastructure. That would be my use of funds.

Money is fungible or in the US just made up. How do we know these are really tariff dividends?

I know.

But think about this. If the entire country spends and spends, we have an economy that is moving and booming. But if YOU save and spend wisely, you are the smart one in a sea of dunderheads. So when you get to 60, you have many millions stashed away for a comfortable retirement while your spend-thrift friends are all struggling and begging each other for money.

Yes I'll have more money saved, but when the spendthrifts have caused a ton of demand with their over-spending, and the government has caused in a ton of inflation with giveaways like this, all I will actually have is a whole lot of worthless dollars. The idiots not saving can and will hurt me no matter what I do.

Was the "money machine went BRRRRR" a reference to printing more money, a handout or both?

I apologize that I don't remember.

"Brrrrr" in fact was most used in context of buying votes, Zuckbucks, that kind of thing, in 2020.

It also means fire up the printing press in many cases.

Sorry, wasn't clear. No, as in printing ballots. Manufacturing votes. But it has been used for the currency type too in the past so that's valid.

It doesn't help that most R's are just a half-tad to the right of the Dems, fiscally.

Yet we keep electing them and wondering "Why don't they fix things?".

Inflation always has been and always will be a monetary phenomenon.

Tariffs are not that.

Tariffs do not cause systemwide inflation, only shifting the prices of some things up, and the prices of some things down.

Maybe not systemwide but it does cause prices to increase for a significant portion of purchased goods and possibly services.

Given our market, and what money is moving where in mass, it also probably keeps the rents from climbing as fast as they would otherwise and gasoline prices cheaper.

If not those trade-off, there have to be similar trade-offs somewhere. That's not opinion, it the maths.

It is better to send it directly to the people, then for some future democrat to send it to a NGO, which will then kick it back to the DNC.
